Roddick

Roddick is a senior general of the Modo Civilization entrusted with its elite Expedition Fleet in the Flickering World. A capable but hot-tempered commander, he works alongside inspector Modo Lagos through Modo's deteriorating campaign until Han Xiao destroys their command center.

Biography

The Flickering World

Roddick enters the Flickering World in command of Modo's newly assembled Expedition Fleet, with orders to protect the logistics resources needed for expansion. When an unidentified force ambushes the fleet, he quickly forms a defensive formation and initially holds his ground, but Han Xiao's virtual infiltration turns the logistics ships against their escorts and ruins the expedition's opening. Roddick later dispatches a Calamity Grade team to contest the Primal Chaos Mysterious Energy. He accepts the team's withdrawal when a Beyond Grade A struggle makes intervention suicidal, yet the accumulated losses leave him furious and damage the confidence originally placed in his command. Intelligent Plague and the Association

Roddick welcomes the distraction created by the Intelligent Plague because it weakens pressure on Modo, then directs operations in the war against the Black Star Army. Unable to identify any exploitable weakness in Han, he supports Lagos's plan involving Aesop, only for its failure to draw Ames and Han into Modo territory. Roddick refuses to flee because a Virtual Mechanic could track him, endures weeks of deliberate delay, and becomes exhausted and enraged while waiting for certain death. In Chapter 1176, Han's mechanical troops use spacetime-splicing technology to bypass the defenses and annihilate the command center, explicitly killing Roddick, Lagos, and the expedition's other leaders. Appearance and personality

Roddick is a tall man with a cold, tough-looking face and a habitually solemn expression. During the final siege, prolonged stress leaves his eyes bloodshot, his hair disordered, and his appearance severely exhausted. He is decisive, formal toward Modo's rulers, and talented at fleet command, but also proud, unbending, and quick to anger. His preference is to retaliate rather than retreat, though he can abandon an objective when continued intervention would merely waste elite lives. His last defiance mixes rage at Han with bitterness at having been abandoned by his own government. (Chapters 1011–1012, 1032, 1037, and 1175–1176)

Abilities and class

Roddick's demonstrated abilities are military rather than supernatural. The corpus does not identify him as a Super or assign him a combat class. He commands large fleet formations, responds quickly to ambushes, prioritizes logistics, coordinates elite operatives, evaluates political constraints, and recognizes the risks posed by Beyond Grade A combatants and Virtual Mechanics. • Modo Lagos: Lagos is the political inspector assigned beside Roddick. Their roles differ, but they jointly manage the expedition, commission covert plans, endure Modo's abandonment, and die together in the command center.
• Han Xiao: Han repeatedly disrupts Roddick's expedition through proxy fleets, virtual infiltration, player forces, and finally a direct attack. Roddick comes to see him as an enemy with no practical weakness.
• Ames: Ames joins Han's retaliation after the failed scheme involving Aesop. Roddick and Lagos expect her to help kill them, although Han ultimately performs the fatal attack.
