Pingling
Pingling is a three-eyed Merciful One who fights Li Ximing during the assault on the northern Buddhist formation. His reliance on borrowed empowerment exposes the limitations of his Buddhist seat, but his judgment and third-eye light help turn a one-sided suppression into a dangerous struggle. (Chapters 1345–1350)
Biography
Borrowed strength against the heavenly gate
Trapped beneath Ximing’s Heaven-Venerating Gate with two weaker Merciful Ones, Pingling hesitates to request empowerment because he lacks the immense faith of an enlightened cultivator beneath the Golden Lotus Throne. His companions offer to share the burden as Ximing burns away their golden bodies. The answering multicolored light grants Pingling another pair of arms, but the Gate erodes most of the borrowed strength before it arrives. He can shelter his companions for a time, yet cannot freely choose the form of aid or turn it into an escape. His complaint that Ximing’s arts target Buddhist cultivators reflects how thoroughly the group has lost the initiative. (Chapters 1346–1347)
Once he receives fuller empowerment outside the Gate, Pingling attacks Ximing with four golden implements and briefly shakes the suppression. The other monks’ reluctance to sacrifice themselves prevents coordinated resistance, allowing Ximing to disengage. Chilu’s intervention then gives Pingling an opening: their joint assault strains the Gate, and his third-eye light pierces Ximing’s layered defenses. When another powerful Merciful One joins the battle, Pingling again times his attack to the moment Ximing raises divine ability. The Surging Yang Star Command Treasure Disk blocks the ray and arrests all four attackers, leaving Pingling’s later fate unknown. (Chapters 1348–1350)
Appearance and personality
Pingling has a golden dharma body and a third eye between his brows. Borrowed empowerment produces two additional arms and dense bodily runes. He resents bearing the cost alone, but can recognize and exploit brief openings amid a crowded battle. (Chapters 1346,1348–1350)
Abilities and cultivation
As a Merciful One, Pingling requests divine ability from the Buddhist land rather than freely wielding a Maha’s arts. The aid is conditional on faith and arrives in a limited form; Ximing’s Gate initially removes sixty percent of it. Fuller empowerment lets him shake the Gate and use four golden implements. His third-eye treasure light penetrates defensive spells, but the Star Command Disk counters it. These are borrowed and demonstrated combat states, not permanent independent mastery. (Chapters 1346,1348–1350)

- Chilu: Joins the fight and creates opportunities for Pingling’s light attacks. (Chapters 1348–1350)
- Two junior Merciful Ones: Share his initial predicament, but their reluctance to sacrifice themselves weakens cooperation. (Chapters 1346,1348)
Items
