Biography

A veteran in the valley war

Yuwei arrives at Baixiang Valley with disciples and advises the defenders to treat the approaching war as a contest between powers carefully managing their forces. When the Tuoba attack reaches them, he fights with a purple-red cauldron and water-and-fire techniques; the death of a disciple drives him from his usual composure into reckless attacks against Tuoba Chongyuan. Chongyuan badly wounds him, and after recovering Yuwei grieves for his lost disciples before returning to battle. (Chapters 749, 769–773, 786, 800–803)

While trapped with Li Xizhi, Li Quantao, and Li Qinghong, Yuwei argues that ruthless bargains are common throughout cultivation society, then admits that he once delivered poison to Li Encheng during a Yu-family power struggle. He says senior members chose him because he was the youngest and lowest in standing. He later reveals that Quantao is his nephew: Yuwei’s younger sister was Quantao’s mother. Though he was expected to flee, Yuwei spends his last strength releasing two rune-covered flame dragons from a talisman cut from his palm, buying the others time to escape. His use of the talisman visibly ages him; later accounts say he died after staying behind. (Chapters 811–812, 814–815, 822, 884)

Appearance and personality

Yuwei is an aged cultivator with a white beard. He speaks bluntly when he believes his companions need to understand the stakes, but his seasoned judgment is accompanied by a willingness to spend himself in defense of people he considers family. (Chapters 769, 811, 815)

Abilities and cultivation

Yuwei is a Foundation Establishment cultivator who activates his Immortal Foundation in battle and combines water and fire attacks with a large purple-red cauldron. The cauldron releases purple flames and can summon two flame dragons to strike alongside his allies. Chongyuan’s attacks leave Yuwei gravely wounded and dim the cauldron, showing that his combined defense can be overwhelmed by a stronger opponent. The cauldron’s origin and the full mechanics of his Immortal Foundation remain unknown. (Chapters 772–773, 801, 812)

He also carries a white talisman concealed in his palm. Drawing it requires cutting into his hand; it releases two rune-marked flame dragons, but the second use leaves him visibly older. Whether this cost comes from the talisman or Yuwei’s activation method remains unclear. (Chapter 815)

Relationships

  • Li Xizhi: Yuwei warns and fights beside Xizhi during the retreat, then stays behind to cover the others. (Chapters 769, 810–815)
  • Li Quantao: Yuwei’s late disclosure that Quantao is his nephew reframes his earlier restraint and his decision to find Xizhi rather than flee. (Chapters 814–815)
  • Li Encheng: During a Yu-family struggle, Yuwei was selected to deliver poison to Encheng. He later acknowledges his own role while arguing that senior family members assigned him the act. (Chapter 814)
