Cinnabar Pill
The Cinnabar Pill is a lifesaving medicine refined by Chen Changsheng with his own divine blood. Its battlefield value makes it a source of hope, political prestige, and violent competition, while its manufacture imposes a continuing physical cost on its creator. History
A hidden medicine on the northern front
The Cinnabar Pill first becomes known as a scarce, mysterious medicine capable of saving gravely wounded soldiers, while its maker remains secret and the Tang clan is entrusted with distribution. Its value raises morale but also provokes theft and competition. Zhexiu recognizes its scent because he has taken one, and later evidence identifies Chen Changsheng as the refiner whose batches keep reaching the northern armies. The Pope's blood made public
An Hua reveals that Chen uses his own blood to refine the pills, turning the hidden medicine into a source of public devotion and papal prestige. Chen continues making and personally distributing bottles through the final war, where pills save fighters such as Fei Dian. The sustained monthly blood loss, however, taxes Chen so severely that it prevents his cultivation from advancing. (Chapters 868–889, 924, 1006, 1091, 1130, 1147–1151, and 1177–1179)
Abilities and properties
- A true Cinnabar Pill treats severe external injuries including blood loss, broken bones, and chest wounds and can keep badly wounded recipients alive. Claims that it revives the dead or universally regrows the body are exaggerations. (Chapters 924, 999, and 1091)
- Pills made from leftover refining ingredients are weaker than the true medicine, though the residue of Chen's blood makes them especially effective at staunching bleeding. (Chapters 1044 and 1126)
- Production depends on Chen's divine blood. Repeated monthly refining causes substantial blood loss and suppresses his own cultivation progress, so the medicine is powerful but not cost-free or unlimited. (Chapters 1177–1179)
