Frigidsect

Frigidsect is the first-generation patriarch of the Spirit Stream Sect, an ancient guardian charged with restoring the fallen Frigid School whose statecraft, true-spirit stewardship, and mentorship help transform four Lower Reaches sects into the River-Defying Sect. (Chapters 116–117, 218, and 323–378)

Biography

Ten Thousand Years of Guardianship

Frigidsect's life is organized around a mission given by his master ten thousand years earlier: protect the true spirit, raise the Spirit Stream Sect through the Middle and Upper Reaches, destroy the Nine Heavens Cloud Lightning Sect, and return to the Frigid School's ancestral home. His master extends his existence so he can pursue that work, though Frigidsect later acknowledges that such longevity methods only delay an eventual death. When the master reappears in the form of a monkey created through Bai Xiaochun's medicine, Frigidsect immediately resumes the posture of an apprentice and answers for the task he has carried across the ages. The reunion directs Frigidsect's attention to infiltration beneath Fragrant Cloud Peak and to Bai Xiaochun's possible role in awakening the sect's true spirit. He examines thirty years of records, recognizes the strange compatibility between Bai's disastrous medicine and the legendary River-Defying Pill, and arranges for him to receive both its formula and the Frigid School Medicine Manual. This is not blind faith: the pill has defeated every apothecary for ten millennia, but Frigidsect accepts an unconventional candidate because the sect's restoration requires a possibility that conventional methods have not supplied. War, Union, and the Middle Reaches

As war threatens the Spirit Stream and Blood Stream Sects, Frigidsect weighs catastrophic casualties against the survival and advancement of his own sect. He initially accepts concessions to avoid destruction but rejects further compromise when he judges softness more dangerous, placing institutional duty above his fatigue with conflict. After Bai Xiaochun stops the war and the four sects combine, Frigidsect becomes the Spirit Stream Division's founding patriarch within the River-Defying Sect and helps organize the upriver campaign. (Chapter 218 and Chapters 323–329)

During the assault on the Sky River Court, he abandons the river approach when the battle plan requires it, coordinates the divisions, and takes responsibility for the enemy's death beetle. His answer is to kneel before the baby-girl body of the Spirit Stream true spirit and request its intervention, a dangerous reserve he has guarded rather than treated as an ordinary weapon. The awakened true spirit destroys the beetle, enabling the campaign to continue, and Frigidsect subsequently helps establish the victors on Mount River Defiance. (Chapters 323–341)

Patriarch of a Vulnerable New Sect

The River-Defying Sect's victory does not make it equal to its new neighbors. When the three established Middle Reaches sects deny it the Sky River Court's resource shares, Frigidsect suppresses his anger because the Starry Sky Dao Polarity Sect has endorsed a legacy competition that he cannot safely refuse. The age requirement leaves Bai Xiaochun as the sect's only viable entrant. Frigidsect uses exaggerated concern and family language to overcome Bai's reluctance, but the manipulation rests on a real strategic pressure: refusing would publicly confirm the new sect's weakness and erode its position before it has consolidated. Frigidsect then accepts a high-stakes wager on Bai's performance, protects him when the other sects' disciples emerge intent on killing him, and converts Bai's monopoly of the legacy seals into resources and standing for the River-Defying Sect. He and the other patriarchs are calculating enough not to ask how Bai achieved the result, yet their first concern when the trial turns dangerous is his survival. This mixture of political craft and genuine protectiveness defines Frigidsect's leadership of the new institution. (Chapters 364–371)

Preparing Bai Xiaochun's Path

When a Starry Sky Dao Polarity deva demands hostages, Frigidsect cannot prevent Bai Xiaochun's departure. He tries to dissuade the envoy, consoles Bai in private, and reframes the journey through Bai's desire for longevity: the higher sect offers better prospects for Nascent Soul cultivation, which would also strengthen the River-Defying Sect. He then gives Bai a wood-type deva soul, explaining both the legendary five-soul route and the possibility of trading it for deva beast souls. The gift commits one of the sect's rarest resources to making its junior patriarch's future as open as possible. (Chapters 374–378)

The other selected hostage is the person the sect then knows as Gongsun Wan'er. Later revelations establish that the original Gongsun Wan'er died in the Fallen Sword Abyss and that Ghostmother subsequently occupied her body; Frigidsect does not know that distinction when he receives the deva's order. His consent therefore concerns the apparent disciple before him, not informed recognition of Ghostmother or an equation of the two identities. Later Heavenspan Conflict

Frigidsect remains associated with the River-Defying Sect after Bai Xiaochun's departure and celebrates reports of the junior patriarch's rise. His final direct identification occurs during the larger Heavenspan conflict, when Chen Hetian angrily demands that he stop holding back and threatens the River-Defying Sect. The brief scene establishes that Frigidsect is alive and participating, but does not describe his exact opponent, subsequent actions, or ultimate cultivation advancement. (Chapters 440 and 996)

Appearance and personality

Frigidsect appears as a tall old man in a long violet robe. A third eye can open on his forehead, yet his cultivation aura is so completely concealed that he can resemble an ordinary mortal; at the same time, his bearing is compared to that of a transcendent paragon. The source does not provide further stable details such as hair or eye color. (Chapter 116)

He is patient, politically shrewd, and willing to accept morally difficult choices for the sect's survival. His ancient mission makes him uncompromising about institutional advancement, but he is not indifferent to casualties or disciples: he recognizes the cost of war, worries over Bai Xiaochun, gives away a deva soul, and treats the sect as family. Around Bai he moves between stern patriarch, manipulative statesman, and affectionate elder, while in front of his returned master he becomes dutiful and almost youthful again. (Chapters 116–118, 218, 359–378)

Abilities and cultivation

Frigidsect is a great-circle Nascent Soul cultivator whose knowledge spans sect formations, cultivation theory, and ancient Frigid School legacies. His latest realm remains Nascent Soul in explicit narration; being considered likely to reach the Deva Realm is not proof that he does so.

Nascent Soul cultivation and longevity

Frigidsect can conceal his cultivation completely, teleport without warning, and unleash pressure sufficient to affect an entire local area. He is one of the River-Defying Sect's three strongest great-circle Nascent Soul patriarchs and among those judged most likely to become devas. His ten-thousand-year survival depends on unspecified special methods rather than ordinary Nascent Soul longevity, and he states that their price is inevitable death despite preserving cultivation ability. The exact technique, remaining lifespan, and whether he later breaks through are unknown. (Chapters 116, 345–347, 356, 373, and 377)

Frigid School and formation knowledge

Frigidsect understands the eight hidden magical symbols that form the Spirit Stream Sect's lifeblood and recognizes that repairing them requires grandmaster skill. He preserves the Frigid School Medicine Manual, the River-Defying Pill formula, and a secret Core Formation technique later given to Bai Xiaochun. He also explains Nascent Soul and Deva cultivation routes in practical detail, including the limitations of low-grade breakthroughs and the rarity of five-elements deva souls. These scenes establish custodianship and theoretical mastery, though they do not demonstrate him personally using every legacy he transmits. (Chapters 116–117, 347–348, and 372–378)

True-spirit stewardship

Frigidsect's defining authority is guardianship rather than ownership of the Spirit Stream true spirit. He maintains its coffin aboard the Heavenspan Battleship and, when the death beetle threatens mass casualties, kneels and petitions it to act. He does not command it casually; his trembling request and the other patriarchs' reliance on his promise show that awakening it is a reserve measure tied to his ancient mission. (Chapters 323 and 341)

Black-and-white sun art

When infiltrators attack the River-Defying Sect, Frigidsect waves a hand to summon a black sun and a white sun, each containing a raven. The suns and ravens overlap into a single awakened bird that flies to attack while allied treasures and manifestations appear around it. The corpus demonstrates this large-scale offensive use but does not name the technique, explain its energy source, or isolate its effect from the combined assault by the other patriarchs. Relationships

• Bai Xiaochun: The junior patriarch in whom Frigidsect sees both danger and the best chance for the sect's future. He supplies Bai with ancient medicine, uses him in high-stakes sect strategy, protects him from rivals, and gives him a deva soul and cultivation guidance before departure.
• Li Qinghou: A senior Spirit Stream cultivator whose disciples and apothecary tradition operate within the institution Frigidsect guards. Both invest heavily in Bai Xiaochun, though the corpus gives them little direct personal interaction.
• Master Godwind: The Blood Stream founding patriarch and one of Frigidsect's closest leadership peers after the four-sect union. They coordinate war, diplomacy, internal security, and the River-Defying Sect's cultivation prospects.
• Ghostmother: Frigidsect unknowingly helps send her to the Starry Sky Dao Polarity Sect while she occupies Gongsun Wan'er's body. He treats her as the apparent Spirit Stream disciple and has no source-grounded knowledge of her actual identity at that time.
• Gongsun Wan'er: The original Spirit Stream disciple whose identity the hostage selection appears to concern. She is distinct from Ghostmother, who possesses her body after her death.
