An Lin

An Lin is the Li Palace's permanent representative in the south and one of the Orthodoxy's senior archbishops. She helps protect Chen Changsheng, commands cavalry and church forces, briefly loses office for distrusting his leadership, and returns to dangerous service in the northern war. Biography

Wenshui and the White Emperor City

An Lin accompanies Chen through Wenshui with Orthodox cavalry, a hall treasure, and the responsibility to prevent another ambush. When Daoist Baishi argues that the church should replace Chen with Shang Xingzhou, she understands the danger but hesitates rather than joining the betrayal; she subsequently keeps close to Chen and returns to the capital when the political situation changes. Her support remains imperfect—later doubt leads Chen to remove her quietly from office—but she offers no resistance, accepts reassignment, and returns from the front with Guan Bai's body, preserving service even after loss of status. Appearance and personality

An Lin is a Daoist nun in priestly robes, generally solemn, controlled, and attentive to danger. She can hesitate when loyalties conflict, but in panic she steadies other priests by calmly reciting scripture, and later seeks mercy through restrained counsel rather than defiance. Abilities and cultivation

She manipulates a belt through true essence, sending petals through the air, and contributes powerful Qi to Orthodox arrays. Her scripture recitation also restores discipline among frightened clergy. The evidence establishes senior cultivation but not a precise final realm. (Chapters 822, 1023, and 1055)

Relationships

• Chen Changsheng: An Lin protects Chen and accepts his authority, yet her incomplete trust eventually costs her office. Continued wartime service shows that the disciplinary action does not become rebellion. (Chapters 822–860 and 1055–1160)
• An Hua: An Hua is her niece and an ardent supporter of Chen. Their conversations make An Lin confront whether caution has weakened her loyalty. (Chapters 804–805)
• Daoist Baishi: An Lin serves beside Baishi in Wenshui but does not accept his attempt to overturn the papal succession. (Chapters 822–833)
