Demon Lord Gubrothas

Demon Lord Gubrothas is the central demon antagonist of the middle floors of Minaga’s Labyrinth. Released accidentally by Jake’s party, he escapes their first battle, rebuilds his strength through empowered artifacts, and is ultimately denied the resurrection normally available to his species.

Biography

Release, restoration, and final defeat

Jake’s party released the sealed Gubrothas by bypassing the labyrinth’s intended quest route. Weakened by his long confinement, he nevertheless fought the group, lost an arm, and escaped through a prepared teleportation circle after acknowledging them as worthy adversaries. He then returned to his castle, where loyalists, consorts, and scripted artifacts helped restore his body and authority. (Chapters 666–670)

Gubrothas faced the party again with his Heart, armor, crown, and sword fully empowered. The Heart restored even decapitation, while his crown summoned Tower Demons and his armor absorbed the fire-filled environment. After the party broke his defenses and bisected him, he merged his remaining body and soul into his sword to escape and regenerate. The Fallen King contained that remnant long enough for Eternal Hunger to enter the artifact, consume every trace of its energy, and produce a confirmed kill. (Chapters 681–686)

Appearance and personality

Gubrothas is a roughly five-meter-tall red demon with curled goat-like horns, burning red eyes, rock-like growths over his skin, and lava-colored energy visible through cracks in his body. He is proud, theatrical, and easily provoked: he repeatedly monologues, demands recognition of his title, and lets Jake’s insults pull his attention away from more strategic targets. (Chapters 667, 681–684)

Path, class, and abilities

Gubrothas constantly emits extreme heat and controls deep-red fire through breath, shockwaves, sigils, waves, and large formations. His obsidian-like bones, immense vitality, and empowered armor make him difficult to damage, but he is slower than Jake’s party and burns away ordinary poison rather than being fully immune to corrosion applied over time. (Chapters 667, 682–685)

His Demon Lord nature can regather remnant energy into a new body, although the number of returns is limited and sufficient soul destruction can delay or prevent them. Gubrothas accelerates that process by sealing himself inside his sword, but this creates a direct counter: Eternal Hunger can attack and consume the trapped soul and energy inside the item. (Chapters 667, 685, 686)

Relationships

  • Jake Thayne: Jake helps release him, repeatedly provokes him during combat, breaks his armor, and uses Eternal Hunger to prevent his return. (Chapters 667, 683–685)
  • Sword Saint, Sylphie, Fallen King, and Dina: The party coordinates environmental control, soul containment, healing, and attacks that make his final defeat possible. (Chapters 681–686)
  • Minaga: Gubrothas exists within Minaga’s scripted labyrinth scenario, though his combat power and choices function as genuine threats to participants. (Chapters 667–686)

Items

Gubrothas used an empowered Heart, armor, crown, and sword. They merged during his attempted escape and were destroyed or drained in his final defeat; none is included in the finalized item scope.
