Shana
Shana is a powerful metal-controlling Esper in a secret group that captures selected Calamity Grade Supers. Her choice to hunt Han Xiao exposes the organization and enables him to dismantle its Shattered Star Ring base.
Biography
Mutation Disaster and the Secret War
Shana and Eliot capture Kernid for their organization's hunting list, after which Shana independently chooses Han Xiao as her next target. Believing that her control of metal naturally counters a Mechanic and that Han has only recently entered the Calamity Grade, she rejects Eliot's advice to prepare and attacks alone. She kills the ordinary forces around Han and initially suppresses his machinery, but his non-metal equipment, allies, and orbital weapons defeat her. Han deliberately lets her retreat after planting a tracking mark. Shana accepts reassignment to headquarters under the group's rules, then joins a second, larger attempt that Han also permits to escape so the hunters will regroup. Once every member returns, Han leads Ames and a coalition to the hidden base, rescues its prisoners, and captures Shana and all five colleagues alive. Albert's subsequent claim that Klent ordered the operation is presented as a cover story rather than a confirmed account of Shana's ultimate superior. Her disposition after the capture is not established. (Chapters 629 and 633–643)
Appearance and personality
Shana is a woman who initially wears a plain white enchanted overcoat and a white cat-shaped alloy mask. The mask is destroyed during her first fight with Han Xiao, exposing her face, but the corpus supplies no stable details of her features, hair, or ancestry. She is cold, blunt, self-assured, and ruthless toward bystanders. Her confidence rests on accurate knowledge of her favorable matchup against Mechanics, but she badly underestimates Han and acts without preparation. She can recognize a lost battle and retreat pragmatically, though she shows little remorse for the failure itself. (Chapters 629, 633, and 635–638)
Abilities and class
Shana is a high-level Calamity Grade Esper whose power controls metal and magnetic fields. She can tear apart spaceships, compress wreckage around a target, disassemble nanotechnology, turn debris into enormous moving constructs, fly by manipulating metal, and raise a strong magnetic-field shield. Her ability is exceptionally effective against Mechanics and can threaten entire fleets, while an enhanced electromagnetic sense further strengthens the energy behind it. The power is not absolute: non-metallic equipment avoids direct control, sustained shielding consumes energy, concentrated attacks can exceed its defensive threshold, and opponents whose strength does not depend on metal are far less restricted. (Chapters 629 and 633–637)
Relationships
- Han Xiao: Shana selects Han as prey because she expects an easy class advantage. He defeats her twice, tracks her home, and orchestrates the operation that captures her organization.
- Eliot: Eliot is Shana's regular field partner. He cautions her against attacking Han without preparation and later helps the group retreat from its second attempt.
- Kernid: Shana uses crushed spaceship wreckage to capture Kernid and return him to the hunters' prison.
- Albert: Albert helps lead the hunter group and speaks for its members after their capture, offering a misleading Klent explanation to conceal the real sponsor.
- Ames: Ames provides the overwhelming Beyond Grade A force that prevents Shana's group from escaping its headquarters.
Items
Shana wears a white overcoat covered in enchantment inscriptions and a cat-shaped alloy mask while operating anonymously. Neither is named, and the mask is destroyed in her first battle with Han Xiao. She also uses a single-person spacecraft, but no persistent named personal item is established. (Chapters 629 and 633–635)
