Khyaal
Khyaal is Rodova's giant second-year swordsman, whose first duel with Leo exposes both the depth of his training and the danger of underestimating an adaptive opponent.
Biography
From confident gatekeeper to displaced teammate
Khyaal helps spy on Leo's practice and enters their selection duel convinced that size, preparation, and second-year experience make the outcome certain. His discipline initially justifies that confidence: he counters Leo's illusions, survives being disarmed, and accepts the destruction of his own arm to choke Leo unconscious, winning by incapacitation. The ordeal nevertheless forces him to recognize the first-year's potential rather than dismiss him as a joke. When they compete again for the Circuits roster, Leo has closed the gap and defeats him, costing Khyaal his team place and demonstrating the development Khyaal had feared. He remains alive, but no later career is established. (Chapters 86, 89–94, 147–152)
Appearance and personality
Khyaal stands roughly seven feet six inches tall, with a massive frame and a deep, giant-like voice. He is initially amused by Leo's challenge and uses taunts to impose pressure, yet his actual swordwork is measured, with solid footwork and few openings. His willingness to fight through a ruined arm shows extreme toughness, while his later acknowledgment of Leo tempers his early arrogance. (Chapters 86, 90–94)
Abilities and power progression
Khyaal wields a colossal two-handed longsword with enough force to split arena stone. Berserker's Rage reddens his skin and raises swing speed and recovery; Full Vision reads mana to distinguish real bodies from visual clones; Tsunami Slash supplies a broad destructive attack. Even disarmed, his raw speed, strength, and endurance let him use broken terrain and grappling to win. Full Counter turns his own committed force against him, while Leo's later growth proves preparation is not a permanent advantage. The corpus shows improved rivalry awareness, not a sourced tier breakthrough. (Chapters 90–94, 147–151)
Relationships
- Leo Skyshard: Khyaal defeats Leo in their first brutal selection duel but later loses his roster place to him. (Chapters 86–94, 147–152)
- Yu Shen: Yu Shen is Khyaal's captain and observes both his preparation and his changing assessment of Leo. (Chapters 86–94)
- Minerva: Minerva is a fellow second-year Circuits member during Khyaal's roster period. (Chapters 86, 152)
Items
Khyaal's main item is an oversized two-handed longsword. It magnifies his reach and destructive power but can be disarmed by redirected force, as Leo demonstrates with Full Counter. (Chapters 90–92)
