Marquis Purple Rain is an elderly Marquis Godfiend assigned with Marquis West Sea to defend Eastcalm City. His only direct appearance is his last battle, where a hidden fifth Firmament demon monarch turns a manageable defense into a fatal ambush.

Death in Eastcalm City's defense
Purple Rain and Marquis West Sea initially hold a slight advantage against six fourth Firmament demon monarchs attacking Eastcalm City. An azure-scaled fifth Firmament demon monarch then launches a surprise attack, heavily wounds Purple Rain, and joins the six attackers in killing him. Meng Chuan arrives after Purple Rain has already died, saves West Sea, and captures the killer's head. The failure to arrive in time remains one of the deaths that drives Meng to prioritize raw speed in his later cultivation. (Chapters 292–296 and 355)
