Vilari

Vilari is a Revenant mentalist, commander of the Einherjar, and one of Zac Atwood's first-generation undead children. Created from the body of the mentalist who nearly killed Zac in the Tower of Eternity, she develops an independent identity around emotional Dao, soul cultivation, and service to the Atwood Empire. Her path ultimately connects the Crown of Despair, the Anima Court, and the dangerous legacy of the Beseechment Pavilion.

Biography

Awakening and the Crown of Despair

Zac secretly raises Vilari while building the Einherjar, intending the Revenant force to protect Earth when he is away. Her predecessor's latent bloodline forces her newborn soul to expand with exceptional speed and considerable pain, and the resulting power is difficult to control. Zac restores her ruined eyes with Creation, teaches her the Nine Reincarnations Manual, and occasionally takes her outside the nursery to distract her from the ordeal. Those outings help turn a creator's responsibility into a filial bond that Vilari later remembers among her happiest early experiences. (Chapters 667, 671, and 1315)

By the time she formally enters Zac's service, Vilari has formed a Dao Fragment while still F-grade and commands the Einherjar, yet she refuses to rush her evolution at the expense of her soul foundation. She accepts the dangerous Crown of Despair trial because she wants the strength to assist Zac, survives nearly two months within it, and becomes an in-name disciple of Ralz Calzood. Rather than clinging to Zac's manual, she chooses her new master's lower-ceiling but better-suited soul method, a practical decision that stabilizes her power and gives her an independent cultivation road. Commander of the hidden army

Vilari's first off-world journey places her beside Zac as attendant, adviser, and discreet protector in Twilight Harbor. She screens suspicious contacts through their emotional fluctuations, destroys an unsolicited communication crystal, and helps assemble supplies for both the living and undead forces. When the Twilight Ascent would require a premature breakthrough, she declines entry rather than damage her foundation; she instead carries resources home and assumes responsibility for the Einherjar. Her stated hope that Earth's living and dead may eventually integrate also gives her command a political purpose beyond simple obedience. (Chapters 684, 688, and 697)

Her concealed command becomes public authority during the Ensolus conflict and the Kan'Tanu war. Vilari destroys a peak E-grade spirit with Woeful Dejection, resists Ghost Kings who threaten the Nexus Hub, and later serves as a Fourth-Degree Captain whose designation lets the Atwood forces avoid outside command. She wins a second Anima Court seal by personally defeating another Soultaker, then enters seclusion at Remembrance Plaza and emerges as a Mentalist Hegemon. The breakthrough makes her one of the empire's most dangerous battlefield leaders, but it also increases her responsibility for armies whose minds she can influence on a vast scale. The bell and the road to Anima

An Epiclesis Bell's attack on the Acheron Company turns Vilari's affinity for emotion into a direct vulnerability. She holds back mass suicide through a domain of sloth and nihilism, but the bell recognizes her inheritance and imparts Embers of Seven Sensations. When the entity returns, Vilari decides not to drag Zac into unfinished karma: she uses the Emancipation Eye against three reincarnators, transfers her soul with Soulshift, and enters the bell willingly to divert it from the Atwood forces. The choice saves her companions while leaving her trapped with a being that tries to reshape her convictions. (Chapters 1129–1130 and 1135–1136)

Zac eventually breaks the bell and extracts Vilari, but she awakens with Jalach's surviving influence still tied to her fate. Rather than treating herself only as a victim, she studies what she learned in captivity, confronts Qriz'Ul mental defenses, and enters the Left Imperial Expanse to gather seven emotional idols and find the Pasho'Har Bell. Her encounter with the apparently dead Thea Marshall shows the judgment this independence has produced: Vilari tests Thea, hears her warning, accepts the message for Zac, and continues toward Anima Court. By her latest direct scene, visions and the completed idol set are guiding her through the Daynight Dreamer while she remains wary of Jalach's designs. Appearance and personality

Vilari is a petite Revenant with shoulder-length white hair, aquamarine eyes with vertical pupils, and black streaks running from her eyes down her cheeks and neck. The marks originate in the clash that killed her predecessor: Zac's Annihilation damaged the mentalist's eyes and soul, while Creation later fashioned replacements. A black silk scarf covered in aquamarine fractals initially shields others from her uncontrolled gaze and holds back her hair. The resulting image suggests perpetual sorrow, although Zac explicitly notes that her actual temperament is neither relentlessly gloomy nor cheerful. (Chapter 671)

Soul cultivation gives Vilari a calm, gentle manner that does not prevent decisive violence. She thinks in terms of responsibility, foundation, and long consequences, whether declining a premature evolution, warning Zac against battlefield recklessness, or accepting that the Atwood Empire may need a fresh start beyond Zecia. Her filial attachment to Zac is genuine and sometimes childlike, but the bell crisis forces her to act without the comfort of his soul connection. Later, she can acknowledge jealousy, suspicion, and fear without letting those emotions determine her judgment, as her meeting with Thea demonstrates. (Chapters 671, 688, 1067, 1135, and 1315)

Abilities and cultivation

Vilari is a soul cultivator and mentalist whose path joins the Crown of Despair inheritance, emotional Dao, a latent bloodline, and the Anima Court's seals. She deliberately spends years strengthening her soul before each major advancement. The Nine Reincarnations Manual provides her first structured foundation, but its Life affinity makes repeated reincarnation poorly suited to a Revenant. Ralz Calzood's method replaces it with a path designed for sensation and suffering, while Ultom's inspiration later lets Vilari fuse inheritance and bloodline rather than cultivate them as unrelated powers. Mental energy and emotional control

Vilari attacks the soul directly with condensed Miasma, Mental Energy, and emotional Dao. Woeful Dejection combines these forces with the Branch of Hollow Sensations strongly enough to disperse a peak E-grade spectral warrior's soul. At Hegemony, she can cover multiple armies with spiritual pressure, drown targets in despair, or suppress dangerous impulses by replacing them with sloth and nihilism. She can also overwhelm a weakened will until the victim loses its sense of self, temporarily taking control of the body. Kan'Tanu Heart Curses make their bearers particularly susceptible because their minds are already unstable. (Chapters 839, 1124, and 1129)

The same specialization imposes clear limits. Vilari's broad domain is not a true defensive skill, takes sustained concentration, and can only delay a stronger external compulsion. Soulless constructs give her attacks nothing to grasp, while Qriz'Ul expose her to Dead Dao and twisted desire every time she engages their minds. Strong soul wards, Sword Intent, or superior emotional control can resist her pressure. These counters explain why she combines early warning, battlefield command, and allies' physical attacks with mental offense instead of treating domination as universally decisive. Emancipation Eye and bloodline

The Emancipation Eye is the defining manifestation of Vilari's bloodline. Its vertical pupil appears as a vast eye that consumes thought and draws exposed minds into despair; after the bell's impartation, a horizontal scar joins it and bleeds the woes of the world. Even a simple nudge of Vilari's Mental Energy becomes dangerous when amplified by the eye and her Dao. It can reveal emotions that ordinary stealth does not hide, pressure multiple opponents, and pull defeated souls into the pupil, where their remaining cognizance is stripped away and refined into Mental Energy. Her bloodline is powerful but not effortless. Its forced awakening caused years of painful soul expansion, and her early lack of a matching cultivation method made eye contact dangerous even when she did not intend harm. Drawing deeply on the bloodline also exposes Vilari to the impressions and karma of the minds she consumes; she experiences them as shackles rather than free nourishment. Soul wards and disciplined emotional control therefore remain essential parts of its use, and the eye's pressure is not absolute against an opponent able to anchor identity in a sufficiently strong Dao. Soul movement and defenses

Soulshift launches a spiritual mote from Vilari's glabella and transfers her to its position, functioning as rapid movement for the soul-centered Revenant. She uses it while the Epiclesis Bell's aura is collapsing the mote, demonstrating both its speed and its dependence on maintaining enough spiritual structure to complete the exchange. Her soul wards serve the opposite purpose: they warn her before a mental influence reaches conscious thought, buying the moment needed to settle destabilizing emotions or raise a response. Together, the two abilities let a physically small mentalist avoid being fixed in place while she establishes control. (Chapters 1135 and 1315)

Vilari's soul is exceptional even among dedicated cultivators, but raw strength does not guarantee immunity. Zac's first reincarnation lets him meet her uncontrolled gaze without losing lucidity, and Janos would need an extraordinary treasure to reach a comparable soul, yet the Epiclesis Bell bypasses conventional resistance by acting through the same emotional truths Vilari cultivates. Anima Court's night is another hard counter because it suppresses the soul while unsealing buried emotion. Embers of Seven Sensations and the seven idols

The bell imparts Embers of Seven Sensations as a mysterious continuation of the Beseechment Pavilion's heritage. Vilari believes the connection comes through Ralz Calzood's inheritance rather than her body's original bloodline, but Jalach's corrupted version is not a trustworthy gift. The method resonates with despair, joy, and the other sensations strongly enough to attract the bell and reshape Vilari's techniques. Her survival inside the artifact later lets her withstand mental contamination that would otherwise defeat her quickly, although every such benefit remains entangled with the entity's attempt to use her as a route into the Anima and Mercurial Courts. In the Left Imperial Expanse, Vilari collects seven hostile emotional idols intended to become Seven Downfalls, an offensive Spirit Tool aligned with her Dao. Each idol assaults her emotions, providing both danger and tempering; once gathered, the Seven Emotions can surround her soul as an impenetrable wall and refine consumed emotion into clean Mental Energy. The complete set also creates a halo and recurring visions that guide her toward the Anima Court and the Pasho'Har Bell. At the latest point, the fusion is an active goal rather than a confirmed finished artifact, and the visions' guide may not be Jalach alone. (Chapters 1314 and 1375)

The Epiclesis Bell recognizes Vilari's inherited path, imparts Embers of Seven Sensations, and carries her away after she protects the Atwood army. Its corrupted inhabitant attempts to turn her into a means of reaching Ultom's courts. Zac destroys the bell's shell and frees her, but the encounter permanently changes her cultivation and leaves Jalach's surviving influence bound to her later search for the Pasho'Har Bell.
