Guan Bai, called Famous Name Guan Bai, is Heavenly Dao Academy's greatest modern swordsman and a Proclamation of Liberation expert. After losing his sword hand to an old Daoist nun, he rebuilds his technique with the other hand, later becomes an archbishop, and dies saving allies in the northern war. (Chapters 5, 437–446, 534–603, 862, and 1053–1152)

Biography

The Capital's Change of Rule

Guan returns to public attention after an old Daoist nun tortures a stray dog and severs the hand he used to hold his sword when he intervenes. Rather than abandon cultivation, he trains the opposite hand and accepts Heavenly Dao Academy's demand to fight Chen on Zhuang Huanyu's behalf. Their Mount Han duel pits Guan's completed Star Domain and Heavenly Dao Sword against Chen's strongest methods; when Chen unexpectedly collapses, Guan cannot halt the technique in time and wounds him, then apologizes because harming the Orthodoxy's future was never his intention. (Chapters 534–603)

That combination of strength and moral standing later makes Guan Chen's choice for Archbishop of the Hall of Illustrious Persons. He returns to confront the Heavenly Dao Academy's resistance and then goes north, where news of Liang Banhu's death draws him to reinforce the Mount Li forces. Guan dies in that rescue, and An Lin carries his body back; the final act fulfills his earlier belief that personal loss matters less than preserving humanity's fighters. Appearance and personality

Guan first appears as a scholarly figure whose eyes flash with threatening sword intent. He is stern, proud, and direct, but also deeply moral: he intervenes for a stray animal, grants Chen time to prepare, and accepts responsibility for an accidental wound. (Chapters 442–476, 543, and 588–599)

Abilities and cultivation

He is a Star Condensation expert with a fully formed Domain and the powerful Heavenly Dao Sword, a technique whose momentum can exceed the wielder's ability to stop it once released. Losing his original sword hand forces him to rebuild technique rather than reducing him to helplessness. (Chapters 543 and 588–603)

Relationships

  • Zhuang Huanyu: Guan once cared for Zhuang like a younger brother and fights Chen partly to answer Heavenly Dao Academy's grievance over Zhuang's death. (Chapters 442–446 and 588–599)
  • Chen Changsheng: Guan challenges and accidentally wounds Chen, then later accepts appointment from him as archbishop. Mutual respect survives their conflict. (Chapters 588–603 and 1053–1092)
  • Liang Banhu: News of Liang's death prompts Guan to reinforce the Mount Li fighters, where he also dies while saving them. (Chapters 1148–1152)
