Lin Qian

Lin Qian is Kun Lun's foremost disciple and eventual sect leader, a sword xiu whose personal development becomes inseparable from his sect's bid to dominate the changing world. He first approaches Zuo Mo as a courteous traveler while secretly investigating the Stars in Daytime apparition. That concealed inquiry develops into a long rivalry: Lin Qian repeatedly identifies Zuo Mo, Wei Sheng, and Mo Cloud Sea as strategic threats, while they come to regard him as the human face of Kun Lun's ambitions and its destruction of Wu Kong Sword Sect. Biography

The hidden observer of Sky Moon Jie

Lin Qian enters Sky Moon Jie under the appearance of a knowledgeable but harmless traveler. His chance meeting with Zuo Mo is cordial, yet his real attention is fixed on the Stars in Daytime phenomenon near Wu Kong Mountain. He watches Wu Kong Sword Sect from nearby peaks, follows traces left when Pu Yao takes control of Zuo Mo, and confronts another masked search party after judging that the presence he sensed is connected to the apparition. These choices establish his method early: conceal his rank, collect information personally, and postpone a confrontation when the unknown force is stronger than his present certainty. (Chapters 62–78)

During the Sword Test Conference, Lin Qian moves through Dong Fu's institutions with authority that his traveler's manner does not explain. He recognizes Su, proves standing through a Heart Lake Pendant, and helps her secure Zuo Mo's forging work by suggesting a double Four-Turn Fire formation. He then watches Zuo Mo's progress, recognizes the Five Colored Pagoda in the conference formation, and continues treating the apparently minor disciple as an object of investigation rather than open hostility. His assistance is genuine in the immediate scenes, but it also gives him a closer view of Zuo Mo's unusual mixture of formations, forging, and combat. (Chapters 130–161)

When the yaomo invasion reaches Sky Moon Jie, Lin Qian arranges passage for Wu Kong Sword Sect to Bright Wave Jie and tells Pei Yuan Ran that his interest is an investment in Wei Sheng's potential. He later returns with an elite force, uses the sword cave as a concealed base, and follows the yao investigation from Wu Kong Mountain toward Little Mountain Jie. The cost of Kun Lun's larger strategy becomes clear to the survivors: Sky Moon Jie and neighboring territories have served as bait, while Lin Qian's powerful escort was preserved for other purposes. When his identity as Kun Lun's eldest disciple is finally exposed, the respect he once showed Wei Sheng cannot prevent the surviving Wu Kong disciples from treating Kun Lun as an enemy. Great Peace City and the stele mission

Lin Qian enters Great Peace City with a small group of Kun Lun yuanying experts to seize the Great Peace Mo Skill Stele, whose contents may provide a key to cultivating shen power. The death of his scout Fei Fei confirms that other shen-power users are already present, but Lin Qian refuses to abandon the mission. He steadies his shaken followers by framing the danger as part of Kun Lun's accumulated prosperity and future survival, then leads them openly once the treasure pavilion rises. His command style combines personal example with institutional devotion: he flies first, and his disciples accept death rather than disrupt his formation. (Chapters 615–624)

The battle reveals the scale and the limits of Lin Qian's pre-shen cultivation. With Tai'a, he cleaves through Yu Shuang's Green Flower Rain and wounds the second-ranked fighter on the Great Peace Mo Ranking in one move. He then holds off three hidden experts and combines seven disciples' swords into a rotating sword wheel. When Zuo Mo and his allies block the route to the stele, Lin Qian uses a secret method that wounds him and destroys Tai'a to release his strongest strike. Zuo Mo stops it with the Anti Dragon Claw; the stele crumbles, and Lin Qian leaves after acknowledging both his failed mission and the opponent who overturned his confidence. (Chapters 621–627)

Failure does not turn Lin Qian away from either Kun Lun or Zuo Mo. Instead, he treats the encounter as evidence that the age is changing and that Kun Lun must change with it. He also becomes increasingly alarmed by Wei Sheng, whose sword resolve and hostility toward Kun Lun make him a threat that Lin Qian wants removed before it matures. His master rebukes that fixation as a sign that Lin Qian lacks confidence in his own strength, orders him to stop dispersing his attention across sect affairs, and sends him to cultivate Kun Lun's newly formed shen methodology until he reaches earth level. Lin Qian receives the first opportunity because he contributed most to the methodology's creation. (Chapters 674, 684, 720–735)

Shen power, the Sword Pavilion, and succession

Kun Lun rebuilds Lin Qian's body through its cultivation resources, allowing shen power to circulate naturally with his intent and merge directly with sword essence. His first test cuts through a sword-testing stone that the sect leader cannot sever with ordinary ling power, but it also melts the seventh-grade Heaven's Death sword. From this result Lin Qian identifies both a progression rule and a practical limit: Kun Lun's shen power is founded on ling power and sword essence, so jindan and yuanying disciples are better candidates than fanxu experts whose completed paths resist transformation; ordinary high-grade swords cannot reliably carry the new power. His insight and responsibility for the methodology lead to his appointment as Sword Pavilion Master and declared successor. (Chapters 684, 735)

Lin Qian builds the Sword Pavilion as both an advisory circle and the future center of Kun Lun. He selects Xue Dong for military command and the obscure, weakly cultivated Chao Xin for strategic analysis, listening to Chao Xin even when the younger disciple contradicts an obvious invasion plan. Under this leadership Kun Lun expands, infiltrates rival institutions, and remains more unified than the other great sects. The succession becomes final after Lin Qian's master returns mortally wounded from an ancient ruin: the sect leader entrusts Kun Lun to him, then offers his own soul to strengthen the ancient Immemorial Shen Sword that he recovered for his disciple. (Chapters 735, 756–763, 781–797)

Possession of the Immemorial Sword gives Lin Qian a strategic weapon, but not unlimited freedom. At the Central Plains he waits while Tian Huan's Chief Elder and Mo Cloud Sea exhaust one another, prepared to assassinate Zhong De or strike whichever survivor best serves Kun Lun. The Chief Elder's unexpected ascent to god-level and decision to destroy the entire jie ruins that calculation. Lin Qian can save only himself: he burns part of his shen power, lets the Immemorial Sword consume it to cut through the void, and abandons the Children of Kun Lun who cannot follow. The escape leaves serious wounds, while the glimpse of controlled burning shows him the threshold he must cross to become god-level. He consequently remains in seclusion for ten years. God-level rivalry and Kun Lun's last campaign

Lin Qian emerges from seclusion at god-level, and Kun Lun publicizes the breakthrough to consolidate its position. In the opening campaign against Mo Cloud Sea's allies, he uses the mobility and resistance to ordinary massed attacks of his new rank as a decapitation weapon. He corners Gu Liang Dao, cuts through Gu Liang Dao's entire battalion, and survives its deliberate self-destruction, though the accumulated blast and Shuang Yu's final attack break his defenses and inflict a light wound. That small injury becomes decisive when Wei Sheng arrives at the same rank. Lin Qian cannot manipulate him into a nominally fair sword duel, and Wei Sheng's purer sword focus gradually turns the wound into a losing disadvantage. (Chapters 892, 899, 902–907)

Wei Sheng defeats Lin Qian and then cuts down Kun Lun's main peak while Mo Cloud Sea's battalions devastate Kun Lun's infrastructure. Lin Qian initially blames himself as the criminal responsible for the humiliation, but the crisis produces a sharper and more dangerous conviction: his sword exists only for Kun Lun, and every law, emotion, and person—including himself—stands below the sect. That breakthrough partially heals his injuries. He then accepts public responsibility, promises to abdicate after the war, and orders total conscription of every able cultivator above mortal rank. The command converts Kun Lun's population and resources into a final army of 2.4 million, sacrificing long-term survival for one three-month attempt to destroy Mo Cloud Sea. (Chapters 909–914)

To let that mass army operate, Lin Qian personally challenges Wei Sheng in an empty jie and names Chao Xin as successor in case he dies. Their second duel lasts ten days and nights, with neither god-level sword xiu able to disengage or gain a decisive advantage. The larger campaign collapses elsewhere when Zuo Mo reveals that the new Nether King and Mo King are the same person and sends the united yaomo army into Kun Lun's undefended rear. Seeing Zuo Mo and Mo Cloud Sea's pseudo god-level experts arrive, Lin Qian understands that his army has failed and loses the will sustaining the duel. He is last shown alive, exhausted and wounded, apologizing to his master over the Immemorial Sword as Kun Lun's defeat becomes final. (Chapters 914–915)

Appearance and personality

Lin Qian is introduced as a peerlessly handsome young man of roughly Zuo Mo's height, with strong brows, sharp eyes, an overwhelmingly masculine appearance, and habitual white clothing. His posture and speech are polished enough for Zuo Mo to mistake him for an inexperienced rich traveler. In combat the softness disappears: his sword essence makes him resemble an unsheathed blade, his hair flies loose, and his eyes become contrasting red and blue as heat and cold intensify within them. After Kun Lun remakes his body, the narration describes it as tall, balanced, and nearly flawless. (Chapters 62, 78, 130, 621–626, 735)

His public manner is usually warm, restrained, and scrupulously courteous. He can return respect to an enemy, seek expert advice from a subordinate, or remain calm after a failed mission. That composure is not softness. Lin Qian continually evaluates people by their value or danger to Kun Lun, hides his identity when secrecy is useful, and is willing to abandon companions when no strategic rescue is possible. His strongest emotion is institutional loyalty: grief for fallen disciples, love for his master, ambition, personal guilt, and even his own survival are all ultimately subordinated to the sect. Lin Qian respects ability even across enemy lines. He recognizes Zuo Mo's talent before understanding his identity, rates Wei Sheng as an existential future threat, and acknowledges the resolve of Gu Liang Dao's doomed battalion. Yet his respect rarely changes his chosen objective. He will praise an opponent, offer surrender when killing brings no benefit, and avoid harming bystanders in a private duel, but he also accepts mass conscription and catastrophic losses when he believes Kun Lun's survival requires them. His final sword path makes this hierarchy explicit rather than resolving it. (Chapters 196, 621–627, 684, 902–915)

Abilities and cultivation

Sword cultivation

Lin Qian is a sword xiu whose early strength already exceeds most elders of his generation. He can suppress his cultivation and identity, sense dangerous presences, move with extreme speed, and express sword essence powerful enough to pressure jindan observers while still young. At Great Peace City, his Tai'a sword focuses a burning point of light that cleaves Yu Shuang's overlapping energy fields. His red and blue eyes mark the opposed qualities in his power, while the seven-sword wheel shows that he can receive distinct sword essences from cooperating Kun Lun disciples and organize them around his own sword as a formation core. (Chapters 78, 621–625)

These feats consume real resources. Three near-marshal experts together can stop his advance and dim Tai'a. His final Great Peace strike requires a secret temporary increase in cultivation, injures him, and melts the sword itself; despite cutting down much of the city, it cannot overcome Zuo Mo's celestial mo weapon. The sequence demonstrates that Lin Qian's control and destructive range are exceptional, not inexhaustible. Before he gains a shen sword, the durability of his weapon and the amount of power his body can safely release remain hard ceilings. (Chapters 622–627)

Kun Lun shen power and remade body

Kun Lun's shen methodology is a new system derived from ling power and sword essence rather than a direct restoration of an ancient practice. Lin Qian contributes most to its formation, then becomes its first principal cultivator. The remodeled body produced by Kun Lun's cultivation pool lets shen power move with his thoughts and accept sword essence without obstruction. Because ling power is the foundation, he judges that cultivation should begin after jindan stability but before fanxu completion; fanxu practitioners can convert, but their already completed connection to the world makes the new path less pure and limits the increase. (Chapters 684, 735)

Shen power multiplies Lin Qian's cutting force but also demands compatible materials. A seventh-grade sword melts during his first casual test, leading Kun Lun to seek ancient ruins and true shen devices. At the Central Plains he learns a further progression mechanic by observing the Chief Elder: burning weak shen power destroys the user, stronger burning briefly increases output before death, and only a sufficiently deep reserve can use burning as the transition into stable god-level. Lin Qian is not yet at that threshold there; he burns power only to activate his escape and returns badly wounded. (Chapters 735, 840–844)

Immemorial Sword and god-level

The Immemorial Sword is an ancient shen sword capable of bearing Lin Qian's mature power. His master's soul is merged into it to strengthen its sword soul, and the bond lets the weapon express an overwhelming sword essence that can be felt across distant regions. It can cut a path through the void, protect Lin Qian with barriers, and focus attacks that penetrate an entire battalion. These effects still depend on its wielder: escaping the collapsing Central Plains consumes Lin Qian's burning shen power and inflicts years of recovery, while Gu Liang Dao's self-destruction breaks successive defenses and wounds him through sheer accumulated force. After ten years of seclusion, Lin Qian reaches god-level. He can travel through the void, ignore ordinary massed attacks behind a shen-power shield, destroy formations and battalions, and fight another god-level for days while their collisions split the ground and sky. God-level does not make him invulnerable: a prior wound affects an even duel, Wei Sheng's purer sword focus defeats him in their first fight, and their rematch ends only when news of Kun Lun's strategic defeat breaks the conviction sustaining him. His final advance in sword essence comes from defining his personal path as “Kun Lun above all,” not from acquiring a separate reserve of limitless power. (Chapters 892, 902–915)

• Zuo Mo: Lin Qian first treats Zuo Mo as an intriguing local disciple connected to the Stars in Daytime mystery, helps him reach a formation insight, and quietly watches his growth. Their Great Peace confrontation turns that curiosity into explicit rivalry when Zuo Mo blocks Lin Qian's strongest strike and prevents the stele's capture. Thereafter Lin Qian regards Mo Cloud Sea as Kun Lun's most dangerous rising enemy, while Zuo Mo sees him as the strongest and most complete opponent produced by Kun Lun. Their conflict is strategic as much as personal: each repeatedly designs plans around the other's faction rather than seeking a simple duel. (Chapters 62–161, 621–627, 756–763, 840–844, 892–915)

• Wei Sheng: Lin Qian recognizes Wei Sheng's talent early and uses that potential to explain his sponsorship of Wu Kong Sword Sect. Respect gradually becomes extreme wariness after Kun Lun's treatment of Wu Kong makes Wei Sheng an enemy and Lin Qian concludes that he cannot safely be allowed to mature. Their parallel sword paths culminate at god-level: Lin Qian's sword places Kun Lun above the individual, while Wei Sheng's devotion is bound to his own convictions and the people he protects. Wei Sheng defeats him once and holds him to a ten-day stalemate in the final campaign. (Chapters 196, 277, 432, 674–684, 720–721, 902–915)

• Kun Lun's sect leader: Lin Qian's master both corrects and enables him. He orders Lin Qian to stop micromanaging threats and cultivate, gives him first access to the new methodology, appoints him Sword Pavilion Master, and directs the older generation to spend their lives buying time for younger disciples. After being mortally wounded while searching an ancient ruin, he entrusts Kun Lun to Lin Qian and willingly merges his soul into the Immemorial Sword. Lin Qian's later guilt is therefore directed as much toward failing his master as failing an institution. (Chapters 684, 735, 797, 910, 915)

• Xue Dong and Chao Xin: These two occupy different functions in Lin Qian's inner circle. Xue Dong is the great battlefield commander whose campaigns turn Kun Lun's scale into territory; Chao Xin is the low-cultivation strategist whom Lin Qian deliberately elevates and consults on infiltration, diplomacy, and long-term expansion. Lin Qian listens rather than insisting on his own first answer, but he retains final responsibility for the sect's direction. Before the last duel he chooses Chao Xin as the next sect leader, showing that judgment rather than personal cultivation determines this final succession choice. (Chapters 756–763, 781–805, 892–915)

• Pei Yuan Ran and Wu Kong Sword Sect: Lin Qian offers the displaced sect land in Bright Wave Jie and presents his aid as an investment in Wei Sheng. His hidden investigation and Kun Lun's later move against the sect destroy any goodwill that action creates. By the final war he can admit that Kun Lun's handling of Wu Kong was probably its greatest mistake, yet he still reduces the question to victory and defeat. The relationship therefore embodies his central contradiction: he can identify the moral and strategic cost of Kun Lun's conduct without placing that recognition above Kun Lun itself.
