Garian is a rough-voiced old-era veteran who spends years collecting evidence about the hidden origin of the New Era. He recruits former comrades and later brings Han Xiao into the investigation.

Biography

Escape from Germinal and the Aquamarine War

Garian calls in a favor from Hannes and works with him and Vernina to kidnap a Maple official connected to their investigation. After faulty records contribute to the mission's failure, Garian hacks Maple's database, identifies the unexpected opponent as a Dark Net operative, and later recognizes Black Phantom from the evidence. He explains that years of intelligence gathering have revealed a larger secret and gives Han a deliberately limited mixture of confirmed and unconfirmed material as both an assignment and a test. Han's memory that the investigators died in his previous life does not establish their fate in the current timeline. (Chapters 184 and 189–192)
