Green Wind

Green Wind is the guardian divine beast of the Enger Plains and a constant companion of In-gong. She was reborn as a separate existence from a fragment of the elder dragon Ainkel's will, later accepted In-gong's Conquest, and became the principal operator of his flying shields.

Biography

Guardian of Enger Plains

Green Wind reveals herself when the Enger Plains are threatened by Mustafa and his army. She explains that she began as a fragment of the will left by Ainkel after the elder dragon's murder, but that centuries on the plains changed that fragment into a new guardian whom the centaurs and satyrs named Green Wind. Her memories of Ainkel are sparse, and she cannot identify the killer beyond knowing it was not another elder dragon. This makes her Ainkel's descendant in power and purpose, not Ainkel restored. She calls for help because the enemies corrupting the land threaten both the temple and the people she regards as her children. (Chapters 46–47 and 51)

At Ainkel's temple, Green Wind helps explain the paired systems sustaining the region. Ainkel's life magic transformed a desert into grassland, while separate protection magic controls the treants guarding the temple. Green Wind functions as a key part of the continuing life spell, so simply removing her would endanger the plains. She nevertheless accepts In-gong as a temporary master and becomes green light around his limbs, increasing his physical abilities and reading Mustafa's attacks closely enough to guide the decisive fight. The stored dragon magic that subsequently enters and reconstructs In-gong is Ainkel's remaining power, distinct from Green Wind herself; she welcomes its choice because it secures the temple and the plains. In-gong's inability to release Conquest makes the bond permanent, leaving Green Wind torn between staying with the land and following the master she has accepted. Rather than sacrifice either duty, she creates a substitute for her role in the life magic and leaves most of her power behind. The effort initially weakens her so severely that she cannot repeat the support blessing used against Mustafa. Separately, Felicia and Daphne analyze Ainkel's protection magic and determine that the treants can be controlled to defend the temple and plains. Green Wind then guides the group toward White Eagle, shares her aerial sight during an ambush, and nervously leaves her birthplace for the first time once its protection is secure. (Chapters 51–62)

Conquest's Divine Beast

Green Wind becomes an almost continuous presence beside In-gong, alternating between wind, a translucent manifestation, and eventually a visible solid body. She protects him against Famine through White Eagle, tries to help him absorb the Moonlight Extract, and admits surprise when its reaction exceeds anything she expected. In the Spider Forest she can physically interact with In-gong and other guardians, and her growing independence shows as strongly in affection and jealousy as in battle. Amita's addition of Black Eagle then broadens her military role: after initial difficulty imagining simultaneous control, she learns to fly, combine, separate, and weaponize the paired shields, using their automatic defensive patterns as support rather than replacing her own judgment. Across later campaigns, Green Wind acts as scout, defender, transport, and intimate adviser. She extends In-gong's view from the air, catches allies with precisely placed force fields, and can combine the shields into a platform or stretcher, though powerful enemies can push her defenses backward. Her solid form is warm and tactile, unlike the cool breeze of her semi-material state, and she sleeps beside In-gong so regularly that her absence disrupts his rest. When In-gong gains Apostle Appointment, she immediately asks to be first; Carack supports her because she already fights constantly at In-gong's side. Her eventual appointment enlarges her horns, lengthens her hair, clothes her in white light, multiplies her power, and gives her the bearing of a wind goddess, but the transformation is temporary rather than a permanent replacement for her ordinary form. The Sky Forest crisis demonstrates both the height and cost of that enhancement. As an apostle, Green Wind releases divine wind against ghosts, senses the evil around the first fairy king's tomb, shares senses with In-gong, and coordinates White Eagle, Black Eagle, Alpha, and Beta against the demonic god's lightning. She suffers pain through those defenses but continues protecting him, then embraces him to channel White Eagle and the immense magic stored in Abseltur's heart into their finishing attack. The effort leaves her unable to maintain a solid form. Later, attacks from Abseltur and Shutenberg again injure her through her link to In-gong or the shields, proving that neither apostleship nor her force fields make her untouchable. When In-gong nearly dies, she becomes unreachable and White Eagle stops responding until his restoration revives their connection. (Chapters 178, 188–193, and 215–224)

Green Wind returns with In-gong for the final battle, manifests in her goddess-like state, and continues coordinating his airborne protection. At his call of "Greenie," White Eagle catches the falling Carack, showing that her equipment control remains responsive amid the battlefield's chaos. She survives the victory and accompanies In-gong into the new reign. At his coronation she is temporarily raised to apostle form again and appears beside him as a goddess of wind, openly proud of her master and still jealous of time he gives Felicia or Caitlin. Her latest state is therefore active and mobile: the Enger Plains remain sustained by the substitute she left in its life magic and defended through the temple's protection magic, while Green Wind continues as In-gong's guardian companion and can receive temporary apostolic amplification when he appoints her. Appearance and personality

Green Wind initially appears as a mysterious young woman wearing blue leaves and stems. She has green hair, clear doe-like eyes, pointed ears, and deerlike antlers. Her form can become transparent or dissolve into green light and wind, reflecting her existence as a divine beast rather than an ordinary physical person. By the Spider Forest expedition she can materialize in a body visible and tangible to others; the corpus does not explain exactly when or how she gained this capability. Her semi-solid presence feels like a cool breeze, while her fully solid body has ordinary warmth. (Chapters 46, 49, 51, 94–95, and 156)

Apostle Appointment produces a distinct temporary appearance. Her antlers grow larger, her green hair becomes longer, her leaf clothing changes into a white dress made of light, and a white Conquest mark appears on her forehead. The resulting divine presence leads observers to compare her to a goddess of wind. This is an empowered form of Green Wind herself, not a return of Ainkel or evidence that their identities have merged. At the coronation, In-gong uses the same transformation ceremonially, confirming that the form remains available when he supplies the appointment. (Chapters 177, 226, and 231)

She is protective, affectionate, and intensely loyal. Her first priority is the Enger Plains and its inhabitants, yet accepting In-gong gives that sense of duty a personal focus: she wants to remain beside him, fears being abandoned, and readily turns into wind to accompany him everywhere. She praises him enthusiastically and wants praise in return, while her honesty about depleted power or unfamiliar phenomena keeps her devotion from becoming empty confidence. Her responsibility toward the plains and her willingness to leave most of her strength behind also show that she treats guardianship as an obligation rather than a title. (Chapters 46–58, 80, and 177)

Green Wind can also be direct, childlike, competitive, and possessive. She pouts when excluded, marks In-gong with her scent after detecting other spirits around him, materializes without much concern for privacy, and openly competes for his attention. Her banter with Carack is blunt but trusting, and she accepts his practical reasoning even while objecting to his jokes. These traits persist beside genuine courage: she remains linked to In-gong when doing so exposes her to pain, and in emergencies her desire for affection gives way immediately to warning, shielding, or carrying the people around him. (Chapters 58, 94–96, 167, 178, 208–209, and 215)

Powers and abilities

Ainkel's fragment and guardian magic

Green Wind originates from a fragment of Ainkel's powerful will, which slowly became a separate divine beast bound to the Enger Plains. That origin gives her affinity with Ainkel's life magic, knowledge of the temple, and the ability to sense related relics, but not Ainkel's full memories or identity. She remembers little of the elder dragon's death, cannot name the murderer, and treats Ainkel's stored dragon magic as another being's legacy when it chooses In-gong. Her own personality, loyalties, and decisions developed after the fragment's rebirth. (Chapters 46–48 and 51–52)

As the original guardian, she serves as a living component of the spell that keeps the plains fertile and can direct the treants associated with the temple's defenses. The two systems are related but not identical: Ainkel's life magic sustains the land, while protection magic animates the defenders. Green Wind coordinates the treants during the battle with Mustafa, then creates a substitute for her own role in the life magic. Felicia and Daphne separately determine that Ainkel's protection magic can be used to control the treants as defenders. Leaving nearly all her power in the substitute makes Green Wind drastically weaker and temporarily prevents her from using her earlier support magic. The precise rate and source of her later recovery are not stated. (Chapters 47, 49, and 51–59)

Her guardian nature also supports supernatural perception. Green Wind can detect the direction of White Eagle, sense the ominous influence of Death spreading from the north, recognize powerful evil around the fairy king's tomb, and distinguish natural spirits by scent. These senses supply warnings and directions rather than complete knowledge: she knows that danger is present without always understanding its origin, and the unexpected reaction between In-gong and Moonlight Extract proves that even phenomena related to life power can exceed her experience. (Chapters 52, 55, 80, 95, and 189)

Conquest bond and wind support

Green Wind initially accepts Conquest voluntarily as a temporary measure, but In-gong's inability to dismiss it creates a permanent master-companion bond. She can dissolve into green light around his body or into wind beside him, speak to him while not visibly materialized, and remain aware of his circumstances with unusual continuity. Through shared vision she lends him her high aerial viewpoint, extending the practical range of his mini-map, and later shares senses during close combat. The connection is powerful but dependent: when In-gong's soul nearly collapses, Felicia cannot sense Green Wind and White Eagle will not answer. (Chapters 49–55, 119, 190, 209, and 216–224)

Her early blessing increases In-gong's strength, agility, durability, and persistence by ten percent and lets her read an enemy's path closely enough to guide his responses. Later techniques include Protection of Wind, strong gusts, flight assistance, battlefield scent dispersal, and high-class blessings delivered in apostle form. She also comforts an exhausted In-gong as he falls asleep and tries to help him absorb the Moonlight Extract, although its reaction exceeds her expectations. These applications range from emotional support to combat enhancement, but they are not freely interchangeable: power left on the plains prevents her from repeating the initial blessing immediately, and her attempt with the extract encounters a reaction she cannot control. Materialization and Apostle Appointment

Green Wind's ordinary manifestation progresses from an airy or translucent figure to a solid, warm, tactile body. She can change back into wind rapidly, which allows her to accompany In-gong or enter White Eagle. Solidification supports physical conversation and affection but does not make her biologically human, and the corpus does not define its energy requirements. After the joint attack on the demonic god, she cannot sustain a solid state, establishing at least one clear relationship between heavy power use and material stability. (Chapters 94–96, 108, 156, 177, and 191–193)

Apostle Appointment is a temporary enhancement supplied by In-gong's Conquest. It increases Green Wind's power several times over, creates the white-marked goddess form, and enables high-class blessings and divine winds strong enough to destroy banshees and ghosts. In that state she can oppose the demonic god, amplify the shields, and spread In-gong's supernatural scent across an army. The enhancement can be reassigned among In-gong's companions and does not persist automatically; narration later calls her a previous apostle, while the coronation requires In-gong to appoint her again. Even at full amplification, Abseltur's corrupt force injures her through In-gong's aura and cannot be endured indefinitely. (Chapters 165–178, 188–191, 212, and 231)

White Eagle and Black Eagle

Green Wind is the principal operator of White Eagle, an elder-dragon shield owned and wielded by In-gong. She can reside within it, sense its direction, move it independently around him, and project its green force field. Her applications include blocking attacks, catching falling allies, carrying passengers, forming stable aerial platforms, extending reconnaissance, and shaping the field into cutting blades. White Eagle is equipment rather than an innate part of her body, although their close bond makes its responses an important expression of her power. (Chapters 52, 55, 59, 80, 108, 119, 141, and 227–228)

After Amita adds Black Eagle, Green Wind learns to operate the two shields separately or as a combined, wider defense. Black Eagle carries the last flame's blessing, and automatic defensive patterns help her manage both objects until simultaneous control becomes familiar. Later she coordinates White Eagle, Black Eagle, Alpha, and Beta in a moving defense against lightning, and the heart of Abseltur stored in White Eagle supplies enormous magic for the joint attack on the demonic god. These are equipment-enabled outputs, not proof that Green Wind innately possesses every relic's power. (Chapters 108, 114–116, and 190–191)

The shields have demonstrable limits and transmit danger back to their operator. The barbarian king can drive their force field backward, the demonic god's lightning makes Green Wind scream while she maintains it, and Shutenberg's attack hurts her through White Eagle and Black Eagle despite their resistance to curses. Her ability to direct them also falters when In-gong's life and their bond collapse. At the latest point in the corpus the restored equipment again answers her, and she remains capable of using White Eagle to catch Carack during the final battle. • In-gong: Green Wind accepts him first as a temporary master and then chooses to remain beside him after the bond becomes permanent. He refuses to take her away at the cost of the Enger Plains, while she becomes his scout, shield operator, adviser, and affectionate constant companion. Their intimacy includes praise, jealousy, sleep, kisses, and absolute battlefield trust, but she retains an independent will and directly voices what she wants. • Ainkel: Green Wind was reborn from a fragment of Ainkel's will and inherited affinity with the elder dragon's life magic and relics. She has only scattered memories of Ainkel and speaks of Ainkel's choices as distinct from her own, establishing a line of origin rather than a shared identity. (Chapters 46–48 and 51–52)
• Carack: Carack treats Green Wind as both a fellow protector of In-gong and a target for blunt teasing. She protests his jokes but trusts his practical judgment, relays commands during his apostolic charge, and ultimately catches him with White Eagle during the final battle.
