Yang Dian
Yang Dian is a Pugilist who works with Ned as an independent superhero. Their attempt to rescue a research team exposes both his sincere courage and the danger of acting on an institution's claims without verifying them.
Biography
Escape from Germinal and the Aquamarine War
Yang Dian and Ned enter a forbidden zone on a rescue mission from the Louis Research Institution. When a mutant white lion corners them, Yang Dian pushes Ned out of its first strike and suffers severe fractures while trying to block it. Han Xiao, concealed in his Viper suit, saves them but refuses to join their mission; the pair later find that the exploration team has already mutated and return its supposed cure material to the institution. When the institution calls Han a thief, Yang Dian and Ned confront him despite knowing they are outmatched. Han defeats them, spares them, and gives them evidence that the institution has used their heroism to gather enhancement and bioweapon material rather than develop a cure. Yang Dian's ideals are shaken, but he survives and angrily challenges the institution over its deception. (Chapters 175–177, 179, and 181–183)
Appearance and personality
The corpus gives no stable description of Yang Dian's face, build, or clothing. He is courageous, protective, and strongly committed to a superhero ideal, volunteering to sacrifice himself so Ned can escape. He is also impulsive and overly trusting of an apparently benevolent employer. Facing death exposes fear and regret beneath his rhetoric, and learning the truth forces him to reconsider how justice should be pursued. (Chapters 175–176 and 182–183)
Abilities and class
Yang Dian is a Pugilist who channels blue flames around his arm when striking. His enhanced body can survive severe injuries and continue moving, but he is far weaker than the mutant white lion and Han's mechanical suit. The corpus does not name his technique or state his exact grade. (Chapters 175–176 and 182)
Relationships
- Ned: Ned is Yang Dian's superhero partner. They argue under pressure but protect one another, undertake rescues together, and jointly confront the institution that deceived them. (Chapters 175–183)
- Han Xiao: Han saves Yang Dian from the mutant lion, later defeats and spares him, and supplies the evidence that exposes the Louis Research Institution's deception. (Chapters 176 and 182–183)
- Louis: Yang Dian accepts work from the Louis Research Institution in the belief that it seeks a cure, then denounces it after learning its real research goals. Louis is the institution's namesake in the supplied metadata; no direct personal meeting between the two is established. (Chapters 179 and 182–183)
Items
Yang Dian carries a laptop for navigation and uses bandages and ointment to treat his injuries. Han later gives him an unnamed thumb drive containing evidence against the Louis Research Institution. None is a named catalog item. (Chapters 175 and 182–183)
