Gungnir

Gungnir is a Treasure-grade transforming weapon crafted by Kim Sae-Jin for Kim Yu-Rin. It preserves her preferred sword form, converts into a spear, channels the “purposes” imposed by her Trait, and releases precise light or energy attacks whose demonstrated power ranges from severing limbs to piercing a Boss Monster's heart.

History

Commission and conferment

Yu-Rin acquires Gungnir after her father urges her to replace a damaged, thirty-year-old sword with a weapon from Sae-Jin. The commission leaves her in substantial debt, but Raven breaks with its own tradition and holds a public conferment ceremony because Sae-Jin is the maker and the new weapon is expected to be a Treasure. Before its unveiling, Yu-Rin explains that its name evokes a spear even though her main weapon is a sword: Sae-Jin has made it able to serve as both and to fire multiple highly accurate light arrows compatible with her Trait. This tailoring, rather than the borrowed mythological name alone, defines its role as her personal armament. (Chapter 120)

Field use against monsters and vampires

Gungnir first appears in combat as a sword that Yu-Rin can immediately change into a spear when a Giant Swan evolves during battle. Even when the surrounding attack disrupts Mana, she maintains enough control to prepare the weapon, and a later encounter shows its unaided blade generating a golden cut that cancels a young Monster's Breath while Yu-Rin has no Mana support. Against vampires, its golden sword light severs an arm quickly enough to stop teleportation, removes a second arm, and supports the purpose Yu-Rin places through her Trait. She also judges it capable of breaking Bathory's isolation barrier, though the supplied scene records that assessment rather than a completed breach. (Chapters 126, 128–129, 142, and 144–145)

During the Boss Ogre battle, Yu-Rin shifts the pure-white blade into spear form and first tries to impose one minute of unconsciousness. External Mana drain makes that purpose unsustainable and costs much of her reserve, so she abandons it and channels her remaining Mana into a direct piercing attack. Gungnir resonates, shines gold, and fires a near-instant white beam through the Ogre's heart; Sae-Jin's simultaneous strike is still required to overcome the creature's vitality. Later, Gungnir remains her chosen weapon against the Vampire Lord, where a reverse-grip energy beam empowered by a “pierce through everything” purpose passes through summoned Monsters and destroys the Lord's arm. (Chapters 149 and 155–156)

Abilities and properties

  • Transforming configuration: Gungnir normally functions as Yu-Rin's sword and can morph its blade into a spear-like form. The change supports thrusting or ranged piercing applications without forcing a career swordswoman to adopt a permanently unfamiliar weapon. The source does not state the transformation speed, size change, moving parts, or whether another wielder can trigger it. (Chapters 120, 126, and 149)
  • Light projectiles: Sae-Jin describes the weapon as able to fire several highly accurate light arrows. Demonstrated attacks include golden sword light and narrow white energy beams that travel effectively instantaneously over battlefield distances, cut vampire limbs, cancel a Breath, and pierce a Boss Ogre's heart. The corpus does not give a maximum range, projectile count in a single volley, or independent targeting mechanism. (Chapters 120, 128–129, 142, 149, and 156)
  • Trait interaction: Gungnir is tailored to carry the “purpose” selected through Yu-Rin's Trait, including muting a target, imposing unconsciousness, or piercing through everything. This lets weapon shape, Mana, and intention combine in a single attack. The effect is not automatic: Yu-Rin must choose and sustain the purpose, and hostile interference with her Mana can force her to abandon it. (Chapters 120, 142, 149, and 156)
  • Inherent power: The sword can still release enough golden force to collapse a Monster Breath when Yu-Rin cannot use Mana, showing that at least some performance resides in the weapon itself. The exact stored power source and recharge condition are not explained. (Chapters 128–129)
  • Mana cost and limits: Its strongest beams draw on Yu-Rin's Mana and do not guarantee a solo kill. During the Ogre battle, abnormal external drain removes half her reserve before the first purpose can activate, and the later heart-piercing shot requires Sae-Jin's follow-up to finish the target. Gungnir can clash with Bathory's bare fist, but the weapon does not negate her physical superiority or protect its wielder from counterattack. (Chapters 145 and 149)
  • Latest state: Gungnir remains intact and in Yu-Rin's hands during the attack on the Vampire Lord. The supplied item sources record no later transfer, destruction, upgrade, or further use after that battle. (Chapters 155–156)
