Wan Tiancang

Wan Tiancang is a Wan Family cultivator who manages leased spirit fields in Li territory and seeks cooperation against the Ji Family’s pressure.

Biography

Protecting the Wan Family’s remaining fields

With Ji Dengqi’s attacks threatening the Wan Family’s tribute payments, Tiancang approaches the Li Family for help. He offers the Misty Barrier Formation scroll in exchange for access to spirit fields and accepts a lease charging fifteen percent of the harvest. He settles in Lichuankou Village, finding pleasure in tending the rice. When a mountain wolf begins killing villagers, fear for the crop initially keeps him from leaving his courtyard, but Xiangping makes their shared need for protection explicit. Tiancang sends urgent letters which bring Wan Xiaohua to the village. (Chapters 31–32 and 41–42)

After the wolf’s defeat, Tiancang recovers Xiaohua’s lost rattan whip and cautions him against claiming the carcass. Continued Ji attacks drive him to seek a stronger Li intervention, offering the Wan Family’s other formation knowledge while withholding the formation essential to Mount Huaqian’s defense. He also advises Tongya on tribute markets and scarce medicines. When the Wan plan an ambush, he realizes Ji Dengqi may be deliberately drawing out their allies. Tiancang later dies on Mount Huaqian; Tongya regards his loss, alongside Xiaohua’s, as the removal of the people who might have restored the Wan Family. (Chapters 43–46, 66 and 77–78)

Appearance and personality

He has a plain appearance and keen eyes, wears leather armor and carries a longbow. His courteous bargaining conceals careful calculation; the Li brothers consider him harder to handle than Wan Yuankai. Concern for his family’s remaining resources can outweigh immediate concern for outsiders. (Chapters 31–32 and 41)

Abilities and cultivation

Tiancang reaches peak Profound Scenery in the Embryonic Breathing Realm. He uses Spirit Rain to tend paddies and assesses the spiritual qi and soil of leased fields. His cultivation is insufficient to confront the stealthy mountain wolf confidently, so he relies on urgent communication and Xiaohua’s assistance. He draws on the Wan Family’s inherited formation knowledge in his dealings with the Li Family. (Chapters 32 and 41–42)
