Liang Banhu

Liang Banhu is the fifth of Mount Li Sword Sect's Seven Laws, a taciturn swordsman whose reliability matters more than display. He studies with his sect brothers, fights in the northern passes, and dies during the final campaign against the demons. (Chapters 107–199, 333, 587–589, 862, and 1131–1180)

Biography

The Grand Examination

Liang enters the Grand Examination as one of Mount Li's leading young disciples and immediately rejects conduct that he considers unfair. His duel with Tang Thirty-Six is fierce enough to project sword manifestations beyond the Tower of Purging Dust, but his most revealing match is against Qi Jian: the junior defeats him in a bloody contest, and the two emerge calmly discussing each other's mistakes without resentment. The loss removes Liang from contention while demonstrating that Mount Li's internal bonds turn competition into training rather than factional conflict. (Chapters 107, 140–156, and 182)

Appearance and personality

Liang is habitually silent, wooden, and somewhat oppressive in manner. His sword intent is described as trustworthy, and rare smiles appear around close companions. Spartan upbringing at Mount Li leaves him indifferent to luxury and comfortable with hardship. (Chapters 214–232, 333, and 438)

Abilities and cultivation

He makes even the introductory Mountain Gate Sword carry dense, disciplined intent, with a hint of Su Li's Stupid Sword concept. By the later rankings he has entered Star Condensation. His strength remains below Zhexiu's mature mixed-blood power, and battlefield service leaves him severely injured before his final death. (Chapters 587–589, 787, 862, 929, and 1151)

Relationships

• Qi Jian: Qi Jian defeats Liang in the examination, but neither treats the result as a grievance. Their technical discussion afterward expresses the familial discipline of Mount Li. (Chapters 154–155)
• Gou Hanshi: Liang follows Gou's leadership in study and war, trusting his calm judgment while supplying steady strength. (Chapters 204–232 and 787)
