Kim Yu-Rin

Kim Yu-Rin is one of South Korea's foremost Knights and a long-serving captain of the Raven Knights Order. Her career is defined by an unusual combination of battlefield command, the condition-setting Trait Desideratum, and a willingness to protect people whom official institutions treat as expendable. That last quality draws her repeatedly toward the Hero Orc who is secretly Kim Sae-Jin, making her relationship with his human and Monster identities central to her public career and private life.

Biography

Awakening and early survival

Yu-Rin first enters the story as the badly wounded target of a succession struggle within Raven. Her father, Order Master Kim Hyun-Seok, is approaching retirement, and conspirators seeking to prevent Yu-Rin from succeeding him sabotage her Mana armour, weapons, and seven teleportation scrolls before leaving her to a Sabretooth Tiger. Sae-Jin, then in his Goblin form, finds her at the edge of death and carries her to his cave, where his potion saves her life. (Chapter 4)

Waking beside an intelligent Goblin initially strains even Yu-Rin's composure, but she quickly moves from disbelief to analysis. She recognizes that the failed equipment was coordinated sabotage rather than bad luck, concludes that several people inside her own organization must be involved, and sees tactical value in letting the plotters continue to believe she is dead. Her response establishes the pattern that defines her command: shock and fear are real, yet they are rapidly subordinated to evidence, survival, and the chance to protect the Order from a deeper threat. Yu-Rin subsequently reaches Highest Tier, adding formal status to the reputation she already possesses. Her advancement also reveals the institutional life around her: Kim Soo-Gyeom, her direct apprentice and junior for two years, celebrates the promotion alongside other Knights, while Yu-Rin continues taking responsibility for Raven's future rather than treating rank as a personal prize. When Raven begins losing ground to the Dawn Order, she admits her own earlier misjudgment of alchemy spending and assigns Soo-Gyeom to investigate the Goblin Alchemist connection before the strategic disadvantage becomes permanent. Her public duties broaden from internal leadership to judging major competitions, negotiating talent recruitment, and managing large-scale disasters. She identifies the growth potential of an Orc-made weapon at a blacksmithing tournament, handles the star-struck Yu Sae-Jung with warmth, and later explains to Sae-Jin that her expected succession as Raven's Master prevents her from joining a private Society. During the Basilisk emergency, she initially confronts the Hero Orc but immediately accepts him as an ally when civilians and subordinate Knights are endangered, shielding him from acidic Breath until exhaustion ends the battle. Red Moon and unstable evolution

Before the Red Moon, Yu-Rin studies the planned defensive lines closely enough to challenge the wisdom of using Hero Orcs as a living inner wall. Once the event begins, she steadies the frightened Sae-Jung by holding her hand despite sharing the same fear, then meets the first wave with blue sword aura and disciplined line control. Against a Lich, she invokes Desideratum through a reverse-gripped strike into the ground, manifesting an enormous blade over the chosen target and following the bisection with a secondary explosion. (Chapters 75–76)

The arrival of the Hero Orcs relieves pressure on the human line but costs roughly half of their own force. Yu-Rin does not treat those deaths as the acceptable expenditure implied by the original plan: she personally approaches the grieving Chieftain and offers condolences after the fighting. That exchange, and his unexpectedly gentle pat on her head, shifts the Hero Orc in her mind from a powerful battlefield asset into an individual whose restraint, sorrow, and concern she can recognize. It also gives emotional weight to the ordeal that follows. (Chapter 76)

Yu-Rin, Yi Hye-Rin, and thirty-six other Knights are then sealed inside an engineered isolation cave where Mana cannot be used and cold becomes as lethal as the attackers. The Hero Orc provides warmth and protection, blocks a Vampire-made creature, and finally reveals that he can speak before throwing Yu-Rin toward the exit. She refuses to abandon him at first, repeatedly tries to force Mana through the suppression, and must be dragged onward by Hye-Rin; once outside the trap, she channels that helpless anger into clearing a path through the Monster field for the survivors. Her father's rare, direct thanks after the rescue moves her to tears, but relief does not erase her concern for the Orc left behind. Hye-Rin, who has known her for ten years, recognizes that Yu-Rin's longing is unprecedented. Yu-Rin begins visiting the Hero Orc village until she finds him again, places herself between him and another drawn sword, and proposes regular sparring that will improve them both while preparing her to lead Raven. Their matches progress from her advantage to repeated draws, and the bond becomes a private source of both growth and emotional uncertainty. (Chapters 80, 89, and 93)

Vampire schemes and Jin Seh-Hahn

At the Knight academy, Yu-Rin observes the mysterious Jin Seh-Hahn rather than condemning him solely because his background cannot be verified. She values the way he cooperates with and protects less experienced cadets, while still asking Hye-Rin to watch him for anything dangerous. That balanced judgment is important because Jin is another of Sae-Jin's constructed identities: Yu-Rin responds to demonstrated conduct instead of prestige, and her professional approval helps an invented Knight leave a real school and legacy behind. (Chapter 98)

The Vampire threat turns Sae-Jin's secrecy into a direct wound. After learning that Yu-Rin ranks second on a Vampire kill list and that her solitary visits make her easy to ambush, he uses the Hero Orc identity to drive her away without explanation. He tells her he is bored of her, attacks when she demands a reason, and has the village treat her as an intruder. Yu-Rin leaves injured and furious, unable to know that the cruelty is a protection strategy, while the hidden motive makes their later reunions more confused rather than less. (Chapter 104)

Meanwhile, Yu-Rin's old sword deteriorates during the escalating Monster crises, and her father urges her to seek a replacement from Sae-Jin. The resulting conferment gives her Gungnir, a Treasure-grade weapon built specifically for her Desideratum: it can serve as either sword or spear and fire highly accurate light attacks. During the unveiling, however, she recognizes the same unconscious maker's insignia she has seen on the Hero Orc's mace. The evidence does not yet overcome the apparent impossibility that a human and an Orc might be the same person, but it plants a suspicion the Vampire Lord will later force into the open. When a Giant Swan grows stronger from every injury inflicted on it, Yu-Rin orders her twelve-Knight team to retreat rather than feed its evolution. Its cry bypasses Mana barriers, disrupts circulation, and leaves the Knights bleeding, so she converts Gungnir to spear form and weighs the remaining Mana against possible Desideratum conditions before attacking. The Hero Orc and Cornlak arrive during that crisis, and Yu-Rin runs toward them even as the Swan's next evolution detonates the battlefield. The Orc pulls her into his protection, and both fall into the newly opened depths below. (Chapter 126)

Nosferatu alliance and Bathory conflict

The underground aftermath strips Yu-Rin of the power on which her career depends. Parasitic Mana from the Swan blocks her circulation, leaving her unable to reinforce her body or use Desideratum normally. The Orc builds shelter, provides food and water, and summons Cornlak, while Yu-Rin studies the similar habits and smithing marks shared by him and Sae-Jin. When the Swan's offspring drains even her stored Mana and blood, Gungnir still disperses an initial Breath without her Mana, but she survives only because the Orc makes and feeds her an artificial Mana Stone. (Chapters 127–129)

Recovery takes a week in the cavern, during which Yu-Rin experiences something almost absent from her command career: being cared for without having to care for everyone else first. She worries about her subordinates, questions the Orc about why he rejected her, grows attached to Cornlak, and dreads the rescue that will separate them. When descending Knights prepare to kill both Monsters, she identifies him publicly as the Hero Orc and prevents the attack. That decision confirms that her loyalty now rests on conduct and shared danger, not the human-Monster boundary alone. (Chapters 128–129)

Months later, a long post-operation leave has not dulled her sense of responsibility. When Hye-Rin reveals that Sae-Jin has been kidnapped by Bathory and that his Trait permits a transformation into the Azure Dragon, Yu-Rin immediately joins the rescue effort, even though the disclosure also revives her suspicions about the Orc. She returns to active duty, helps plan the capture of a Vampire Elder with Nosferatu assistance, and insists that Sae-Jung be told the truth about the danger rather than protected through ignorance. Personal anger, including her unresolved history with Hazeline, is ultimately made secondary to recovering Sae-Jin. (Chapters 141–142)

The rescue team breaks Bathory's isolation barrier by combining its specialties and attacks while Hazeline suppresses the Vampire's Mana. Yu-Rin joins the initial strike with Gungnir, worries for Hye-Rin when Bathory throws her aside, and continues fighting after a blow leaves Yu-Rin with a shattered arm and internal injuries. Her clash with Bathory raises the dust cover Sae-Jin needs to teleport the group away. Even while wounded, she first supports his exhausted Leviathan form; only afterward does his restorative Mana make her recognize how severely her own arm has been broken. (Chapter 145)

Exhibition, Fissure war, and aftermath

Yu-Rin's decisive institutional break comes when the government abandons the Hero Orc village to an approaching Three-Headed Ogre. She disobeys orders, goes alone, and offers the Orcs her command experience. With Cornlak as her mount, she organizes traps, drills the defenders, isolates the Boss, and attempts to impose one minute of unconsciousness through Desideratum. The condition proves too costly and consumes half her Mana before she cancels it, so she instead fires Gungnir's concentrated beam through the Ogre's heart while Sae-Jin delivers the finishing physical strike. Her choice saves the village but earns a disciplinary record that ends her expected Raven succession and threatens her Highest Tier position. (Chapters 147 and 149)

Rather than retreat from public life, Yu-Rin asks to enter The Monster Guild and accepts that she must compete in its Exhibition. Membership turns the sacrifice into a new role: Sae-Jin increasingly relies on her mission experience and judgment, and she becomes more relaxed once the Order Master succession no longer defines her future. Her relationships also begin to heal. She speaks privately with Hazeline about their past, later supports her as Tower Lord, and integrates Cornlak into the Guild's sense of family even when Bathory tries to claim him. (Chapters 149, 158, and 160)

During the assault on the Vampire Lord's domain, Yu-Rin and Sae-Jin take the most dangerous route because she judges them the strongest pair. The Lord exposes that Sae-Jin and the Hero Orc are the same being, validating the smithing marks and behavioral similarities Yu-Rin had suppressed. She insists on a direct answer but accepts a promise of explanation long enough to finish the mission, then sets Desideratum to “pierce through everything”; the resulting Gungnir beam passes through the summoned defenders and destroys the Lord's arm. Her ability to keep fighting through betrayal helps convert a destabilizing secret into an eventually forgiven partnership. (Chapters 155–156)

The final Fissure crisis ends the world in which Yu-Rin built her identity. After Bahamut defeats the Dimensional Devourer, Traits disappear while Mana and Monsters remain, and Monsters become creatures to manage rather than exterminate. Yu-Rin leaves knighthood without regret, succeeds in variety programs and acting, and continues advocating for the Hero Orcs as an “Orc Enthusiast.” She remains a member of The Monster, attends its annual gatherings during Sae-Jin's absence, and joins the others who move close to the amnesiac man believed to be him. Her latest state is therefore civilian but not disconnected: she retains her Guild family, public influence, and commitment to the Orc community. (Chapters 172 and 174)

Appearance and personality

Yu-Rin is a strikingly beautiful human woman whose appearance is refined enough to be mistaken for an Elf. She is 168 centimetres tall, with pale, smooth skin, carefully defined features, an elegant voice, and long hair described as falling like silk. In combat and official settings, that beauty is framed by a disciplined posture, practiced Mana reinforcement, armour, and the controlled bearing expected of a nationally ranked Knight. The contrast becomes especially visible when a crisis ends and her stern field presence gives way to embarrassment or an unexpectedly bright smile. (Chapters 4, 65, 141, 147, and 155)

Her defining personality trait is responsibility. Yu-Rin habitually places civilians, subordinates, and the integrity of her command ahead of personal comfort, whether that means examining sabotage while still recovering, exhausting herself to shield an ally from Basilisk Breath, or accepting discipline to keep Hero Orcs from being sacrificed. She is observant and strategically minded, but not infallible: she can misjudge institutional priorities, react too emotionally when people she loves are threatened, and persist in a course after its personal cost becomes obvious. (Chapters 5, 30, 65, 126, and 147–149)

Away from command, Yu-Rin is more awkward and playful than her reputation suggests. She likes cute dolls and fluffy creatures, becomes transparently attached to Cornlak, eats with an enthusiasm that undermines her dignified image, and is easily flustered by affection, age jokes, or her own romantic uncertainty. These qualities do not replace her discipline; they show how much of her public severity is a professional habit. After giving up the Raven succession burden, she becomes more openly sociable, embraces social media and entertainment work, and handles teasing with far greater ease. (Chapters 5, 121, 128, 141, 161, and 172)

Traits and abilities

Desideratum

Desideratum lets Yu-Rin attach a stated purpose or special condition to an attack. Within the limits of her available Mana, that condition is made real for at least a moment: she can demand that a Leviathan faint for five minutes, designate a Lich for a large remote strike, or make a beam pierce through everything between her and the Vampire Lord. The Trait therefore converts precise intent into an enforced battlefield result rather than simply multiplying physical force. The corpus introduces it as an ability she already possesses and does not establish when or how it first manifested. (Chapters 41, 76, and 156)

The price depends on the demanded outcome and the target resisting it. Knocking a summoned Leviathan unconscious for five minutes consumes roughly half her reserve, and her attempt to impose only one minute of unconsciousness on the Three-Headed Ogre begins draining her entire supply; aborting still leaves her at half strength. She must compare the desired condition against her current Mana before committing, and an impossible demand can waste combat power without producing the result. Desideratum also cannot solve ordinary vulnerability: Mana suppression, parasitic blockage, sonic disruption, blood loss, and post-use dizziness can all prevent or punish its use. After the final Fissure battle, all Traits vanish. Desideratum is consequently no longer available in Yu-Rin's latest state, and her decision to leave knighthood follows the larger change in the relationship between people and Monsters rather than an attempt to rebuild her former rank without it. The corpus does not establish whether any residual condition previously placed through Desideratum survives independently of the vanished Trait. (Chapter 172)

Knight training and Mana control

Even without a special condition, Yu-Rin is an elite melee combatant. She projects blue or golden-edged weapon aura, reinforces herself with a Mana barrier, reads Monster behavior during chaotic raids, and changes between direct sword forms, reverse-gripped techniques, and spear thrusts. Her formal standing reaches Highest Tier; around the Basilisk incident she is identified as ninth in South Korea and thirty-third globally, and later Hero Orc sparring raises her to a career-best fiftieth in the world under a different ranking reference. These numbers describe separate moments rather than one fixed lifetime placement. (Chapters 65 and 104)

Her combat judgment is as important as raw output. Yu-Rin recognizes when attacks are feeding the Giant Swan's growth, orders retreat before pride produces more casualties, and continues calculating Mana and Trait options while a sonic cry disrupts her body. She can also fight through severe trauma long enough to preserve a team: during the Bathory rescue she remains active after internal bleeding and a shattered arm, and against the Boss Ogre she replaces a failed Desideratum condition with a conventional maximum-output beam. (Chapters 126, 145, and 149)

Mana remains a dependency rather than an inexhaustible resource. Barriers can be bypassed by sound, a Monster's parasitic Mana can stop circulation completely, and a rapid maximum extraction can leave her collapsed with pain around the heart. Her week underground demonstrates the dividing line most clearly: training and courage remain, and Gungnir can still intercept one attack through its own quality, but she cannot match her normal physical strength or sustain her Knight techniques until medical treatment restores Mana flow. (Chapters 126–129)

Command and battlefield leadership

Yu-Rin has spent years leading mixed-strength Knight teams and is trusted to evaluate threats, create defensive plans, and keep less experienced fighters functional under fear. She balances a commander's broad view with personal intervention: she takes the exposed position against the Basilisk, guides the isolated Knights out of the Red Moon trap, and forms a twelve-person High Tier unit on short notice for the Giant Swan. Her leadership is strongest when information is incomplete because she revises plans quickly instead of defending a failed assumption. (Chapters 65, 78–79, and 126)

Her command is not limited to humans. At the Hero Orc village, she reduces a complex Ogre threat to a clear objective, trains the Orc force, builds traps around their capabilities, and coordinates Cornlak, the Chieftain, and rank-and-file warriors against the Boss. Sae-Jin later treats her experience and reliability as uniquely valuable inside The Monster Guild. This adaptability is also a moral ability: Yu-Rin earns cooperation by acknowledging the Orcs as thinking allies with lives worth protecting, rather than merely issuing effective orders. Kim Sae-Jin

Yu-Rin first knows Sae-Jin through separate human, Goblin, and Hero Orc encounters without realizing they belong to one person. The Goblin saves her life, the human becomes a professional contact and crafts Gungnir, and the Orc becomes her battlefield equal, sparring partner, rescuer, and object of confused affection. His concealment repeatedly hurts her, especially when he drives her from the Orc village and when the Vampire Lord reveals the truth. She nevertheless finishes the mission beside him, later forgives the deception, and becomes one of the Guild colleagues whose judgment he trusts most.

Yu Sae-Jung

Sae-Jung admires Yu-Rin as a famous senior Knight, while Yu-Rin treats her with a mixture of mentorship, warmth, and protective directness. She holds Sae-Jung's hand during the Red Moon, steadies her fear, and later insists that she be told when Sae-Jin is kidnapped because a partner has the right to understand the danger. Their friendship acquires comic romantic tension once Yu-Rin's attachment to Sae-Jin's Orc identity becomes harder to dismiss, but Yu-Rin remains part of Sae-Jung's trusted Guild circle after the war.

Yi Hye-Rin

Hye-Rin is a long-serving colleague who has known Yu-Rin for at least ten years and continues to address her as Captain. She pulls Yu-Rin out of the Red Moon isolation trap, reads emotional changes that Yu-Rin tries to hide, and recruits her into the Bathory rescue. Yu-Rin in turn protects and worries over Hye-Rin in combat, corrects her when operational secrecy becomes unfair to Sae-Jung, and relies on her quick judgment in both Raven and Guild affairs. Their familiarity also lets Hye-Rin tease the otherwise imposing Knight with unusual freedom.

Kim Hyun-Seok

Hyun-Seok is Yu-Rin's father, Raven's Order Master, and the institutional standard against which much of her early life is measured. His impending retirement makes her the target of a succession conspiracy, while his rarity of praise gives his thanks after the Red Moon exceptional emotional force. They share tactical duties and a dry, familial humor around weapons and age, but the government Order's rules ultimately separate their paths when Yu-Rin accepts discipline for defending the Orc village and loses the future he had expected her to inherit.

Kim Soo-Gyeom

Soo-Gyeom is Yu-Rin's junior and direct apprentice for two years. His presence at her Highest Tier advancement reflects the training relationship behind her public rank, and she later assigns him sensitive investigative work when Raven needs to understand the Goblin Alchemist connection. Their relationship shows Yu-Rin as an institutional mentor rather than only a solitary prodigy: she delegates consequential work, expects discretion, and treats the strategic standing of their Order as a responsibility shared across generations of Knights.

Cornlak

Cornlak begins as the enormous wolf mount accompanying the Hero Orc but quickly becomes one of Yu-Rin's most openly cherished companions. She discovers his gentleness underground, uses him as an emotional refuge, rides him while commanding the Ogre battle, and survives the final blast because he rescues her. Inside The Monster, she calls him family and opposes Bathory's attempt to take him with more passion than caution. Her enduring work as an Orc enthusiast extends the same refusal to reduce intelligent Monsters to disposable assets.

Gungnir

Gungnir is Yu-Rin's Treasure-grade primary weapon, commissioned from Kim Sae-Jin after her long-serving sword White Night becomes damaged. It normally functions as a sword but can transform into a spear, channel highly accurate light attacks, and release a concentrated golden-white beam. Sae-Jin tailors those functions to Desideratum so that precise purposes can ride on precise attacks. The weapon also bears his unconscious smithing insignia, which becomes one of Yu-Rin's earliest clues connecting him to the Hero Orc. (Chapters 120–121, 126, and 149)

Gungnir has substantial independent quality but is not a substitute for Yu-Rin's Mana. It disperses the newborn Swan's first Breath even while her circulation is blocked, yet her strongest beams and condition-setting attacks still draw heavily on her own reserve. Its sword-to-spear conversion supports close combat, thrusting, and ranged line attacks without requiring her to change equipment. The corpus does not specify Gungnir's final custody or whether all of its Trait-linked functions remain usable after Traits disappear, so its post-crisis operational state is unknown.
