Li Quantao
Biography
A debt to his father’s old bonds
Li Quantao had spent nearly his entire life cultivating on Fuchen Peak and considered himself poor at social maneuvering. When he arrived at Chengdu Pass in mourning for his father, he learned that Li Xizhi was trapped behind a formation while the outsider Yuan Huyuan refused to open it. Quantao left the protection of the formation despite Huyuan’s warning that the enemy came from the Tuoba family: Xizhi had honored the old family bonds when Quantao’s father, Li Encheng, was shunned, so Quantao could not face his late father if he abandoned Xizhi. His Water Wall Pearl let him hold off Tuoba Chongyuan long enough to help Xizhi escape, but the fight left Quantao gravely injured and close to collapse. (Chapters 775–777, 815)
A loyal ally beyond the battle
Quantao continued to assist Xizhi through the conflict, but his admiration for Daoist Master Donghua was shaken when he learned that his own ancestor had ambushed the sword immortal and stolen his sword. The revelation left him speechless and distraught even as he kept fighting and helped the group escape through the water veins. Later, as Fuchen Peak’s master, he handled rewards for the Li family and brought Li Xuanxuan firsthand news of Azure Pond’s leadership upheaval. After a dangerous expedition into an unmaintained secret realm, he returned with what remained of its spirit materials and thanked Li Ximing for saving his life.
