Yun Xiaozi

Yun Xiaozi is a late-Foundation Cloud Octopus demon whose evasive mist and unusual tentacle-born subordinates defend a secluded sea lair. Huiyao’s deception draws him into an ambush by Li Qinghong and Kongheng, who capture him instead of killing him. (Chapters 634–636)

Biography

Deception and capture

Huiyao invokes the Dragon Son’s arrival to lure Yun Xiaozi away from his den, relying on the octopus’s unwillingness to risk offending a superior dragon. Once Yun approaches Qinghong and Kongheng, the group attacks together. His golden mist initially conceals an escape, but Huiyao’s borrowed bell disperses it and stills the sea. Two lesser octopuses briefly relieve the pressure; Kongheng recognizes their flawed nature, and Yun is forced to face Qinghong’s thunder rather than flee. The bell then interrupts his attempt to draw spiritual energy from the surroundings, removing the advantage on which his limited combat repertoire depends. (Chapters 634–635)

The pursuit lasts through the night. Qinghong’s spear cuts away his tentacles while Kongheng blocks escape and beats his defenses apart, finally leaving him unable to resist. Qinghong forces him into human form, seals his Immortal Foundation and sharp beak, and claims him for a further purpose. Yun refuses to reveal his lair, but Huiyao and his brother torture him while under orders to keep him alive. The captors use his token to enter the den and divide its spirit items; he is later carried back to Moongaze Lake by Xizhi. His foundation remains sealed, and his later fate is unknown. (Chapters 635–636,641–642)

Appearance and personality

His true form is a huge gray, eight-tentacled octopus with sea beetles covering its skin and enormous black eyes. He assumes the shape of a hook-nosed elder with a sunken nose bridge and wooden staff. Capture reduces that form to a head and withered torso, while his refusal to reveal the lair persists despite defeat. (Chapters 634–636)

Abilities and cultivation

Yun cultivates Soft Advance, also called Auspicious Essence, and has late-stage Foundation Establishment strength. He produces golden mist, draws on surrounding spiritual energy and wields a sharp purple-black beak capable of biting through thunder. Eight severed tentacles become lesser Cloud Octopuses, nurtured through his Dao foundation; two reach Foundation Establishment but remain inherently flawed. Huiyao’s bell counters his mist and energy flow, while combined thunder and Buddhist suppression prevent an effective recovery. Qinghong seals both foundation and beak after capture. (Chapters 634–635)

Relationships

  • Huiyao: Deceives him, counters his spells with a borrowed bell and forces access to his lair. (Chapters 634–636)
  • Li Qinghong: Principal attacker who captures and seals him. (Chapters 634–635)
  • Kongheng: Suppresses his tentacles and blocks escape. (Chapters 634–635)
  • Li Xizhi: Carries the captive back to the Li household. (Chapters 641–642)

Items

His token opens the lair’s formation. The den holds broken artifacts, spirit water and spiritual qi that the captors divide. The green bell that defeats his mist is Huiyao’s borrowed artifact, rather than Yun’s possession. (Chapters 634,636)
