Qing Jifang

Qing Jifang is a proud scion of Mount Changhuai whose status and formidable arts repeatedly bring him into conflict with the Li family. His jurisdictional challenge to Li Ximing and later clash with Li Zhouwei leave his rivalry with the family unresolved.

Biography

A privileged scion of Mount Changhuai

Qing first confronts Jiang Boqing over an immortal book and the upheaval in Yue. His gray pearl shields their exchange from other Purple Mansion cultivators. He exposes that Boqing used divine ability to manipulate Jiang Yan’s father, kill Yan’s mother, and shape Yan into a talismanic vessel for reincarnation. Qing offers Boqing a chance to begin again in Wu, but Boqing’s wisp of Metallic Essence sees through the attempt to confuse him and lets him send Jiang Yan away. (Chapters 362–363)

At a later gathering, Qing uses divine sight to recognize Li Xuanfeng’s talismanic origins and demands that he hand over the body. He also stands his ground when Zipei warns that he is outmatched. By then he is a mid-stage Purple Mansion cultivator. A later account of Qing’s own birth reveals that his father used Radiance Profound Essence and Veiled Yin in an attempt to balance Yin and Yang, originally intending Qing for True Essence; the plan failed at his birth, so he was sent to cultivate the Pure Rite Profound Earth lineage. (Chapters 721–722 and 1695)

A jurisdictional challenge to Ximing

At Southern Reach Hall, Qing asks why Ximing visited Reverent Yang Mountain but bypassed Mount Changhuai, which claims authority over Lacquer Marsh. He frames the question as a challenge to Ximing’s ties with the Supreme Yang Dao lineage. Ximing answers that an old arrangement with the Daoist Master of Xiukui Dao brought him to the lake to refine pills; Tianhuo replies that he too has visited Reverent Yang Mountain. The exchange turns Qing’s inquiry into an open test of who may claim a say over Ximing’s routes. (Chapter 1564)

Qing turns away from Ximing after warning Tianhuo that they will settle the matter in Northern Garden Hall, and the two sides part on poor terms. In the secret-realm contest, Mount Changhuai’s cultivators arrive first with a compass and powerful treasure, break barriers and formations, and reach Southern Reach Hall ahead of Su Yan and Ding Weizeng, whom Ximing had guided. Their success helps Mount Changhuai secure the medicine cauldron, displaying the leverage behind Qing’s jurisdictional challenge without resolving Ximing’s old arrangement or the lineage’s claim over Lacquer Marsh. (Chapters 1564–1565)

A humiliating confrontation with Zhouwei

At Mount Xiping, Qing intervenes when Li Zhouwei’s attack disrupts the confrontation. He sweeps away Zhouwei’s Imperial Divergence Light with gray qi and endures a direct blow from the Brilliant Yang King’s Axe with his dharma body. Four fingers are nearly severed, and Bright Yang power spreads through the wound, but he conceals the injury and keeps his composure. (Chapter 1694)

Zhouwei’s Descending Light Unified Spear passes through Qing’s occupied space without piercing his body. Qing takes the near miss as an affront to Changhuai, and Zhouwei forces him to retreat. Qing vows that Zhouwei will be humiliated after his defeat in the north; this remains a threat, while Qing’s hand is still injured in the last account of the battle. (Chapters 1694–1695)

Appearance and personality

Qing has delicate, refined features and wears a simple Daoist robe when first introduced. At the spring gathering he appears in gray robes with a floating gray jade pearl. He is proud of his birth and lineage standing, and presses political claims even when stronger opponents may answer them. After Zhouwei wounds him, he hides the damage rather than admit defeat. (Chapters 362, 721 and 1694)

Abilities and cultivation

Purple Mansion cultivation and divine sight

Qing is identified as a Purple Mansion cultivator in his first appearance and is mid-stage by Chapter 721. His divine sight lets him infer Li Xuanfeng’s unusual origin and talismanic constitution; in an earlier encounter, he also senses the change in Jiang Boqing’s emotions. The sight’s full range and limits remain unclear. (Chapters 362–363 and 721)

Gray mist, gray qi, and the dharma pearl

Qing carries a gray dharma pearl that emits mist and conceals activity from outside divine sight. His gray qi can also form a large hand that sweeps aside Zhouwei’s Imperial Divergence Light, and the pearl returns to him after falling. The artifact’s maker and full mechanics are unknown; Qing’s arts do not prevent the Brilliant Yang King’s Axe from badly injuring his hand. (Chapters 362–363, 721 and 1694)

Pure Rite Profound Earth cultivation

Qing was born from a spirit item and inherited some of the origins of Radiance Profound Essence. His father tempered that origin with Veiled Yin, hoping to balance Yin and Yang and prepare him for True Essence. When Qing’s birth showed the design had failed, his father redirected him to the Pure Rite Profound Earth Dao lineage. That lineage is his actual path; the True Essence plan was never attained. His arts are later judged powerful, though the wound from Zhouwei’s battle remains unresolved. (Chapters 1694–1695)
