Yuan Yao

Yuan Yao is a Scattered Star Seas cultivator whose loyalty to her senior sister Yan Li determines the most consequential choices of her life. She gives up safety, treasure, a formed core, and even an ordinary chance at reincarnation to preserve Yan Li's soul. Those sacrifices do not reduce her to a victim: she continually studies the remaining routes forward, bargains for protection, conceals recognition under hostile scrutiny, and turns a damaged foundation into an unusual semi-ghost cultivation path.

Her relationship with Han Li begins through guarded exchanges in the Scattered Star Seas and becomes a durable alliance across Heavenvoid Hall, the Umbra Realm, Earth Abyss, and later tribulations. Qing Yuanzi eventually restores her human body and raises her cultivation, but Yuan Yao continues to act from the same loyalty that began her journey. In Chapter 3848 she attempts the ascension tribulation with Yan Li and other old companions watching, and survives through Han Li's intervention from outside their expected time. Biography

Scattered Star Seas and Heavenvoid Hall

Yuan Yao first meets Han Li as a low-level Qi Condensation cultivator in the Scattered Star Seas, where beauty and weak backing make concealment and quick judgment essential. She is clever enough to bargain rather than challenge a stronger cultivator blindly, and her outward confidence masks a realistic understanding of danger. Their early encounters establish a pattern in which she tests Han Li's intentions, recognizes his preference for fair exchange, and keeps her own identity and resources protected. (Chapters 375–398)

By the Heavenvoid Hall expedition, Yuan Yao has reached early Core Formation and initially hides behind another surname when Han Li recognizes her. The disguise cannot survive his questions, but their prior dealings allow them to rebuild cooperation. She transfers the Weeping Soul Beast and Pearl to him in exchange for protection, adding other attack treasures to the bargain. The decision places a valuable companion in safer hands and secures assistance without requiring Yuan Yao to pretend trust is unconditional. (Chapters 445–464)

Yuan Yao survives the Heavenvoid struggle alongside Han Li while stronger Nascent Soul cultivators compete for the Heavenvoid Cauldron. Her role is not based on matching those figures directly; she reads alliances, preserves mobility, and relies on negotiated commitments. The experience leaves her with both a proven ally and a clearer understanding that advancement in the Scattered Star Seas demands risks beyond ordinary seclusion. (Chapters 445–499)

Sacrificing the core to save Yan Li

Yuan Yao and Yan Li later kill the Azure Yang young master, but victory leaves Yan Li's soul in danger of dispersing. Yuan Yao obtains Soul Nurturing Wood and begins the Soulrise Technique to preserve her, accepting that the ritual requires the destruction of her own newly formed core. The choice gives up the secure result of years of cultivation for a possibility rather than a guarantee, making her loyalty a material change to her body and future rather than a verbal declaration. Ghost Mist interrupts the Soulrise ritual and carries Yuan Yao, Yan Li, Han Li, and others into the Umbra Realm, where normal magic power is suppressed. The disruption leaves Yuan Yao without the ordinary foundation she sacrificed and without a completed rescue. Instead of abandoning Yan Li, she commits them both to the Yin Yang Revolution Arts, a paired ghostly method that can rebuild their path but carries severe backlash and the possible loss of reincarnation. The escape through a spatial tear saves Yuan Yao from the Umbra Realm but does not undo her choice. She emerges committed to a semi-ghost existence shared with Yan Li, and the two women must cultivate through consequences no conventional Core Formation advancement can solve. Han Li's help preserves their immediate survival, while Yuan Yao's refusal to release Yan Li establishes the long-term direction of both lives. (Chapters 594–596)

Earth Abyss, Qing Yuanzi, and restored humanity

When Yuan Yao reunites with Han Li in Earth Abyss, she is a snow-fair, outwardly cold semi-ghost cultivator entangled with the abyssal monarchs. Open recognition would endanger both of them, so she conceals their history while under hostile observation and waits for an opportunity to cooperate. She and Yan Li then escape the surrounding schemes with Han Li, showing that their altered bodies have not erased either memory or strategic discipline. (Chapters 1464–1522)

The pair later become foster daughters of Qing Yuanzi, gaining a protector whose cultivation can address damage beyond their own reach. Qing Yuanzi restores their human bodies and cultivates Yuan Yao to early Body Integration. His aid is not purely ornamental: Yuan Yao's Heavenly Yin Physique is needed to assist his tribulation, and she accepts the responsibility, later risking herself on behalf of the foster father who rebuilt their path. Han Li helps repel outside attackers during Qing Yuanzi's crisis and promises further resources for Yuan Yao's eventual Grand Ascension. By the last preparation point before Han Li leaves the Spirit Realm, she is near that threshold but has not yet completed it. Her restored body and high cultivation do not cancel the history of sacrifice; they are the delayed result of surviving long enough for loyalty, patronage, and repeated cooperation to create another route. The ascension tribulation

Much later, Yuan Yao undertakes a heavenly tribulation above an island in the Endless Sea while Nangong Wan, Yan Li, Ice Phoenix, and Silvermoon watch. She meets fire and lightning with an azure sword lotus and multiple defensive treasures, but the assault destroys her defenses and exhausts her magic power. Facing death, her final thought is regret that she will never meet Han Li again, showing that their old bond remains important without replacing her lifelong devotion to Yan Li. (Chapter 3848)

Han Li arrives through time and shields her with the last power of the Heaven Controlling Vial. Yuan Yao does not recognize the exalted immortal who intervenes, but she completes the tribulation and is drawn through the ascension passage. The scene closes her lower-realm arc with an important asymmetry: she earns the attempt through her own cultivation and resolve, yet survival at the final instant depends on an ally whose help she cannot identify or repay. Appearance and personality

Yuan Yao is repeatedly described as a breathtaking beauty with a lithe figure and snow-fair skin. She wears black robes during the Heavenvoid period and white during her final tribulation; in Earth Abyss her graceful appearance is paired with an intentionally cold expression. Her presentation can shift from flirtatious confidence during bargaining to severe composure under danger, but these are tactical faces rather than separate identities. (Chapters 375, 445–464, 1464, 1517–1518, 3848)

She is proud, clever, emotionally steadfast, and exceptionally loyal. Yuan Yao bargains sharply with Han Li and can conceal recognition when openness would be fatal, yet she repeatedly accepts costs that offer her no immediate advantage when Yan Li or Qing Yuanzi is threatened. Her resolve is not fearlessness: the final tribulation exhausts her and she accepts death when resistance is gone, but she never treats that fear as a reason to abandon a chosen responsibility. Abilities and cultivation

Yuan Yao's path crosses conventional cultivation, a deliberate loss of her core, semi-ghost cultivation, restored humanity, and eventual ascension. Her techniques are therefore closely tied to bodily state and partnership with Yan Li; a capability demonstrated during the ghost-path period should not be treated as automatically unchanged after Qing Yuanzi restores her body. Soulrise and Yin Yang Revolution Arts

The Soulrise Technique uses rare materials, including Soul Nurturing Wood, to preserve and revive a soul, but Yuan Yao's attempt requires shattering her Core Formation core. Ghost Mist interrupts the process before it can resolve cleanly. She and Yan Li then choose the Yin Yang Revolution Arts, a paired route suited to their compromised condition. It gives them a future cultivation path while exposing them to backlash and threatening their ability to enter normal reincarnation if it fails. (Chapters 560–567, 594)

As semi-ghost cultivators, Yuan Yao and Yan Li use Yin and ghostly methods compatible with Earth Abyss. The altered state helps them survive an environment and factions that would be inaccessible to ordinary lower-realm cultivators, but it also makes them dependent on one another and vulnerable to powerful ghost beings. Their eventual return to human bodies comes from Qing Yuanzi's intervention, not a demonstrated self-directed reversal of the technique. (Chapters 1464–1522, 1864–1865, 2317)

Heavenly Yin Physique and high-realm cultivation

Yuan Yao possesses a Heavenly Yin Physique that becomes significant after Qing Yuanzi restores her human body and raises her to early Body Integration. Its Yin affinity allows her to assist his tribulation, connecting her personal constitution to a duty within their foster relationship. The text establishes its ritual usefulness and compatibility with her prior Yin path, but does not define it as universal superiority over cultivators at the same realm. (Chapters 2317–2326)

By the final lower-realm scene, Yuan Yao can deploy seventy-two azure flying swords as a vast sword lotus, release interlocking sword qi, and coordinate several defensive treasures against fire and lightning tribulations. The defenses withstand the initial assault but eventually crack, and her magic power is fully depleted. The display establishes Grand Ascension-level preparation while also showing that equipment and resolve cannot alone overcome the final heavenly lightning. (Chapter 3848)

Relationships

• Yan Li: Yuan Yao's senior sister and central lifelong loyalty. Saving Yan Li motivates the shattered core, Soulrise ritual, shared semi-ghost path, and much of Yuan Yao's willingness to accept irreversible risk.
• Han Li: A recurring ally whose relationship with Yuan Yao grows from guarded trade into mutual rescue. He protects her in several realms and ultimately saves her final tribulation without revealing himself.
• Qing Yuanzi: Her foster father, protector, and later cultivation benefactor. He restores her human body and raises her realm; she in turn uses her constitution to help with his tribulation.
• Nangong Wan and Silvermoon: Old companions who stand with Yan Li during Yuan Yao's final tribulation, unable to intervene directly but openly concerned for her survival.
