Mo Guang

Mo Guang is a heavenly devil who transfers his service from the fallen true immortal Ma Liang to Han Li through a Heavenly Devil Contract. He appears as a black-robed man with ink-dark skin and commonly resides in Han's shadow. Relaxed, sardonic, and consistently conscious of his own interests, he supplies knowledge of the True Immortal Realm and real combat assistance in exchange for blood essence, protection, and passage upward rather than claiming sentimental loyalty. His development is defined by the pursuit of autonomy. A new Gray Immortal body gives him far greater combat power but never erases the mismatch between body and soul. When Han needs someone to delay the Great Encompassment cultivator Gui Mu, Mo Guang stakes that unstable power in one final bargain: if he survives fifteen minutes, the contract ends. Biography

A second heavenly-devil contract

Mo Guang emerges after Ma Liang's death, when the prior contract binding him loses force. He consumes the residual soul energy left by his former partner and proposes new terms to Han: service and knowledge in exchange for periodic blood essence and a route into the True Immortal Realm. He signs with both blood essence and spiritual sense, then immediately demonstrates practical value by disrupting an escape formation and supporting the cleanup of Ma Liang's remaining allies. The bargain is neither friendship nor enslavement. Mo Guang chooses the name by which Han addresses him and retains his own objectives, while Han's caution prevents either party from pretending trust is complete. Nevertheless, Mo Guang guards the Boundless Sea, attends Han's ascension tribulation, and enters the ascension passage with the group as black qi. He is initially difficult to sense after arrival, but later reappears from Han's shadow and advises the injured ascendant on the law chains sealing his nascent soul. (Chapters 2446, 2450–2451, 2500)

Adviser, body seeker, and temporary powerhouse

In the Immortal Realm, Mo Guang's experience with Ma Liang makes him a useful interpreter of unfamiliar pills, treasures, institutions, and devilish methods. His visible cultivation initially lags behind Han, Jin Tong, and Daoist Xie, a fact he notices with some discomfort, but he continues to contribute by identifying captured goods and explaining dangers. The contrast reinforces his pragmatism: while the others advance through cultivation or reconstruction, he searches for a compatible body that can transform his own prospects. (Chapters 2500, 2929)

Han eventually helps him integrate a powerful Gray Immortal corpse. Mo Guang briefly displays early-High Zenith strength, then admits that his True Immortal soul has attempted to occupy a body beyond its stable capacity. His aura falls as the fusion settles, eventually stabilizing at pinnacle Golden Immortal; secret techniques can still force short High Zenith bursts. The arrangement gives him a new home and formidable strength, but the instability remains a structural limitation rather than a solved advancement problem. (Chapters 3044–3081)

The bargain at the karmic fire passage

During the escape through the Infernal Region, Gui Mu blocks Han and Weeping Soul with Great Encompassment power. Mo Guang asks to be released and offers a sharply defined exchange: he will hold Gui Mu for fifteen minutes, accepting death if it comes, but the Heavenly Devil Contract must dissolve if he survives. Han agrees. Mo Guang's habitual nonchalance gives way to focus as he raises the Gray Immortal body to a late-High Zenith burst, cuts open the encirclement, and orders the others to flee. The following chapter preserves uncertainty instead of providing a death scene. After the passage collapses and Han reaches temporary safety, the spiritual connection to Mo Guang disappears completely. Han states that regardless of whether Mo Guang lived or died, he fulfilled the promise. This is the culmination of Mo Guang's autonomy arc: the service contract ends through an act that saves the group, but neither his survival nor any later allegiance is confirmed. (Chapter 3196)

Appearance and personality

Mo Guang generally manifests as a black-robed man whose skin is as dark as ink, rising directly from Han's shadow. His speech can initially sound mechanical, particularly while recovering after ascension, but he quickly resumes a more relaxed manner. He often wears a nonchalant or aloof expression, uses flattery when it is convenient, and reacts wryly to Han's suspicion or Jin Tong's open dislike. (Chapters 2500, 2929, 3044)

His defining trait is pragmatic self-interest disciplined by contracts. Mo Guang never forgets the unequal nature of his bond with Han and continually seeks an honorable way to regain freedom. At the same time, he does not betray the terms for an easy advantage: he provides the promised knowledge, fights when called upon, and finally risks himself against an enemy he knows he cannot defeat. Heavenly-devil nature and contracts

Mo Guang can exist as black qi or within another person's shadow, communicate through a spiritual connection, consume suitable soul energy, and formalize service through a Heavenly Devil Contract written in blood essence and spiritual sense. The contract gives Han leverage and a means of sensing him, but it is also a negotiated supernatural bond with explicit obligations. Gray Immortal body and baleful qi

After entering the Gray Immortal corpse, Mo Guang can absorb and manipulate baleful qi, use karmic fire in combat, and maintain a physically independent body. Soul and vessel do not naturally match: initial power fluctuates, Weeping Soul's abilities can suppress him, and his stable realm settles below the strongest bursts he can force from the corpse. The integration eventually produces a pinnacle Golden Immortal baseline with temporary High Zenith output rather than a clean, permanent High Zenith breakthrough. (Chapters 3044–3081)

Knowledge and battlefield support

Mo Guang's years with Ma Liang give him broad familiarity with Immortal Realm treasures, pills, cultivation states, and enemies. He helps Han sort Qu Ling's possessions and interprets problems that Daoist Xie or Han cannot immediately identify. In battle he can release concentrated baleful qi, command karmic fire, and cut through ghost-vine restrictions, but his strongest performance against Gui Mu is explicitly a temporary late-High Zenith surge purchased at great personal risk. • Han Li: Mo Guang chooses Han as his contractual partner after Ma Liang's death. Their relationship combines mutual utility, suspicion, and respect for explicit terms. • Jin Tong: Jin Tong openly distrusts and insults Mo Guang after their Immortal Realm reunion. He answers with ingratiating praise rather than confrontation, and they nevertheless fight on the same side when the group faces stronger enemies. • Daoist Xie: Mo Guang and Xie ascend with Han and later help him identify captured Immortal Realm materials.
