Quan Yi

Quan Yi was a cautious Linghe Peak cultivator whose sense of danger did not keep him from standing by his companions at Baixiang Valley.

Biography

The Baixiang Valley defense

When introduced, Quan Yi offers spell arts useful for interrogation, but his later conduct shows that self-preservation remained a serious concern. After being conscripted to Baixiang Valley, he gradually settled there; he had no spouse or children and worried about his elderly mother, who lived at his home peak. As the attackers approached, he calculated that the defenders could not safely face a larger force. His Immortal Foundation had already given him a dim sense that the valley would end badly, but he stayed rather than abandon his companions or risk drawing danger toward his mother. (Chapters 749, 768–769, 771)

Once the fighting began, Quan Yi committed himself to the defense. He sent out two golden cords, strengthened them with his Immortal Foundation, and coordinated their attacks with Li Xizhi and Yu Yuwei; he also struck with a palm imprint of golden light. Tuoba Chongyuan eventually overcame the defenders and killed Quan Yi, whose body and Dao were destroyed. Quan Yi had asked Li Xizhi to look after his mother, and Li later brought the bedridden woman to the mountain and cared for her until her death. (Chapters 770–773, 782, 786, 1026)

Appearance and personality

Quan Yi is described as a middle-aged man with a neatly groomed beard. He initially appears uneasy about the danger at Baixiang Valley, but remains with the defenders because he does not want to abandon them. (Chapters 749, 769, 771)

Abilities and cultivation

Quan Yi had reached the mid-stage of Foundation Establishment by the time he introduced himself. His Immortal Foundation vaguely senses fortune and misfortune; the ability’s precise mechanism is unknown. In combat, he used two golden cords that pierced Tuoba Chongyuan’s white-light defense after Quan Yi activated his foundation; he also used a golden palm imprint. The names and full mechanics of these attacks are unknown. (Chapters 749, 770–772)
