Vast Expanse School Sect Leader

The Vast Expanse School Sect Leader is the peak 9-Essences cultivator who commands the Vast Expanse School and its nine sects. He is a cautious strategist whose overriding goal is to reach Transcendence through Patriarch Vast Expanse's necropolis.

Biography

Ninth Paragon and institutional compromise

The Sect Leader is introduced as the hidden authority whose divine sense inspects Meng Hao's apparently dead body. Suspicious that Meng Hao's soul might still exist, he prepares the Soulseal Formation before bringing in Paragon Heaven-Eye's soul. Although Meng Hao defeats that soul and assumes the Ninth Paragon's identity, the Sect Leader accepts the result because Meng Hao's Dao eye and strength remain useful to the school's larger plan. Acceptance is calculated rather than trusting. The Sect Leader recognizes that destroying the unexpected victor may cost the school the Dao eye needed for Patriarch Vast Expanse's necropolis. He therefore converts a failed possession plan into a new institutional role while continuing to watch Meng Hao as both asset and danger. (Chapters 1417–1418)

He leads the school's expeditions into Patriarch Vast Expanse's necropolis. His prudence frequently contrasts with the rivalries among the other Paragons: he restrains open conflict when it threatens the expedition and continually evaluates whether Meng Hao is an ally, danger, or indispensable guide.

That strategy requires balancing nine sects and several Potentates who can challenge one another but cannot reach the ninth land mass alone. The Sect Leader intervenes when rivalry endangers the shared objective and accepts temporary compromises that preserve another expedition. His authority coordinates peers; it does not let him command every peak Nine-Essences expert as a subordinate.

Failed Transcendence and service

When Meng Hao returns to the necropolis to absorb the Ninth Hex, the Sect Leader and the other Paragons join him. He helps resist Allheaven's descent, crosses the necropolis under Meng Hao's protection, and finally reaches the ninth land mass. (Chapter 1527) (Chapter 1531)

The Sect Leader's own attempt to Transcend is broken by Allheaven, but he survives to witness Meng Hao succeed. Recognizing the absolute difference between them, he bows to the new Transcendor and offers the Vast Expanse School's service. (Chapter 1532) (Chapter 1538)

The failed attempt makes his lifelong limitation explicit. Peak Nine-Essences, formations, and necropolis access can bring him to the threshold, but Allheaven can still interrupt the crossing. Bowing to Meng Hao is therefore both submission and an accurate recognition that the school's objective has finally been achieved by someone else. (Chapters 1532–1538)

He later mobilizes the school for Meng Hao's war of vengeance and participates in the assault on the Aeon Span. During Meng Hao's reconstruction of the Mountain and Sea Realm, he and the other Vast Expanse cultivators watch the creation of new Mountains and Seas in awe. (Chapter 1545) (Chapter 1555)

Appearance and personality

His true body is a tall old man with long white hair. He is calculating and suspicious without being needlessly reckless, and he can abandon hostility when cooperation better serves the school's hope of Transcendence.

He values institutional continuity over personal pride. This makes him capable of using dangerous soul plans, but also of accepting their unexpected outcome, protecting expeditions from internal feuds, and serving a successful Transcendent after his own failure.

The Sect Leader stands among Planet Vast Expanse's Potentates and can pressure other Paragons. This is the summit below Transcendence, not a guarantee of crossing it; Allheaven breaks his attempt. (Chapters 1413–1418 and 1532–1538)

Divine sense

His spiritual perception can inspect an apparently dead body and terrify lesser Nine-Essences cultivators. Meng Hao's concealed surviving soul still escapes certainty, defining the sense as extremely powerful rather than infallible. (Chapters 1417–1418)

Soulseal Formation

He prepares a formation to suppress a possible resident soul while implanting Paragon Heaven-Eye. Meng Hao defeats the incoming soul, showing that formation, target condition, and soul strength determine the result. (Chapters 1417–1418)

Large formations and command

He coordinates teleportation, necropolis entry, multi-Paragon movement, and later wartime mobilization. These feats depend on school infrastructure and cooperating experts rather than personal cultivation alone. (Chapters 1527–1555)

Strategic leadership

His principal skill is preserving a shared Transcendence project across sect rivalries. He changes policy when evidence changes, which lets the school survive Meng Hao's rise and later mobilize under him.
