Owen
Owen is a friendly Colosseum combatant who becomes Jake’s guide, training partner, and principal source on the Lightning Monarch.
Biography
The Floor Climb and Challenge Dungeons
Owen meets Jake on the road to the Colosseum and immediately offers practical guidance, shared registration, and companionship despite both being competitors. He advances more slowly than Jake but continues fighting, supports him from the stands, helps him recover, spars with him, and explains the lightning-arcane style taught by his father. Jake’s victory over the Lightning Monarch redirects that father’s ambitions toward making Owen a Grand Champion, an inheritance Owen accepts with mixed feelings. His growing partnership with Polly becomes a romance before Jake leaves their individualized Challenge Dungeon behind. (Chapters 739–751, 765–768, 775–783)
Appearance and personality
Owen is a young man with a cheery expression who arrives carrying a travel bag. The corpus does not establish his hair or eye color. He is enthusiastic, sociable, encouraging, and unusually calm about the arena’s lethal stakes. His confidence exceeds his early results, but he remains willing to learn and shows genuine concern when Jake is injured. (Chapters 739–742, 746, 750)
Path, class, and abilities
Owen primarily uses a flexible spear with medium armor and has some training with a sword, buckler, pitchfork, and several schools of magic. His father also taught him the family’s lightning-arcane affinity, which channels energy through the body to enhance speed, durability, and weapon strikes. Owen can explain its operation well enough for Jake to build a counterstrategy. (Chapters 739, 765–767)
He is nevertheless an inexperienced arena fighter at the beginning. Early opponents injure him, his progress trails far behind Jake’s, and later spars establish that he is not yet Champion material. The Challenge Dungeon normalizes power and restricts skills, so his demonstrated state reflects that simulated level-zero environment rather than an outside version of Owen. (Chapters 739–742, 754, 768)
