Kang Hwang
Kang Hwang is the hot-tempered master of Fire King Hall, eighth among the Ten Halls of Chaos. His suspicion of Jaehwan changes into loyalty only after Jaehwan and Gorgon's fighters prove that their plan can give Chaos the strength to resist the Lords. (Chapters 47–62)
Biography
Gorgon, regeneration, and the expedition
Kang Hwang arrives in Gorgon as a proud Hall Master and immediately tests Jaehwan, only to be flattened by several Stabs and treated by Chunghuh. Unlike Cayman and Yoon Yong, he refuses to pledge himself on faith. He demands that Jaehwan earn the recognition of the gathered Hall Masters and, in return, accepts Jaehwan's tournament as a test of whether those titled elites deserve to follow him. Kang Hwang loses his own match to Yu Seolha, whose movement exposes his lack of speed, but he joins the others in sharing top-grade Skills and training within the remade Tower. (Chapters 47–57)
During the Three Cities Converge, Kang Hwang's temper brings him into open confrontation with Garuda's faction, yet the Hall Masters' newly shared techniques allow Gorgon to overcome stronger Adapters. He is visibly moved when Cayman defeats the Jade-Faced Lord, proof that Chaos can oppose the power it once considered absolute. Kang Hwang later joins the force gathered for the renewed Abyss Expedition. When Sa Myeonghun intercepts them, one slash severs Kang Hwang's left arm, but he rises again with the other wounded expedition members and refuses to let Jaehwan's absence erase Chaos's collective resolve. (Chapters 60–62, 87, 91–93)
Appearance and personality
Kang Hwang's precise age and clothing are not established. His most consistent visual traits are expressive: fury fills his eyes, his face changes color when offended, and flames may escape his mouth or nostrils when his temper surges. By his latest scene, his left arm has been severed. (Chapters 47–50, 92–93)
He is blunt, proud, impatient, and quick to challenge others, but not blindly reckless. His initial refusal to follow an unproven leader is a practical concern for the lives of an expedition, and once Gorgon earns his trust, the same fiery temperament becomes open defense of its people. (Chapters 48–49, 60–62)
Powers and limitations
- Adaptation: Kang Hwang is an Over-Adapter and a Hall Master, placing him among Chaos's elite System users. The corpus does not explicitly confirm that he completes Awakening after entering the training Tower, so his demonstrated abilities remain Adaptation-based Skills. (Chapters 47, 56–57)
- Fire sword Skills: Flame Demon Blade scatters broad, indiscriminate fire across an arena. Fire King's Eighteen Swords favors destructive heat over speed and can melt techniques with greater raw spiritual power when their compatibility is favorable. Kang Hwang shares this Skill with the other Hall Masters. (Chapters 50, 56, 61)
- Limits: His destructive power is explicitly offset by slow movement. Yu Seolha evades every flame and defeats him, Jaehwan's Stabs overwhelm him, and Sa Myeonghun severs his arm with a single Slash. (Chapters 47, 50, 56, 92–93)
Relationships
- Jaehwan: Kang Hwang begins as Jaehwan's skeptic and tester, then accepts the collective project Jaehwan starts in Gorgon. (Chapters 47–62)
- Cayman: Cayman's immediate commitment contrasts with Kang Hwang's caution, but both ultimately fight for the expedition and Gorgon's independence. (Chapters 47–49, 62)
- Yoon Yong: The two Hall Masters bicker familiarly, train together, share their Skills, and stand together after suffering disabling wounds. (Chapters 48, 57, 61–62, 92–93)
Items
Kang Hwang uses a sword to perform his fire techniques, but the corpus supplies no name, grade, origin, or separate properties for it. (Chapters 50, 60–61)
