Cayman

Cayman is the bold and righteous Hall Master of South Sea Hall who abandons nine centuries of Adaptation to become Gorgon's first new Awakened One. His willingness to choose collective freedom over personal resurrection earns Jaehwan's deepest trust, and he later remains in Chaos as Citadel Carpe Diem's Outer Chief Administrator, chief instructor, and strongest defender.

Biography

Nine hundred years of regret and a new expedition

Cayman is a 954-year-old seventh-stage Adapter when he answers Jaehwan's challenge for Gorgon's lordship. A close friend of the former Citadel Lord Aimel, he was too weak to join the Abyss Expedition nine hundred years earlier and witnessed its disastrous end. He has spent the intervening centuries honing his blade and waiting to try again. After lasting fifty exchanges against Jaehwan, Cayman accepts defeat without resentment and declares that he had intended to join a new expedition before Jaehwan ever issued the invitation. His old regret therefore becomes commitment rather than a demand for status. (Chapters 44, 47)

When Geumcheon Hall's attacks expose a larger intervention from the Great Lands, Cayman rejects seeking rescue from the Palace of Rebirth and chooses Jaehwan's plan to unite Chaos. He is prepared to surrender his Hall Master position and follow Jaehwan anywhere because replacing one Lord's control with another would not accomplish the expedition's purpose. His competitive nature does not disappear, but it yields to fairness: Cayman concedes in Gorgon's tournament after already measuring himself against Jaehwan and recognizing that another public match would be misleading. This willingness to subordinate pride to the movement helps turn the Ten Halls toward a shared cause. (Chapters 48–53)

Cayman's greater sacrifice is abandoning Adaptation itself. Unlike every other Hall Master, he is not an Over-Adapter; effort alone carried him to the high seventh stage, and decades of work have left him against a limit talent cannot cross. Jaehwan's strength makes that inferiority painful, but Cayman treats the defeat as evidence of another path. He volunteers first for Awakening even after being warned that it may destroy his skills, status, and life, preserving only his hatred of the Lords. Under Jaehwan's guidance, repeated Stabs lead him through Doubt, Understanding, and Selflessness until he discards the nine hundred years that once defined his world. (Chapters 56–60)

After two hundred subjective years of training, Cayman manifests Great Sea World and defeats the Jade-Faced Lord who had once dismissed him as too weak. The victory proves that Gorgon's resistance no longer depends on Jaehwan alone. Cayman then persuades an opposing envoy to reconsider, trains new Awakened Ones such as Karlton, and becomes the strongest fighter in Gorgon beneath Jaehwan. His growth is not presented as effortless: the new world initially leaves him emotionally unstable, Hard Stab causes dizziness, and compressed time produces lasting trauma. Having crossed those limits himself, he becomes both the proof and the instructor of Gorgon's Awakening movement. (Chapters 62–70, 80)

Cayman accompanies Jaehwan and Chunghuh against the Palace of Rebirth, subdues the Mist Lord despite nearly dying, and finally reaches the Fruits that motivated Chaos's failed expedition. The Fruit of Resurrection could restore his life, and his desire for it is unmistakable. He nevertheless crushes the Fruits because ten promised lives would divide Chaos, turn its people against one another, and halt the larger expedition. Jaehwan brought Cayman precisely because he trusted him to accept personal despair rather than preserve a false hope that would endanger everyone. The choice fulfills the expedition's moral purpose even before Jaehwan defeats the Lords. (Chapters 71–79)

During the march to the Abyss, Jaehwan leaves Cayman with the main force rather than choosing him for the final passage. Cayman understands the unspoken responsibility and commands the formation when the Lords attack. He shields Sirwen Armelt despite broken weapons, depleted World Power, and wounds leaking silver light, refusing to kneel before Sa Myeonghun even when he can no longer open Great Sea World. The expedition later turns on him when footage reveals that he destroyed the Fruits. Jaehwan takes public responsibility, while Cayman grasps that the earlier expedition failed not only because of Lords but because ordinary desperation can fracture people from within. (Chapters 87–98)

Jaehwan ultimately asks Cayman to remain in Chaos because only he can rally its people. Cayman wants to follow but accepts the distinct burden, kneels with the Hall Masters at Jaehwan's departure, and becomes Carpe Diem's Outer Chief Administrator. Alongside Euren and the Horn Lords, he refuses to elect another king and leaves the throne vacant in memory of the one who freed Chaos. What first appears to be exclusion from Jaehwan's journey is thus the strongest measure of his trust: Cayman is given the world Jaehwan cannot stay to govern. (Chapters 88, 98–102)

The guardian left in Chaos

While Jaehwan crosses the Abyss and Metaverse, Cayman faithfully carries out the order to rally Chaos. His direct appearances disappear because his sphere of action remains behind, but Jaehwan repeatedly counts him among the companions whose influence made a mark on him. The separation preserves a deliberate division of responsibility: Chunghuh, Karlton, and Sirwen can accompany Jaehwan, while Cayman maintains the political and military foundation their expedition left behind. The supplied chapters do not describe individual campaigns during this interval, so his specific activities beyond that mandate remain unstated. (Chapters 102, 107, 119, 130)

The distance does not reduce Cayman's personal importance. In the Metaverse, Jaehwan thinks of the companions who are absent and later silently wonders whether Cayman and Euren are well. Those memories place Cayman within the human attachments that complicate Jaehwan's solitary path, even though Cayman cannot intervene in the immediate crisis. His continuing role is therefore expressed through stability in Chaos and through the trust established during their two hundred years of training, not through unsupported claims about unseen victories. (Chapters 107, 119, 130, 160)

Carpe Diem and the end of the old world

Long afterward, the four great citadels have become a single Carpe Diem containing more than a billion souls and nearly a million Awakened Ones. Cayman remains its Outer Chief Administrator and chief instructor and is described as the strongest person in Chaos. When Karlton's Citadel Gorgon projects Jaehwan's battle into their sky and asks for belief, Cayman does not need an explanation of the mechanism. He endorses Euren's decision, raises a hand with the ministers, and joins the collective Prayer that sends World Power across the boundary into the Abyss. His stewardship has turned Jaehwan's once-solitary method into a culture capable of answering him. (Chapter 235)

Cayman and the people of Chaos later watch the sky begin to collapse and understand that Jaehwan has achieved the goal he pursued. Their response is fear for him rather than doubt: they pray that victory will not end in the destruction they anticipate. Jaehwan, in turn, remembers training Cayman and Chunghuh as one of the rare periods when companionship eased his loneliness. Cayman's value at the end of the conflict is therefore not a final duel but the durable community built from the discipline, teaching, and belief he maintained in Jaehwan's absence. (Chapters 238, 250)

When normal aging returns in the New World, Cayman is among the ancient residents of Chaos who die first after already living far beyond a human lifespan. The later account remembers him with Euren, the Ten Hall Masters, and the souls who searched for Jaehwan because they still wanted to repay what he gave them. Cayman's death completes the liberation he fought for: he is no longer an undying Product trapped in Chaos's old order, but a person allowed to train others, grow old, and reach an ordinary end while preserving his chosen world. (Chapters 261–262)

Appearance and personality

Cayman appears as a middle-aged man despite being 954 years old when he meets Jaehwan. He is usually shown carrying a sword, and his training posture is precise, regular, and unchanging. The supplied chapters give no further stable details about his face, hair, clothing, or build, so his recognizable presence comes primarily from fierce Spiritual Pressure, a booming laugh, and the seasoned bearing of a Hall Master. (Chapters 44, 47, 59, 92)

Boldness and righteousness are Cayman's public reputation, and he is also a born competitor. Those qualities make him willing to challenge Jaehwan and fight Lords, but not unwilling to concede when a contest would be unfair or its outcome is already clear. He laughs readily, accepts blunt criticism without complaint, and responds to a lack of talent by working longer rather than demanding an exception. Beneath that confidence lies a history of inferiority and regret that Awakening forces him to confront directly. (Chapters 47, 53, 56–59, 63)

Cayman's defining strength is the ability to choose a painful collective good while fully feeling the personal cost. He wants the Fruit of Resurrection before destroying it, wants to enter the Abyss before accepting the duty to remain behind, and feels fear before opening Great Sea World. His resolve is therefore not emotional numbness. It is disciplined trust—in Jaehwan, in the people he trains, and in a freedom that cannot depend permanently on one exceptional savior. (Chapters 62, 75–76, 88, 92–102)

Powers and limitations

Adaptation and Awakening

Cayman reaches the high seventh stage of Adaptation without the Over-Adapter talent possessed by the other Hall Masters. His original swordsmanship has excellent fundamentals and no obvious weakness, but also no singular advantage capable of breaking his long-standing ceiling. Awakening requires him to discard accumulated Skills and the numerical world on which his identity rested. Repeating Stab makes familiar actions strange enough to produce Doubt; Understanding and Selflessness follow during two hundred years in a high-density Tower. The process nearly destabilizes his sense of self and later causes time trauma, establishing will and guidance—not raw talent—as both the source and cost of his transformation. (Chapters 47, 56–60, 80)

Great Sea World

Great Sea World is the Unique World Cayman manifests after surpassing third-stage Awakening. It recreates the Great Sea Zone where he spent nine hundred years, surrounding his sword with waves and producing a tsunami large enough to overpower the Jade-Faced Lord's Abyss Rending. Within it, Cayman draws upon spiritual power that appears endless by Adapter standards and can release repeated high-cost Stabs. The supply does not make him inexhaustible in every circumstance: after prolonged combat he can lose the mental energy required to open the world, and Field Commander-class pressure still leaves him helpless once his reserves and concentration collapse. (Chapters 58, 62, 92)

Stab techniques

Jaehwan teaches Cayman Light Stab, Normal Stab, and Hard Stab through enormous repetition. Cayman creates Forceful Stab, explicitly placing it above Normal Stab and below Hard Stab, and uses it to reverse a clash with a transcendent-grade palm technique. Hard Stab is a large-scale attack whose early use makes him dizzy because it remains unfamiliar. He can also perform Spiral Kill, the hybrid stab-and-slash technique created by Jaehwan and Chunghuh but named by Cayman; paired with Great Sea World, it destroys the Jade-Faced Lord's strongest attack and body. These techniques remain effort-intensive, and later attrition can leave him unable to deliver even one final blow. (Chapters 51, 59, 62, 92)

Combat leadership and instruction

Cayman combines personal strength with formation command and instruction. He trains Karlton through two hundred subjective years, directs the Abyss Expedition's formations, and becomes Carpe Diem's chief instructor as its Awakened population approaches one million. Early victories establish him above Gorgon's other Awakened fighters and capable of defeating a Chief Commander, but the Regeneration War establishes the upper limit: even after seriously injuring several Chief Commanders, Cayman cannot overcome Sa Myeonghun or a combined force of Lords. His latest stated rank is the strongest person in Chaos, a regional assessment rather than evidence that he has surpassed the Abyss's highest beings. (Chapters 62–70, 87, 92–93, 235)

Relationships

  • Jaehwan: Jaehwan turns Cayman's failed challenge into an opening for growth, guides him safely through Awakening, and trusts him with the choice to destroy the Fruits. Cayman acknowledges him as both master and Citadel Lord, then accepts the harder role of preserving Chaos after Jaehwan leaves.

  • Chunghuh: Cayman trains with Chunghuh for two hundred years and fights beside him against the Palace of Rebirth. Their shared history as former Products gives them an understanding that Sirwen cannot bridge with explanation alone, while their companionship becomes one of Jaehwan's few memories of training without isolation.

  • Karlton: Cayman personally trains Karlton from a Fifth Adapter into a third-stage Awakened One. Karlton becomes first among Carpe Diem's company commanders but remains second to Cayman among Gorgon's fighters, and his eventual Unique World allows the society Cayman built to lend Jaehwan its belief.

  • Euren: Euren and Cayman serve as Carpe Diem's internal and outer administrators after Jaehwan's departure. Cayman steadies Euren during Gorgon's crisis and later remains beside him as they govern the united citadel, answer Karlton's call, and age to death in the New World.

  • Sirwen Armelt: Cayman initially knows Sirwen as a dream demon whose Towers cultivated Products like himself. He nevertheless fights beside her against the Lords and steps between her and Sa Myeonghun when already near collapse, making their alliance a rejection of the roles Chaos assigned both of them.

Items

  • Four-Horned Beast horn sword: Cayman carries a sword made from a Four-Horned Beast's horn during the Catastrophe campaign. It serves as the focus for his Stab techniques after Awakening, but the Dark Fragrance Lord destroys it with a single punch while Cayman is already exhausted. (Chapter 78)

  • Fruits of Resurrection: Cayman reaches the golden Fruits kept by the Palace of Rebirth and briefly holds the means to regain life after nine hundred years. He destroys them because limiting resurrection to ten people would turn them into seeds of conflict and prevent Chaos from pursuing genuine liberation. (Chapters 75–76, 97–98)
