Shanbai

Shanbai is a Horn Wood Daoist Master whose medical skill helps stabilize Zhugong after the northern campaign. His friendships with southern Dao lineages coexist with the constraints imposed by living near the Yue Cultivating Sect. (Chapters 1506–1509)

Biography

Caution and medical assistance

Shanbai maintains good relations with Purple Smoke Gate and Xiukui Dao Gate, but his sea territory lies under the Yue Cultivating Sect’s jurisdiction. He avoids being drawn into the northern conflict by remaining in seclusion, and his allies refrain from pressing him. Once the opposing sides settle into a standoff across the river, he emerges, lends assistance at the crossing and visits Tinglan to examine Zhugong. The disorder among Zhugong’s disciples displeases him, and he questions the wisdom of pursuing further advancement while already injured. Tinglan answers that the chance to attain the Dao justifies the danger. (Chapters 1506–1507)

His examination identifies a concealed Veiled Yin injury in addition to Zhugong’s existing damage, worsening the treatment problem. Shanbai stabilizes her condition and remains in the cave dwelling preparing herbs and grinding medicine with divine ability. Tinglan brings Li Ximing to consider a fuller remedy; Shanbai continues supporting the treatment while Ximing refines and delivers the pill. His intervention buys time for the injured cultivator and permits others to work toward recovery, without itself resolving her pursuit of the Dao. (Chapters 1507–1509,1513–1514)

Appearance and personality

Shanbai is a white-haired elder who carries a wooden staff and strokes his beard while speaking. He prefers orderly surroundings and voices concern about reckless advancement, yet responds cheerfully when Li Ximing greets him. (Chapters 1506–1507,1509)

Abilities and cultivation

A mid-stage Purple Mansion cultivator of the Horn Wood Dao, Shanbai uses divine ability and calculation to recognize Zhugong’s delayed Veiled Yin injury. He stabilizes her condition and prepares medicinal herbs with a small green jade mortar. His treatment creates room for Li Ximing’s alchemy; it does not immediately remove every injury. (Chapters 1507–1509,1513–1514)
