Biography

Engineering Chongming's chaos

Pei first rises to third place as Fourth Prince Gu Shiming's adviser, a position closely aligned with the prince's rebellious ambitions. He uses false identities and Du Ge's name to recruit helpers while shielding the prince from suspicion, then changes sides within the Chongming court as instability grows. The expanding disorder elevates him above Shi Pingchuan, and as right prime minister he defeats the prince's coup, kills Shi, and overcomes six grandmasters—turning a crisis he helped cultivate into proof of his own power. (Chapters 328–331, 361)

At Dongling Pass, Pei attempts to let Du Ge's allies destroy one another by forcing the battlefield into irrational conflict. The effect works, but Du Ge is already charging toward him and remains able to complete the attack despite his confused mind. Pei is caught by the same emotional disorder he unleashes and is killed by the Admonition Cane, ending his rise and removing one of the battlefield's most dangerous top-ranked contestants. Pei's actions and growth identify his keyword with Chaos: coups, defections, factional conflict, and general disorder increase his attributes until he can kill grandmasters and reach second place. His demonstrated control skill spreads mental confusion and aggression through a crowd, causing friends and enemies to misidentify targets and attack irrationally.
