Jin Tong

Jin Tong is the sentient monarch that emerges from Han Li's Gold Devouring Beetles and becomes one of his closest companions. She begins as a formidable but largely nonverbal protector, develops a young girl's form and an irrepressible appetite in the Immortal Realm, and eventually reclaims the authority of the Gold Devouring lineage. Her bluntness, playfulness, and hunger coexist with fierce loyalty: she calls Han "Uncle," yet repeatedly acts on her own judgment rather than as a passive spirit pet. Jin Tong's recovered past-life name requires care. The Six Paths Reincarnation Plate reveals that the ancient female Gold Devouring Dao Ancestor was named Qu Lin, but the story also features a separate male Gold Devouring Immortal called Qu Lin, whom Jin Tong fights and devours. Jin Tong retains her present name until she can avenge the ancient Dao Ancestor, so the two active identities should not be treated as one body or one continuous present-day character. Biography

A monarch gains a name

Jin Tong first emerges as the completed Gold Devouring Beetle Monarch produced through Han Li's long cultivation of the beetle swarm. In the Small Asura Realm, Han gives the monarch the name Jin Tong after she independently kills hostile beasts and reports their movements to him. Although her speech is initially unintelligible to others, she understands orders, observes enemy weaknesses, and can make tactical decisions without constant direction, establishing a distinct mind rather than merely an advanced extension of the swarm. Her earliest actions center on protection, but they also show growing autonomy. Jin Tong decapitates an immortal-bodied enemy, recognizes that destroying the head exposes the nascent soul, returns the opponent's storage treasure to Han, and later guards Fairy Ice Soul's blood soul inside Heavenly Cauldron Palace. She follows Daoist Xie's technical instructions while secretly altering the Bipolar Destruction Formation, then fights beside Han and Daoist Xie during the Ma Liang crisis. These choices make her a trusted participant in coordinated plans, not simply a weapon released at the moment of combat. (Chapters 2324–2436)

When Han prepares to ascend from the Spirit Realm, Jin Tong remains among the small group closest to him and accompanies him through the ascension gate. The transition separates them during the attack that follows Han's arrival in the Immortal Realm, turning their established guardian-companion bond into a long search. Han thereafter treats finding Jin Tong as one of his major personal objectives, while her survival depends on exploiting the intentions of a much stronger member of her own species. Captivity, reunion, and voracious growth

In the Infernal Frost Immortal Manor, Jin Tong appears to be controlled by Qu Ling, but later reveals that she has been feigning submission so Qu Ling will continue feeding her valuable materials. When Han is threatened, Jin Tong breaks the control badge, intercepts Qu Ling, and tells Han to escape. Her deception demonstrates patience that contrasts with her childlike manner, and her choice to expose herself for Han's sake turns reunion into an act of protection rather than a rescue in which she remains passive. Afterward she adopts the form of an eight- or nine-year-old girl with golden hair, porcelain-like features, black pupils gleaming with gold, and golden armor. She calls Han Uncle, eats pills and treasures with almost comic enthusiasm, and treats Meng Qianqian as a junior martial sister. Han in turn regards her half as a child and half as a companion. Their domestic affection does not erase danger: her appetite is the biological engine of her advancement, and every increase in strength makes her more visible to rival Gold Devouring Immortals. Jin Tong advances with extraordinary speed by devouring resources that ordinary cultivators would refine through prolonged seclusion. High-grade treasures and pills carry her into the late-Golden Immortal level, while part of a Gold Devouring skeleton pushes her into High Zenith. She repeatedly shields Han from fatal attacks and helps the group cross the primordial land, but the pursuit by stronger members of her lineage eventually forces another separation. What begins as hunger-driven growth thus becomes a survival contest in which she must either devour her competitors or be devoured by them. (Chapters 2983–3060)

Past life, lineage war, and chosen family

Jin Tong later returns as a Great Encompassment cultivator engaged in the species-specific struggle that has followed her across the Immortal Realm. When the separate male Qu Lin attempts to consume her, Han intervenes long enough for her to reverse the fight; Jin Tong divides into a beetle swarm and devours him, converting a near defeat into further evolution. Her method does not follow the three-corpse path used by human cultivators, underscoring that the Gold Devouring lineage advances through its own devouring-based route. (Chapters 3699–3701, 3763)

The Six Paths Reincarnation Plate then exposes the deeper reason for her conflict. Jin Tong recovers memories of the ancient female Dao Ancestor Qu Lin, ruler of the arthropods, whom Xuanyuan Jie killed after she refused Heavenly Court. The revelation gives her hunger and rivalry a historical purpose: she chooses to remain Jin Tong until she has avenged that death, then gathers the surviving arthropod powers and hunts the remaining Great Encompassment Gold Devouring Immortals. Her followers call her Insect Ancestor, but she still answers Han with the same familiar attachment. (Chapters 3763–3793)

Jin Tong defeats Xuanyuan Jie while completing the Gold Devouring Dao Ancestor path, reclaiming the lineage authority that her prior incarnation lost. She then returns to the wider war and protects Han when his own power is depleted. Even after reaching the apex of her species, her concern focuses less on rank than on whether Han will be consumed by Heavenly Dao assimilation. She survives the collapse of the old order and waits beside Nangong Wan in the Extraheavensphere until Han returns, ending her story as both a Dao Ancestor and a voluntary member of the family she chose. Abilities and cultivation

Jin Tong follows the species-specific path of a Gold Devouring Immortal. Her body, devouring talent, and ability to divide into beetles are aspects of one evolving constitution rather than unrelated techniques. She grows mainly by consuming metals, treasures, pills, and other Gold Devouring beings, allowing unusually rapid advances but placing her in lethal competition with members of her own lineage. Her latest confirmed formal state is Gold Devouring Dao Ancestor. (Chapters 2303–2326, 2909–3043, 3699–3800)

Gold-devouring body and evolution

Jin Tong's beetle body is extraordinarily durable and can shrink to a grain-sized form for infiltration or expand into a massive combat form. She consumes physical matter and energy-bearing treasures, resists many direct attacks, and can transform between a unified body and a swarm of Gold Devouring Beetles. Division lets the swarm surround and consume enemies, but stronger members of the same species can attempt the same process against her; her battles with Qu Ling and the male Qu Lin show that near-indestructibility does not prevent restraint, injury, or capture. Devouring is also her advancement mechanism. Rather than merely replenishing energy, suitable prey and resources increase her cultivation and open further immortal acupoints. The gains can require digestion or seclusion, and the quality of what she consumes matters: palace treasures and pills produce one leap, a Gold Devouring skeleton another, and rival Great Encompassment Gold Devouring Immortals sustain her later rise. This route explains her speed without implying that every object is equally useful or that growth is risk-free. (Chapters 2983, 3043, 3701, 3763–3793)

Cutting power, speed, and spirit domain

In combat, Jin Tong produces exceptionally sharp translucent sword qi from her body and limbs. The attacks slice through treasures, defensive barriers, and powerful enemies, while her movement can resemble teleportation to slower observers. She combines these traits with direct physical attacks, web-like fields of golden threads, and the ability to decapitate or dismember foes before consuming them. Her early victories against Grand Ascension enemies already approach true-immortal threat levels, but Immortal Realm opponents with stronger law powers can still bind or suppress her. Her later golden spirit domain manifests the metal-aligned power of the Gold Devouring path on a much larger scale. It can form blades, constrain enemy movement, and support the swarm's devouring attacks. Against superior rivals, the domain alone is insufficient, and Han's time-law intervention is decisive in her victory over the male Qu Lin. At Dao Ancestor level, however, the same lineage power supports her confrontation with Xuanyuan Jie and establishes her as the renewed sovereign of the arthropods. (Chapters 3699–3701, 3793–3800)

Instinct, intelligence, and protective combat

Jin Tong's early reserve can make her seem mechanical, but she repeatedly demonstrates independent perception. She identifies how to finish an immortal-bodied opponent, follows complicated formation instructions, deceives Qu Ling over an extended period, and recognizes when to expose herself to protect Han. Her impulsiveness and appetite can create risk, yet they coexist with cunning, combat awareness, and a willingness to pursue goals while separated from her guardian. Her most consistent tactical role is interception. Jin Tong places her durable body between enemies and allies, attacks pursuers before they can reach Han, and protects companions who cannot withstand the same level of force. This specialization interacts particularly well with Han's time laws and Daoist Xie's planning: they can create openings or impose control while she supplies speed, resilience, and lethal cutting power. The coordination is powerful but explicitly collective, as shown against Ma Liang, Qu Lin, Xuanyuan Jie, and the final Heavenly Court forces. (Chapters 2417–2436, 2909–2910, 3699–3800, 3834–3846)

• Han Li: Han nurtures the beetle swarm from which Jin Tong emerges and gives her a personal name, but their relationship grows beyond ownership. She calls him Uncle, he treats her partly as a child, and both repeatedly endanger themselves to protect the other. Her Dao Ancestor advancement never replaces this chosen-family bond. • Daoist Xie: Daoist Xie directs Jin Tong during the Bipolar Destruction Formation operation and fights beside her during the Ma Liang crisis. They ascend with Han and remain dependable members of the same small companion group, although their later paths diverge as Daoist Xie pursues puppetry and Jin Tong pursues the Gold Devouring lineage. • Qu Ling: Qu Ling attempts to control and feed Jin Tong for her own purposes. Jin Tong pretends to submit so she can consume the supplied resources, then breaks the badge and turns on Qu Ling when Han is endangered. Their struggle is one of the first demonstrations that Jin Tong can use patience and deception rather than appetite alone. (Chapters 2909–2910)
• Qu Lin: The male Gold Devouring Immortal Qu Lin is a present-day rival distinct from the female ancient Dao Ancestor whose past-life name Jin Tong recovers. He tries to devour Jin Tong, but Han's intervention allows her to consume him instead. The shared name is an identity ambiguity, not evidence that these two bodies are the same character. • Xuanyuan Jie: Xuanyuan Jie killed the ancient female Qu Lin and persecuted her arthropod followers. Recovering that memory gives Jin Tong a personal and lineage-wide motive for revenge; defeating him allows her to become the Gold Devouring Dao Ancestor and restore the status of the beings he scattered. • Nangong Wan: Jin Tong's jealousy when Han reunites with important women is usually playful, but by the final war she treats Nangong Wan as family worth protecting.
