Yu Jiang

Yu Jiang is a Southern Sea cultivator whose shamanic talisman arts make him a dangerous opponent of the Azure Pond Sect. He turns that feud into a paid alliance with the Buddhist monk Xuwang and helps open the defenses at Mount Bianyan.

Biography

The Southern Sea cultivator’s bargain

Yu Jiang keeps his distance when Guo Hongjian tries to draw him into a confrontation with Li Qinghong, recognizing the strength of her artifact and ancient spell arts. He later admits to a grudge against the Azure Pond Sect. When Xuwang asks him to break Mount Bianyan’s formation, Yu Jiang refuses to work for nothing and demands a blossom of Lesser Yang Fire. With payment secured, he uses talismanic implements and an art that reproduces Li Xuanfeng’s appearance and aura to enter the formation; within three breaths, its gates begin to open. (Chapters 855, 864, 870–872 and 909)

The fall of Mount Bianyan

Yu Jiang fights alongside Xuwang and other devil cultivators against the sect’s defenders. Three bone tokens circle him as his shamanic arts transform Chi Zhiyan’s storage pouch into a golden rat and prevent him from using its contents. His persistent spells help pin the defenders while the invading forces dismantle the formation and overrun the mountain. (Chapters 881–882)

Appearance and personality

Yu Jiang first appears as a black-robed young man, though his complexion and appearance can change. He is wary of risks and expects fair payment for his work, but once he accepts a bargain he applies his arts decisively and with careful preparation. (Chapters 855, 870–872)

Abilities and cultivation

Yu Jiang practices the Shamanic Talisman Dao, a method associated with Danjungwulo and passed down there for generations. His demonstrated arts include concealing talismanic implements within his body, reproducing Li Xuanfeng’s appearance and aura, opening Mount Bianyan’s formation, and transforming an opponent’s storage pouch into a golden rat. He also uses persistent spells to prevent Chi Zhiyan from reaching the pouch. His exact realm and the broader mechanics of these arts are unknown. (Chapters 871–872, 881–882 and 909)
