Eighth Paragon

Eighth Paragon, also called Old Eighth, is one of the Vast Expanse School’s ruling 9-Essences experts. Political loyalty to Jin Yunshan draws him into the ambush against Meng Hao, and his attempt to flee after the Sixth Paragon’s defeat gives Meng Hao time to plant the Eight Demon Sealing Hexes that kill him.

Biography

Necropolis expedition

Old Eighth joins the Sect Leader’s party entering Patriarch Vast Expanse’s necropolis. In the Ghost City he distrusts Meng Hao but benefits from Meng Hao’s Dao eye and control over the surrounding ghosts. Unlike the Sixth Paragon, he initially avoids overt provocation and bows when Meng Hao’s demonstrated authority makes a direct challenge unwise. (Chapters 1423–1427)

That caution is political rather than loyal. On the bridge to the first land mass, Eighth joins a coordinated betrayal: Sha Jiudong restrains the Sect Leader, Jin Yunshan attacks from behind, and Sixth and Eighth unleash their Essences against Meng Hao. The attack seeks to remove Meng Hao before his inheritance and growing prestige overturn the balance among the Nine Sects. Meng Hao survives by entering the abyss beneath the bridge. (Chapter 1428)

Flight from Meng Hao

When Meng Hao returns with the power to seal the Sixth Paragon into a painting, Old Eighth understands that ordinary 9-Essences resistance is no longer enough. He burns life force and longevity to produce extreme speed, abandoning the battlefield and calling Jin Yunshan through a jade slip. The cost buys distance but progressively damages his future. Meng Hao pursues without immediately striking the final blow. During the chase he places one Demon Sealing Hex after another inside Eighth’s body. Old Eighth reaches the Transcendence Dais and the other Paragons attempt to intervene, believing proximity to Jin Yunshan can restore safety. Meng Hao then activates all eight planted Hexes together. The combined internal detonation kills Old Eighth before the gathered rulers, proving that his escape route had become the mechanism of execution. (Chapters 1433–1434)

Appearance and personality

The source emphasizes Old Eighth’s status and reactions more than detailed physical features. He is proud but more politically cautious than the Sixth Paragon. That restraint collapses under existential threat: once he sees Meng Hao wield Daosource-like sealing, he burns lifespan, calls for rescue, and abandons dignity to survive.

Nine-Essences cultivation

Old Eighth is a full 9-Essences Paragon capable of contributing to attacks that threaten the Vast Expanse School’s strongest experts. His Essences are not individually named in the supplied scenes, so their specific natural laws and mechanics remain unspecified.

Coordinated Essence assault

He can combine multiple Essence divine abilities with the Sixth Paragon while stronger allies constrain the target’s support. The bridge ambush demonstrates planned timing and Paragon-level destructive force, but it fails to guarantee a kill when Meng Hao chooses the abyss.
