Eversmile

Eversmile is a Primordial who treats lives and destinies as experiments, engineering William’s intended rise, studying the disruptions caused by Jake, and later assisting Yip of Yore’s attempt to build a fatal narrative around the Malefic Viper.

Biography

The broken Tutorial experiment

Eversmile shapes Jake’s Tutorial around a predicted outcome in which William becomes its sole survivor. He pays other divine actors to steer events, interferes through dreams and mortal agents, and retrieves William after Jake kills him. Rather than discard the failed subject, Eversmile spends rare resources to revive him without ordinary resurrection defects and offers discipleship so the altered experiment can continue. Jake’s survival and repeated refusal to follow the predicted script therefore do not merely ruin the design; they create a second subject whose choices Eversmile finds worth observing. (Chapters 93–96 and 138)

William eventually recognizes that Eversmile’s karmic influence has distorted his fears and choices, denounces the Blessing, and steps onto a heretical Path. Eversmile greets that apparent loss with a wider smile because the changed karmic links generate new, unpredictable results. He later supports Yip of Yore’s campaign against the Viper and investigates the First Sage after Nevermore, continuing to value information and altered outcomes more than conventional victory. His curiosity persists at the corpus cutoff despite several schemes producing results different from their stated aims. (Chapters 555–557, 643–645, 886–887, and 928–929)

Appearance and personality

Eversmile appears as an old man with long, unruly white hair, an even longer beard, and a constant smile that seems to carry no ordinary emotion. He is calm, opaque, and relentlessly experimental. He can answer plainly while still withholding the structure of his plans, making his refusal to stop smiling and his habit of treating people as variables more unsettling than open hostility. (Chapters 93–94 and 643–645)

Path, class, and abilities

Eversmile specializes in karma, fate, and the connections between people. The corpus emphasizes manipulation and observation rather than direct combat.

Karmic threads and intervention

He can perceive and alter karmic links, implant long-running influences, coordinate a predicted destiny, and observe the cascade created when one link changes. He also freezes the Tutorial around Jake while retrieving William and performs a high-grade resurrection using a Golden Leaf of Yggdrasil. These feats depend partly on costly favors, prepared agents, and rare materials, showing that even his broad influence is not free or unlimited. His Path also prevents a direct lie without backlash, though this restriction does not stop him from answering narrowly or arranging circumstances that mislead others. (Chapters 93–96, 138, 557, and 643)
