Nangong Wan

Nangong Wan is a senior cultivator of the Masked Moon Sect, Han Li's chosen wife and Dao Companion, and one of the few people whose decisions repeatedly redirect his life across the Mortal, Spirit, and Immortal Realms. Her first encounter with Han Li begins under the unstable conditions of her Female Essence Incarnation Technique, but the relationship endures because she repeatedly chooses it despite secrecy, sect coercion, long separations, and competing claims from a former life.

Her story is defined by autonomy rather than passive reunion. She challenges her own sect, survives a Soul Seal Curse through calculated self-sealing, cultivates independently to the upper reaches of each realm she inhabits, protects the human community of Small Spirit Sky, and ultimately decides which reincarnated memories belong to the life she wishes to continue. By the final chapter, she lives beside Han Li at peak High Zenith while retaining the judgment that has shaped every earlier choice. Biography

Trial by Blood and Fire

Nangong Wan enters the forbidden area as a Core Formation elder whose Female Essence Incarnation cycle has reduced her apparent age and accessible power. Taking the form of a white-clothed young woman, she leads Masked Moon disciples toward the Inky Flood Dragon and treats the hunt as a sect objective, not an occasion to expose her identity. The transformation makes her unusually vulnerable, but she continues to command the group and commits her own magic treasure when the beast emerges. (Chapters 181–207)

When the other disciples withdraw, Nangong Wan and Han Li cooperate against the flood dragon despite their enormous normal difference in cultivation. She uses the Vermillion Bird Band to restrain and burn it, directs Han Li's attacks, and continues fighting as her incarnation state and magic power deteriorate. The dragon's final poison strips away the safety of rank and authority, forcing the two cultivators into intimacy neither had chosen under ordinary conditions. Nangong Wan nevertheless recovers enough control to help Han Li leave alive. (Chapters 207–210)

The encounter becomes a private conflict she cannot solve through sect discipline. She initially keeps her distance and conceals what occurred, while Han Li only gradually learns that the young trial participant and the formidable Celestial Nangong are the same person. Later revelations show that she did not simply forget him: his survival, rapid advancement, and the unresolved bond become an inner demon that makes killing him, accepting him, or permanently damaging her own cultivation the available choices. Rescue, coercion, and chosen partnership

During the Devil Dao invasion, Nangong Wan goes back in an attempt to rescue Han Li rather than evacuating safely with the Masked Moon Sect. She is injured in the attempt and later uses the name Nangong Bing with an altered appearance while traveling, protecting both her identity and the vulnerable connection between them. Her intervention does not produce an immediate reunion, but it establishes that her loyalty operates through action even while public sect obligations require concealment. (Chapters 359–363, 710–714)

Years later, Nangong Wan tells Han Li that she had weighed destroying him against accepting marriage and chose the latter after recognizing both his character and advancement. That choice is threatened when her senior martial sister restrains her during another incarnation period and arranges a marriage to Wei Lichen for sect advantage. Nangong Wan does not ask Han Li to solve the problem alone: she shares the danger, agrees to leave, and fights beside him against the senior sister controlling her future. (Chapters 713–719)

Nangong Wan's Divine Incarnation Light restrains her senior martial sister without requiring her death, preserving a relationship even as Nangong rejects the sect's coercion. The escape is interrupted when the Soul Seal Curse takes effect, forcing Nangong to seal herself in glacial qi through the Greater Incarnation Arts. She and Han Li exchange the paired Heaven-Earth Rings as a pledge, but her survival requires seclusion. Their commitment is therefore established through a postponed future rather than immediate possession of one another's lives. (Chapters 718–728)

Marriage and cultivation across realms

After the curse is resolved and Han Li returns, their grand marriage formalizes a bond that their allies already recognize. Nangong Wan is around mid-Nascent Soul and continues cultivating instead of becoming an appendage to Han Li's household. Their companionship allows affection, teasing, shared seclusion, and independent training to coexist; both accept that pursuit of the Dao may require long periods apart without treating separation as abandonment. (Chapters 1190–1200)

Nangong Wan advances to late Nascent Soul before Han Li leaves the human world. She accepts resources and protection while also developing responsibilities of her own, including transmitting or indirectly guiding the Greater Incarnation Arts through Zhu Guo'er. Her later passage through a spatial node places her in Small Spirit Sky rather than the same Spirit Realm region as Han Li, turning the promised reunion into another long-term cultivation problem she must navigate without him. As Fairy Moon, she becomes the most powerful human cultivator in Small Spirit Sky and approaches Grand Ascension after refining two true-spirit cores. When Han Li finally reaches her, she asks him not merely to extract her companions but to protect the future of the local human population. The request shows how her authority has widened: reunion remains personally important, yet she refuses to treat people who depended on her as disposable obstacles to that reunion. Gan Rushuang's memories and Nangong Wan's choice

In the Immortal Realm, the Reincarnation Palace Master reveals that Nangong Wan was Gan Rushuang in a past life. Gan Rushuang had been his wife and the mother of Gan Jiuzhen, creating a genuine history that does not make the present Han Li Gan Jiuzhen's father. The Six Paths Reincarnation Plate restores those memories and temporarily grants unstable cultivation associated with that identity, leaving Nangong divided between two lives and vulnerable to other people's claims about who she should be. (Chapters 3752–3760)

Nangong Wan does not accept either man's desire as sufficient proof of her future. Han Li refuses to bargain away their relationship, but she still tests his identity and listens to the history of his path before deciding. Her eventual choice is to live as Nangong Wan rather than resume Gan Rushuang's marriage to the Palace Master. When that decision stabilizes, the cultivation restored with Gan Rushuang's memories is lost, making autonomy carry a concrete cost rather than functioning as a consequence-free declaration. The reunion that follows is therefore not the recovery of a prize or the erasure of Gan Rushuang. Nangong Wan acknowledges the past life while choosing the relationship and self formed in her current one. She later reaches peak High Zenith and lives with Han Li after the final war, close enough to question his decisions and share his quiet life. Her ending preserves both affection and judgment—the same combination that first allowed their bond to survive unequal power and divided loyalties. (Chapters 3788–3790, 3849)

Appearance and personality

Nangong Wan's true appearance is marked by fair skin, black hair, a slightly pointed chin, a delicate nose, and clear, alluring eyes. Her Female Essence Incarnation Technique can make her resemble an innocent girl of fifteen or sixteen, while veils and her Nangong Bing disguise obscure the mature Celestial Nangong known to other cultivators. In the Immortal Realm she is described in blue palatial dress, retaining the exceptional beauty associated with her earlier identities. (Chapters 182, 208–210, 359–363, 713–715, 3760)

Publicly, she is dignified, decisive, and accustomed to command. Privately, she can be proud, playful, protective, and emotionally cautious. Her defining consistency is that affection never eliminates independent judgment: she rescues Han Li but challenges him, leaves sect control but spares her senior sister, accepts long separation for cultivation, and refuses to let either a past husband or a present one define her reincarnated identity without her consent. Abilities and cultivation

Nangong Wan follows the standard immortal-cultivation ladder while specializing in incarnation techniques, restraint, sword arts, and protective treasures. Her power is repeatedly affected by cyclic regression, curses, realm separation, and reincarnated memories, so her highest temporary access and her stable personal cultivation must be kept distinct. Female Essence Incarnation and Greater Incarnation Arts

The Female Essence Incarnation Technique preserves youth through a cycle that occurs every ten years. During an incarnation period, Nangong Wan's body appears younger and her accessible cultivation drops, creating the vulnerability seen in the forbidden-area trial and later exploited by her senior martial sister. The technique is also disrupted by her encounter with Han Li, and some of its restricted power is transferred to him. Its benefits therefore come with predictable periods in which enemies can act against her reduced state. (Chapters 182, 208–210, 690–719)

The related Greater Incarnation Arts provide a broader set of incarnation methods. Nangong Wan uses them to seal her body in glacial qi, greatly slowing the Soul Seal Curse while help is sought. Much later she guides Zhu Guo'er in the art indirectly, concealing her own identity while transmitting a rare technique across realms. These uses show both defensive control over her bodily state and enough mastery to train another cultivator without openly exposing herself. (Chapters 719–728, 2244–2250, 2399–2400)

Divine Incarnation Light and combat arts

Divine Incarnation Light forms a rotating field that releases emerald radiance, restrains even a manifested Nascent Soul, and exerts a powerful bewitching effect on the target's mind. Against her senior martial sister, Nangong Wan uses it to secure escape without killing her. The technique also affects Han Li's concentration when he observes it, demonstrating that its mental influence is not limited to the intended prisoner. Its preparation can be interrupted, and Nangong must still combine it with formations and treasures in a contested battle. (Chapters 716–719)

She is also an accomplished sword cultivator and battlefield leader. In the forbidden area she coordinates other disciples, controls fire-based restraint, maintains movement while recovering magic power from a spirit stone, and adapts when the flood dragon breaks containment. Later her cultivation and two true-spirit cores bring her close to Grand Ascension, while the final chapter establishes stable peak High Zenith cultivation powered by reincarnation-law fluctuations. The intervening Immortal Realm attainments are not individually dated. (Chapters 181–210, 2399–2450, 3849)

Relationships

• Han Li: Her husband and Dao Companion. Their bond develops from a dangerous trial encounter into a freely chosen partnership that survives sect conflict, curse, ascension, reincarnation, and long separation.
• Reincarnation Palace Master: Gan Rushuang's former husband and the person who restores her past-life memories. His history with that incarnation is real, but Nangong Wan rejects his claim that it must determine her present marriage.
• Gan Jiuzhen: Gan Rushuang's daughter in Nangong Wan's prior life. Nangong's reincarnated identity makes the relationship meaningful without turning the present Han Li into Gan Jiuzhen's father.
• Zhu Guo'er: Nangong Wan covertly guides her cultivation of the Greater Incarnation Arts in Small Spirit Sky and entrusts her with part of the local human community's future.
• Masked Moon senior martial sister: She is both sect elder and coercive guardian. Nangong opposes her forced marriage plan but uses restraint rather than execution, preserving the relationship while breaking its control.

• Vermillion Bird Ring: Also translated locally as the Vermillion Bird Band, this fire treasure expands to building size, releases large-scale flames, restrains targets as a shrinking ring, and provides defense. Nangong Wan uses it extensively against the Inky Flood Dragon. (Chapters 207–209)
