Neela

Neela is a physically gifted level 2 acolyte who accompanies Leylin Farlier on one of his earliest missions outside Abyssal Bone Forest Academy. Her short connection with him spans field combat, intimacy, and potion sales before she pragmatically withdraws to her family when the academy becomes unsafe.

Biography

Joining Kaliweir's patrol

Neela joins Kaliweir, Lilisse, Raynor, and Leylin on a mission to patrol the academy's surroundings and hunt Red-Eyed Ravens. The team initially treats her flirtatious manner as more visible than her strength, but Leylin's measurements reveal that she possesses the best physical attributes among the acolytes and has already reached the level of a Knight. Her practical knowledge also helps the group identify creatures and judge danger in the forest. At this stage she remains a level 2 acolyte who is still preparing a rank 0 spell rather than a reliable combat caster. (Chapters 31–33)

The Violent Hilly Bear disaster

The mission collapses when the group encounters a Violent Hilly Bear far beyond what inexperienced acolytes can safely handle. Neela fights as part of the formation, but neither her Knight physique nor the team's limited spells are enough to control the encounter. When the group breaks apart, she and Lilisse use an expensive Hastening Potion to escape. The episode demonstrates both Neela's advantage over ordinary acolytes and the firm ceiling on that advantage: enhanced movement and disciplined retreat, not personal dominance, are what keep her alive. Intimacy and trade with Leylin

After the survivors return, Neela openly pursues Leylin and the two enter a casual sexual relationship. The connection is neither a lifelong romance nor merely a passing conversation; it also develops a practical dimension when Neela uses the Welter family's channels to sell Leylin's potions. She delivers the proceeds promptly and proves herself an effective intermediary. Leylin, who remains emotionally detached, still considers her useful and sensible enough to warn when he foresees serious danger around the academy. (Chapters 36 and 40–41)

Choosing the Welter family

Neela accepts the warning and decides to return home instead of gambling her life on Abyssal Bone Forest's growing crisis. She offers to take Leylin with her, but he declines and their paths separate. More than a century later, Leylin learns that Neela died 129 years before his return to the South Coast. He judges that her adaptable temperament probably allowed her a comparatively decent life, though the supplied chapters do not record the cause or circumstances of her death. Appearance and personality

Neela is a good-looking young woman whose flirtation is direct, physical, and sometimes teasingly coquettish. That presentation can make her seem less serious than she is. Beneath it, she is observant enough to recognize field creatures, physically disciplined enough to reach Knight level, and commercially efficient enough to handle Leylin's potion sales without delaying his payment.

She is also pragmatic. Neela does not mistake attraction for a promise of permanent protection, and she chooses the Welter family when Leylin's warning makes the academy's risk clear. Frustration can make her spiteful, but she is not reckless in the way Raynor becomes under pressure. Her withdrawal preserves her life far beyond the immediate academy conflict, even though it removes her from Leylin's later rise. (Chapters 31–41)

Knight-level conditioning

Neela has trained her body to the level of a Knight while remaining an acolyte. Her measured strength, agility, and vitality are the highest in Kaliweir's patrol group, giving her better close-range survival, speed, and endurance than her companions expect. This is physical conditioning, not a supernatural bloodline, and it does not make her comparable to the Violent Hilly Bear or to a full Magus. Acolyte studies and Weary Hand

As a level 2 acolyte, Neela has begun constructing the rank 0 spell Weary Hand. During the patrol she states that she has not yet fully mastered it, so it cannot be treated as a consistently available combat technique. Neela recognizes creatures encountered around the forest and contributes to the party's practical threat assessment. She can operate within a patrol, respond to an ambush, and retreat with another survivor instead of freezing when a mission exceeds its limits. These are learned field skills. Potion use versus personal power

Neela knows when to use prepared alchemical resources and has access to family trade channels, but she is not identified as the brewer of the Hastening Potion or of Leylin's stock. The potion accelerates Neela and Lilisse enough to flee the bear; its effect is temporary, consumed from an external item, and should not be read as Neela possessing innate super-speed.
