Lich

Lich is a necromancer whose ability to extract powerful undead essences made him a civilization-ending threat in Alex Rogue's prior timeline. In the present, he becomes the Chosen One of Nocteron, commands the captured Undead Lord, and reaches the final battle of the Chosen Games before Alex destroys his soul. (Chapters 328–330, 472–502)

Biography

The threat reaches Undead Land

Alex remembers Lich as a necromancer second only to the gods among his future enemies. In that timeline, Lich enslaved both Astolf, the Undead King, and the Undead Lord, then used their essences to build armies numbering in the millions and erase cities and civilizations. Alex's early contract with Astolf removes one piece of that remembered catastrophe, but the free Undead Lord remains vulnerable in the failing Undead Land. (Chapters 328–329)

Alex travels there intending to kill the Undead Lord before Lich can claim him, only to find an empty castle and a lifeless body that crumbles when touched. The aftermath establishes that Lich arrived first and extracted the monarch's essence off-page. That present-day success turns remembered danger into an active crisis: Lich has already gained one of the assets that made him unstoppable, and Alex places killing him at the top of his task list. Chosen One of Death

Lich physically enters the Chosen Round carrying a black, skull-topped scepter and representing Death against Asmon, the Chosen One of Hatred. He speaks almost amiably about concealing strength, then summons the Grim Reaper and kills Asmon before the opponent reveals his best abilities. The efficient victory confirms Alex's fear: Lich is not merely a mass summoner, but a careful combatant who uses overwhelming death magic while withholding other capabilities. (Chapters 472–474)

Paired with Nocteron, Lich later battles Elyssara and Seren. He protects his summoning long enough to call the captured Undead Lord, while Nocteron uses Life Drain to survive lethal damage. Even decapitation cannot keep Lich down because the bond lets him share his god's stored lives. Nocteron kills Elyssara with Death, Seren is annihilated through their divine bond, and the Death pair advances toward the final confrontation. (Chapters 482–484)

Undead Monarch and shattered soul

Against Alex and Kaelios, Lich opens with a hundred-thousand-skeleton army, fields the Grim Reaper and Undead Lord, and uses Necrotic Orbs while Nocteron kills opposing skills. Their coordinated pressure gives Nocteron the opening to kill Kaelios permanently. When Alex survives the resulting annihilation and enters Hatred's Fury, Lich fuses with the Skeleton Monarch and becomes the Undead Monarch Form, gaining altered armor, a transformed scepter, and the ability to call multiple Undead Lords. Lich defeats Alex's empowered Undead Lord and initially trusts the millions of shared lives to outlast the final minutes. The Domain of Determination removes that advantage by making each visible soul projection the participant's only life. Alex repeatedly strikes Lich's bone-wrapped soul despite his summoned reapers, beasts, skeletal restraints, and strengthened scepter. The projection shatters, permanently killing Lich and costing Nocteron half his power through their bond. (Chapters 500–502)

Appearance and personality

Lich has long white hair, corpse-pale skin, a skeletal-thin build, and cold eyes whose shifting shade resembles Nocteron's. He wears long black robes and carries a silver-and-bone or blackened scepter charged with death energy. In Undead Monarch Form, his skin turns cracked ashen gray, skull shapes spin within emerald pupils, jagged black-and-bone armor covers him, and necrotic light pulses through his altered body. He is calm, mocking, calculating, and deeply confident in death's structural advantages. Lich prefers to conceal his strongest abilities, punishes opponents who do the same, and treats summoned beings and defeated enemies as instruments or trophies. His confidence becomes manic triumph when Kaelios falls, then visible terror when determination makes soul damage irreversible. Even then, he continues summoning and declares that his will can surpass Alex's rather than surrender. (Chapters 473, 483–484, 492–502)

Skills and system abilities

Lich's listed abilities include Undead Summoning, Death, Grim Reaper, and Necrotic Orbs. His unique necromancy extracts the essence of powerful undead rather than merely reanimating corpses, enabling him to preserve and summon the Undead Lord. He fields armies ranging from ordinary skeletons to Undead Reapers and beasts, directs skeletal hands from the ground, and uses the Grim Reaper's scythe as an especially dangerous attack. (Chapters 328–329, 473, 483–484, 492–495, 502)

Through his bond with Nocteron, Lich shares Life Drain and can reconstruct himself by consuming stored lives. Fusion with the Skeleton Monarch produces the Undead Monarch Form, empowers his scepter, and lets him summon a legion that includes multiple Undead Lords. These defenses cease to matter in the Domain of Determination, where his one exposed soul becomes the sole measure of life and can be permanently shattered. (Chapters 484, 493, 498–502)
