Bastilla

Bastilla is a beastfolk alchemist at the Order Academy, best known as Reika’s roommate, friend, and companion on the Nine Floors of the Indigo Caverns expedition.

Biography

Academy friendship and dungeon expedition

Bastilla’s shared residence and alchemy lessons with Reika help Reika overcome her early discomfort around nonhuman peoples. Although Bastilla received little formal teaching before the Academy, she earned a bronze token and advanced quickly through a Perception-focused approach to craft. She joined Jake’s dungeon group on short notice, fought and dismantled monsters, and then struggled to treat him casually after discovering that he was the Malefic Viper’s Chosen. (Chapters 499–511)

Living with a famous connection

Bastilla later joined the informal support group of people whose lives were disrupted by association with Jake, complaining that relatives treated one shared dungeon as a route to the Chosen. The connection remained social rather than intimate, and she continued her own progress; by Jake’s return she was away in Nevermore with Reika rather than serving directly in his household or faction leadership. Appearance and personality

Bastilla has a lithe feline build, golden hair covering her whole body and face, catlike eyes and features, and summonable moth- or butterfly-like wings. She is the daughter of an elven mother and a winged lion-like beast father. Her blunt language, staring, and curiosity can seem crude, but her questions arise from inquisitiveness rather than hostility; she is loyal to Reika and candid about fear or confusion.

Path, class, and abilities

• Perception-led alchemy: Bastilla analyzes crafting processes through a Perception-heavy build. Her early lack of instruction left technical gaps, but also allowed rapid improvement once she gained Academy teaching.
• Combat and mobility: Her feline heritage supports Agility, and her conjured wings provide flight. She can fight level-appropriate dungeon monsters, but the corpus does not give her a named offensive technique or show her matching the black-token members of the party.
• Scavenging and dismantling: She possesses practical skills for processing monster corpses and retrieving useful materials, making her valuable in an alchemy dungeon where ingredients come from enemies.
• Latest state: She remains an active alchemist and Nevermore attendee. No later passage establishes a token promotion, named class evolution, or signature concoction.

Relationships

• Reika is Bastilla’s roommate and close friend. Bastilla broadens Reika’s view of beastfolk, while Reika helps her navigate the social shock of Jake’s identity.
• Jake Thayne invites Bastilla largely because she is nearby and useful to the dungeon team. The revelation that he is a Chosen transforms an ordinary expedition into an unwanted source of outside attention.
• Irin travels and crafts with Bastilla during the dungeon and later shares the same support group for people affected by Jake’s fame.
