War beneath the Starry Sky

When the Bureau of Ecclesiastic Education requires new leadership, Zhuang's position as principal makes him the most qualified institutional candidate, and he openly stands with the three serving bishops. Chen Changsheng rejects Mao Qiuyu's recommendation, which insults Heavenly Dao Academy and leaves Zhuang dissatisfied enough that conflict with Guan Bai appears possible. He consequently holds the academy against Orthodox cavalry with an unyielding stance; after the confrontation ends without the expected attack, he understands that the display was a test of resolve rather than an attempt to destroy the school. Appearance and personality

The corpus gives little sustained physical description, but his arrival as Heavenly Dao Academy's vice principal is enough to frighten a hostile crowd into dispersing. His conduct is proud, institutionally loyal, and severe: he protects his academy's standing, dotes on his son enough to bend its rules, and later remains outwardly composed when cavalry and rival teachers confront the school. (Chapters 5, 269, and 1088)

Abilities and cultivation

Zhuang is an accomplished senior cultivator and sword practitioner. His personal Sword of Hithering Light is both a physical sword and the basis of a powerful sword art, and later assessments count him among the substantial expert reserves of the Ivy Academies and the Orthodoxy. The corpus does not assign him a precise stable realm in these passages. (Chapters 162 and 1070)

Relationships

  • Zhuang Huanyu: Zhuang Zhihuan is explicitly Zhuang Huanyu's father. After separation from the boy's mother and a later reunion in the capital, he dotes on his son, secretly lends him the Sword of Hithering Light, and entrusts him to Guan Bai's care. (Chapters 84, 269, and 446)
  • Guan Bai: Guan is Zhuang's disciple and accepts responsibility for caring for Zhuang Huanyu. Their later political positions create enough tension that others fear Zhuang might strike him. (Chapters 443–446, 534, and 1081)
