Madam Hu
Madam Hu is Li Chengliao’s wife and Li Zhouwei’s mother. Her unusually long pregnancy and her son’s solemn, seemingly divine bearing leave her struggling to reconcile ordinary maternal affection with the child’s extraordinary nature. (Chapters 622–624 and 649–650)
Biography
An auspicious child and an anxious mother
Hu carries Zhouwei for eleven months, and his birth leaves her exhausted in both body and spirit despite her Qi cultivation. Chengliao protects her recovery while the family takes the infant before its mirror. The mirror finds a pure infant spirit, so the child’s strange presence does not establish possession. Hu recuperates with medicinal elixirs, but the memory of a difficult birth and the boy’s dark golden gaze continue to trouble her. (Chapters 622–624 and 649)
When she visits Zhouwei, she offers the attention of a mother rather than treating him solely as an auspicious family heir. She grinds ink and remains while he writes for hours, yet his composed courtesy and changing eyes prevent the ease she expects with her own child. The White Ape tends the lamp and accompanies her departure after night falls. She leaves still wondering whether this remote, solemn boy is truly her son; the anxiety is hers, rather than proof of an alien spirit or a rejection of him. (Chapters 649–650)
Appearance and personality
Her defining portrayal is that of a physically depleted but attentive mother. She continues to seek closeness with Zhouwei even when his uncanny composure makes her afraid. Neither her fear nor his unusual bearing establishes a plot against the family. (Chapters 624 and 649–650)
Abilities and cultivation
Hu is a Qi cultivator, but the long pregnancy and birth still drain her completely. Elixirs support her recovery; no numbered Qi layer or named personal technique is established in these events. Her cultivation does not make the emotional demands of motherhood easier. (Chapter 624)
