Darlie

Biography

A struggling young Magus

Darlie travels with other light Magi and tries to establish herself in Teljose City immediately after becoming an official Magus. Advancement has consumed her savings, while the spell models and work appropriate to her new rank remain unaffordable. Companions with fewer prospects abandon the attempt, but Darlie refuses charity and continues searching because accepting dependence would undermine the status she fought to reach. She meets a masked traveler without realizing that he is Leylin Farlier, the historical Magus whose life she learned as a top-scoring student. (Chapters 670–672)

Joining Leylin and the Farliers

Darlie witnesses Leylin defeat Alric and protect Krupp, exposing both the stranger's identity and the danger of remaining behind. She accompanies them because Alric's organization can now treat her as an accomplice. Leylin's effortless alchemy and explanations offer the education she could not buy, so she asks to become his disciple. He refuses that formal relationship but permits her to observe, then requires a soul oath binding her future to the Farlier family. Darlie accepts the price and studies beside Krupp; unlike him, she receives no bloodline transplant, so her progress remains rooted in her original Magus path and what she can learn. (Chapters 673–682)

Appearance and personality

Darlie is a young female Magus whose pride, studiousness, and perseverance distinguish her from companions who abandoned their ambitions. She is easily overwhelmed by high-ranked power but remains observant, intelligent, and willing to make a lifelong commitment for the chance to learn. (Chapters 670–679)

Magic, bloodline, and abilities

Rank 1 foundation

Darlie is a newly advanced rank 1 Magus. She knows protective theory concerning souls and isolation from a Magus's polluting radiation, enough to recognize danger and participate safely around stronger practitioners. Her poverty prevents her from purchasing the spell models normally expected after advancement, and the corpus does not show a named offensive spell. Rank establishes her spiritual foundation, not a complete inferred arsenal. (Chapters 670–673)

Scholarship and observation

She has strong memory, historical knowledge, and disciplined study habits, having excelled in formal examinations. Under Leylin she learns by watching demonstrations and listening to explanations rather than receiving a packaged inheritance. This gives her unusually valuable instruction but does not instantly grant Leylin's alchemy, rank, or A.I.-assisted precision. Her progress is prospective and evidence should remain scaled to what she is shown understanding. (Chapters 672–682)

Oath and excluded resources

Darlie's soul oath guarantees loyalty to the Farlier family and makes long-term instruction politically safe for Leylin. It is a binding agreement, not a combat enhancement. Krupp's bloodline modification and the upgraded Fallen Star Pendant belong to Krupp; Darlie merely witnesses them and cannot be credited with their defensive or bloodline effects. (Chapters 676–682)

Relationships

  • Leylin Farlier: Rescuer and informal teacher whom she reveres.
  • Krupp: Farlier heir and prospective partner chosen for her by Leylin.
  • Alric: Rank 3 enemy whose confrontation exposes Leylin's identity to her.

Items

No individually named item is assigned to Darlie. She witnesses Leylin upgrade the Fallen Star Pendant, but it remains Krupp's possession. (Chapter 676)
