Dingyang

Dingyang is an exacting Lacquer Marsh artifact smith whose craft and resource negotiations connect his small Dao lineage with Moongaze Lake. (Chapters 1418, 1516–1518)

Biography

Lacquer Marsh and the unfinished artifact

Invited by Kuiqi to Zhijing Mountain, Master Dingyang introduces himself as a Daoist of Lacquer Marsh. He is interested in Mount Wu’s shamanic arts, but quickly turns to the dharma artifact he came to inspect. Because his lineage lacks methods, alchemy, and resources under the Changhuai Upper Sect, he negotiates a long-term arrangement: he will refine an artifact for the Li family in exchange for materials and pill support. He leaves soon after to supervise another important spirit artifact already in his furnace. (Chapter 1418)

A workshop shared with Moongaze

Dingyang later evaluates armor materials for Li Ximing, identifies which components can be reused, and proposes a more workable design; he also handles Yuan'e while examining and raising its scales. Their dealings grow into an ongoing exchange of craft, materials, and favors. By his later meetings with Daoist Master Luo, Dingyang remains at his furnace, where his measured counsel and artifact expertise make him a useful partner amid regional instability. (Chapters 1516–1518, 1598–1599)

Appearance and personality

When he first arrives, Dingyang wears unusual clothing and a treasured blade, with gloomy eyes and an unstable aura. He speaks stiffly and directly, preferring practical terms and work at his furnace to idle conversation. (Chapters 1418, 1516)

Abilities and cultivation

Dingyang is a Purple Mansion Realm cultivator and a rare, experienced artifact smith. He uses an unnamed divine ability while examining Yuan'e, can judge whether materials will support a spirit embryo, and oversees long-running artifact refinements. The specific mechanics and limits of his divine ability remain unknown. (Chapters 1418, 1484, 1516–1517)

Relationships

  • Li Ximing: Their relationship begins with a negotiated artifact commission and continues through appraisals, material exchanges, and mutual favors. (Chapters 1418, 1516–1518)
  • Daoist Master Luo: The two meet repeatedly at Dingyang’s workshop and speak with the familiarity of longstanding associates. (Chapters 1518, 1598–1599)

Items

Dingyang temporarily handles Yuan'e while assessing it for the Li family; the armor remains part of their commission rather than his personal possession. (Chapters 1516–1517)
