Yoo Eun-hye

Yoo Eun-hye is the Awakened woman known as the Lightning Queen. Recruited by Randalph Brigsiel while her uncontrolled electricity makes her a danger to everyone nearby, she develops into a sword-wielding lightning specialist, the experienced administrator behind Korea's young king, and one half of humanity's strongest Awakened partnership with Edward Windsor.

Biography

From lightning rod to Devil Hunter

Yoo begins as a self-described “human lightning rod” whose Awakening has brought fear instead of freedom. The spirit of lightning protected her after a near-fatal strike, but the resulting passive current wanders through her body and discharges without permission; even standing near Lee Ji-hye burns the latter's hair. Her relatives treat her as a burden, and Yoo has internalized that judgment despite unusually high intelligence and magic potential. Randalph remembers the Lightning Queen from another future, recognizes the value hidden inside the faulty power, and recruits her into Devil Hunters. (Chapters 17–20)

Randalph does not begin with a sophisticated spell. He places a sword in Yoo's hand and makes her face a kobold so that her weak strength, agility, and stamina cannot remain excuses. She panics, but continues fighting until she wins; the victory breaks through her reflexive belief that she is useless, and she asks to keep training. Ten days of dungeon combat make her more confident, aggressive, and physically capable, while Randalph begins searching for lightning knowledge that can turn her dangerous passive into a controlled weapon. (Chapters 17–24)

Learning to direct the current

Randalph studies the Lightning God Technique partly so he can understand Yoo's condition. In a valley saturated with lightning residue, her Electric Current interacts with the surrounding energy and spreads across a wide area. He reads the random paths inside her body, matches their wavelength, and corrects the flow into a cycle. Yoo learns to regulate it like a faucet rather than merely endure it, and after three weeks her Electric Current rises from normal to rare grade while her physical and magical statistics improve sharply. The change also frees her socially: once electricity stops leaking from her body, she becomes notably more direct and open. (Chapters 27–42 and 57–61)

Control is an ongoing discipline rather than a complete cure. Randalph later sends current through Yoo's abdomen, hand, and sword to teach her to carry lightning through a weapon; an interruption makes the current run wild, although the lightning spirit's protection prevents a serious injury. He acknowledges much later that he corrected the electricity's flow without entirely resolving her twisted magic power. Yoo nevertheless keeps training under his harsh standards, obeys his tactical decisions even when excluded from a monster wave, and converts the unstable phenomenon that isolated her into the foundation of the Lightning Queen. Edward, Devil Hunters, and the Saviour

When Randalph is absent, Yoo and Edward become the core of the Devil Hunters' dungeon advance. Yoo fights with a lightning-covered sword, coordinates routes and targets, and scolds Edward for reckless attacks. Having once nursed him after a severe injury, she becomes his benefactor and “Noona”; his devotion to her helps bind him to the team, while her protective concern gradually resembles that of an older sister or mother. Their coordination helps the party reach higher floors, although an angel battle leaves Yoo bloodied and exhausted and a high-ranking enemy later proves able to overwhelm both the human vanguard and Edward. Randalph's apparent death hits Yoo harder than ordinary command loss: she mourns until she is visibly thinner, then embraces him when he returns and makes him promise not to vanish again. She also builds a life beyond raids, becoming successful enough to own a café and building, but combat remains central. During the Saviour's campaigns, she combines electricity with Lee Ji-hye's water attack to drop thirty orcs, confronts the masked Saviour, and accepts advanced-training tickets for herself and Edward. Randalph sees the pair as the future focal point of humanity, while Yoo reads the Saviour's willingness to extend a hand as the reason desperate survivors follow him—the same reason she once followed Randalph. Advanced training and independent command

Yoo and Edward enter the advanced training room and cannot leave until they clear it. Only two weeks pass outside, but they endure more than a thousand days of training and return able to kill advanced creatures individually. Their absence has badly weakened Heaven's Will's operations, so their return immediately restores a human frontline. The ordeal breaks their former limits without making them invincible: against a high-class creature, Yoo judges that she can only buy time, and she and Edward still rely on speed, scouting, and support rather than treating every opponent as something they can overpower. (Chapters 175–180)

Her authority soon extends beyond a raid party. After hundreds die capturing a vampire, Yoo leads the briefing about a demon searching for the Saintess, presses other leaders to disclose what they know, and refuses to let fear of political conflict justify surrendering human agency. She is prepared to detain dissenters until the immediate danger is resolved, and Chrisley reports that Yoo and Heaven's Will have begun making judgments outside Randalph's control. The girin later names Yoo and Edward among the candidates to lead humanity; the Saintess powers in this crisis belong to Kim Yura and Kim Min-ji, while Yoo's contribution is investigation, coordination, and command. Hope at Greenwich Observatory

Yoo proves herself the strongest among the assembled international Awakened and is placed in command of the team carrying Hope, humanity's irreplaceable anti-demon bomb, into Greenwich Observatory. She preserves the mission through a shattered war zone by changing routes, protecting vital healers, and preparing Edward to inherit command if she dies. Even top Awakened suffer enormous losses, and a glimpse of Upa Bullenon makes the scale of their weakness plain. Yoo resists detonating Hope merely to kill one grand duke, repeatedly steadies the survivors, and keeps the weapon moving toward the target for which it was designed. (Chapters 205–216)

At the observatory she discovers that the Saviour and Randalph are the same person—and that he is a demon who cultivated human power for his own war. Yoo cannot defeat him, even with Edward, so she bargains for her surviving team and gives him the puzzle pieces she and Edward recovered from training. She ultimately accepts the grim overlap between his goal and humanity's survival and allows Hope to be placed where it can destroy the other demon armies. This is trust with open eyes rather than ignorance: she challenges his killings, questions his motives, and concludes that humanity has no stronger available path through the competing demons and angels. After Hope is installed, Yoo turns back to determine whether Randalph is truly the hope she has chosen. Edward tries to stop what he sees as suicidal loyalty, and their clash damages her sword, but she returns alone and finds Randalph collapsed after an ambush. She carries him toward safety, borrows Wrath and the Emperor's Sword when shadow creatures block the route, and exhausts herself defending him; the experience creates Sword Flow and Trance, but leaves her helpless until Yihi finds them. Randalph restores her damaged magical origin and sends her away before the explosion. From a safe distance, Yoo identifies him as humanity's last hope while admitting that his nature and her own future remain unresolved. (Chapters 222–225)

Korea's decision-maker and postwar hunter

When Camael and the remaining angels threaten the survivors, Edward holds the title of king but Yoo effectively manages Korea. She argues that humans should intercept the angels before civilians become the battlefield, frames the decision as a fight for humanity's time to rebuild, and compels the remaining governments to participate. Chrisley's plan depends on Yoo mobilizing those forces, and her judgment preserves three hundred of an initial thousand Awakened through a month-long campaign. Refusing to relax when others think the hunt is over, she locates the last angel hidden in Pandemonium's corpse and orders its destruction, stripping Camael of the final life sustaining his invincibility. (Chapters 232–233)

Three years after the war, Yoo is alive and remains an active Heaven's Will dungeon hunter. She and Edward have conquered several dungeons and are making their eighth attempt on the enlarged Korean dungeon, reaching its fifty-fourth floor while checking whether it connects to the demonic door in the sky. Their old pattern persists: Edward guards her back and objects to risks, while Yoo teases him and keeps looking beyond the stated mission. Heaven's Will redistributes treasure and supplies dungeon cores for energy development, so her latest role joins reconnaissance and defense with the reconstruction of human society. (Chapter 242)

Appearance and personality

Yoo is introduced as a young woman with a bob cut and mischievous eyes, young enough to be mistaken for a student. Later descriptions emphasize a sporty, youthful appearance even after she has become one of the most prominent Awakened; at a social gathering she wears a red dress. Her early shame and hesitation give way to playful confidence, blunt speech, and a reputation as an “iron-wall” woman who stays composed under pressure. (Chapters 17–20, 61, 110, and 182)

Her defining trait is protective responsibility. Yoo believes strength exists to protect the weak and resist injustice, prepares successors rather than assuming she will survive, and can move frightened groups through arguments grounded in survival rather than glory. That conscience does not make her naive: she compromises with ugly realities, threatens obstructionist leaders, and accepts a demon's help when every available alternative is worse. Her persistent trust in Randalph is deeply personal, but she repeatedly tests it against humanity's interests instead of surrendering command to him. Abilities and powers

Lightning spirit and Electric Current

Surviving a lightning strike between life and death gives Yoo the protection of a lightning spirit. Her earliest skills are Lightning Bolt and Electric Current, but Electric Current initially makes her body a passive lightning rod: electricity wanders unpredictably and spills into nearby people. Randalph's wavelength correction establishes a circulating path, and Yoo learns conscious output control. The spirit's blessing also gives her unusual tolerance when her internal current becomes unstable, though the underlying distortion of her magic is never described as completely repaired. (Chapters 17–20, 27–42, 112, and 143)

Lightning sword techniques

Yoo's demonstrated weapon is a sword. She learns to guide current from her core through her arm and blade, later manifesting Lightning Sword at unique grade. She can cover a sword in electricity, move with lightning-like speed, and discharge lightning at range; one rare-grade technique uses a finger-gun posture to sweep otherwise difficult-to-see insects. By Chapter 148, her listed combat skills include Lightning Sword, Electronic Shock, and passive Enhanced Strength, supported by balanced physical growth far beyond her fragile starting state. Electronic Shock is particularly effective when an ally supplies a conductive medium. Against an orc formation, Lee Ji-hye spreads water as droplets and Yoo drives electricity through them, penetrating multiple bodies and collapsing thirty enemies at once. Her output is finite: sustained ranged attacks leave her sweating and tired, elite demons can wound or overwhelm her, and even after advanced training she can only delay a high-class creature. Lightning is therefore a flexible battlefield property, not an answer to every difference in rank. (Chapters 84–86, 104–108, 148–151, and 178–180)

Sword Flow and Trance

While rescuing Randalph at Greenwich, Yoo temporarily uses Wrath and the Emperor's Sword after her own weapon is damaged. The ego swords accept her and guide unfamiliar dual-sword movements, producing Sword Flow, which improves her sensitivity to their direction, and Trance, which raises her statistics when she enters a focused combat state. These skills emerge in a singular emergency with borrowed weapons; the corpus does not establish that she keeps either sword afterward or routinely fights as a dual wielder. (Chapters 222–224)

Tactical and political leadership

Yoo's most consequential capability is judgment under attrition. She selects safer routes, identifies irreplaceable support personnel, sets succession plans, coordinates multi-attribute attacks, and keeps international teams moving when direct victory is impossible. As Korea's practical decision-maker, she translates that raid leadership into coalition strategy and public persuasion. Her authority can mobilize governments and preserve hundreds of Awakened, but it is social and tactical rather than supernatural: the holy healing and Saintess abilities used around her belong to Kim Yura and Kim Min-ji. • Randalph Brigsiel: Recruiter, teacher, captain, and the demon behind the Saviour. Yoo's trust grows from his rescue of her potential, survives his disappearances, and becomes a deliberate alliance after she learns his nature, although she continues to question his motives and choices.
• Edward Windsor: Yoo's former patient, devoted “younger brother,” closest combat partner, and eventual king. She prepares him to succeed her; he guards her life and challenges her whenever loyalty to Randalph becomes dangerously self-sacrificing.
• Lee Ji-hye: An early victim of Yoo's uncontrolled current who becomes a close teammate and tactical partner. Lee's water and Yoo's electricity form one of Yoo's clearest large-area combination attacks.
• Kim Yong-woo: Heaven's Will's guild master and Yoo's frequent superior. Their teasing familiarity coexists with serious trust: he puts her in command of the Hope team, while she supplies the field authority and later practical administration that Korea needs.
• Chrisley: A source of concealed information during the Saintess crisis and later a strategic ally. Yoo resists Chrisley's secrecy when human autonomy is at stake, but Chrisley also relies on Yoo to mobilize humanity against Camael's angels.
• Kim Yura and Kim Min-ji: The Saintesses and healers whose survival Yoo prioritizes during the Hope mission. They continue supporting Yoo and Edward's dungeon expeditions after the war.

Items

Yoo repeatedly uses ordinary or unnamed swords, including a lightning-conducting sword, but no personal weapon in her scoped inventory has a canonical item entry. Wrath and the Emperor's Sword accept her only temporarily during Randalph's rescue and remain his weapons rather than hers.
