Lingyanzi

Lingyanzi is a kind-hearted but overburdened elder of Purple Gale Peak. A chance discovery in a lightning-filled grotto tied his fate to the Li family, whose members saved him and whose younger cultivators he later invited to his peak. (Chapters 158–160, 561–562, 1189–1190)

Biography

A rescue that binds two families

While fleeing two Changxiao Gate cultivators, Lingyanzi reaches the Li family nearly out of pills and asks Li Tongya for help, promising treasures and techniques in return. Tongya draws the pursuers into an ambush; Lingyanzi then traps them with his Purple Smoke Spirit Shield and warns the Li family not to open their tracked storage pouches. In later years, he explains that as a young Qi Cultivator he stumbled into a lightning-filled grotto in the Eastern Sea and took away several fragments, including the Purple Thunder Secret Origin Technique. He gave the technique and a gate-entry token to the Li family, but asked Li Qinghong to conceal its origin because he feared Purple Smoke Gate would discover his involvement. (Chapters 158–160, 561, 1263)

A struggling peak master and teacher

Lingyanzi remains bound to Purple Smoke Gate, where Purple Gale Peak lacks resources, standing, and enough disciples to preserve its lineage. Though poor at managing relationships and resources, he has a soft heart and tends to accept students from humble families. He recruits from the Li family and eventually takes Li Queyi as a disciple, but the peak’s needs lead him to ask her family for support for her senior brothers and sisters. He continues teaching her as an aged cultivator, even as his remaining lifespan grows short. (Chapters 562, 1159, 1190, 1252)

Appearance and personality

Lingyanzi is an old man with a white beard and a wooden staff. He is earnest, socially awkward, and easily embarrassed, but he remembers the Li family’s rescue with gratitude and repeatedly tries to help its younger cultivators. (Chapters 251, 561–562, 1189–1190)

Abilities and cultivation

Lingyanzi reaches the mid-stage of Foundation Establishment. His Purple Smoke Spirit Shield withstands repeated sword attacks and can expand to trap multiple opponents. He found the Purple Thunder Secret Origin Technique in a grotto, but its mechanics and whether he personally mastered it are not established. (Chapters 158–159, 561)
