Fallen Star Pendant
The Fallen Star Pendant is a defensive artifact made by Leylin from a decrypted Lowian Academy recipe. Its automatic force field gives him a decisive survival advantage as an acolyte and is later upgraded after he becomes a Magus.
History
Forging a defensive safeguard
Leylin completes the pendant’s silver-cross core at great cost, then uses Roman’s captured spirit for the recipe’s final spirit-awakening step. The finished low-grade artifact automatically creates a defensive field when a threat meets Leylin’s chosen activation conditions. During the secret-plane bloodbath it blocks repeated attacks, though its stored energy can be exhausted and must be restored with starlight. (Chapters 77, 84, 86, 93, 96, and 99)
Reforging for a Magus
After Leylin reaches rank 1, the original field is too weak for most official Magus spells. He uses bloodline material and recovered artifact fragments to rework the pendant, strengthening its runes and adapting it to his new level. It remains an active defensive tool in later South Coast battles, including his escape from the counterfeit Hoop of Imprisonment. (Chapters 124, 134–135, and 149)
A relic revisited
Much later, Leylin cites the pendant while discussing magic-equipment manufacture. He states that its constituent materials cap it at low-grade magic equipment, establishing that the upgrade did not give it unlimited growth. The corpus does not establish what happens to it after this later examination. (Chapters 673 and 677)
Abilities and properties
- Automatically forms a protective force field when Leylin faces a sufficiently dangerous attack. (Chapter 93)
- Its original form negates attacks up to a fixed threshold but can be overwhelmed by stronger spells or depleted through sustained use. (Chapters 93–99)
- Recharges under starlight and can focus its defence on a chosen part of the body. (Chapters 99 and 117–118)
- Its later reforged state is limited by its materials to low-grade magic equipment. (Chapter 677)
