Biography

The company’s archer

Blaze becomes visible to Eryk during the fighting around Macha, where he is identified as the best archer in Castile’s company. His skill is not merely a reputation: during the siege he fires at approaching troops and disrupts their advance, helping the defenders hold the wall. Other soldiers point Eryk toward Blaze when he asks who can teach expert marksmanship, emphasizing that Blaze’s ability is recognized throughout the unit. (Chapters 40, 46, 51)

Blaze also works with the company outside direct combat. He joins patrols and rescue efforts, and later hunts alongside Maveith and the others. His competence makes him a dependable partner in dangerous situations, while his relatively quiet presence allows other companions to take the lead when circumstances call for it. (Chapters 43, 55, 200)

Traveling with Eryk’s companions

After the company’s fortunes change, Blaze continues with Eryk, Mateo, and Benito. He takes part in the return of Maveith’s people and in later journeys, contributing his ranged skill to group expeditions. Raelia later admits that she was the griffin rider Blaze shot down over Macha, revealing that his skill once put them on opposing sides before she became part of the party. (Chapters 318–326, 332)
