Voidmaw

Voidmaw, the Voidmaw Grizzly King, is a Dao Lord and Eclipse's former husband. His race survives in the Void by destroying realms, yet his visit to the Midnight Inn presents a more intimate crisis: after an immense lifetime, he is exhausted, depressed, and seeking a form of rest that even Dao Lord power has not provided. Biography

The tea party and a request for rest

Voidmaw arrives at the Dao Lord tea party with a reputation strong enough to unsettle other guests, while Eclipse reacts with anger and embarrassment. He mingles with Ventura despite Ventura's interest in pieces taken from his ribs, displaying the casual tolerance of beings for whom catastrophic injury is not necessarily final. Beneath that rugged confidence, however, he asks the Innkeeper for a service that would let him completely relax. (Chapters 2052–2056, 2071)

His request reveals the limit behind his power. Voidmaw can survive cosmic violence and represent a race that consumes realms, but eternity has left him despondent rather than fulfilled. The Inn matters because it offers controlled experiences and relief instead of another contest of force. Eclipse, memory, and the universe's future

Voidmaw's history with Eclipse reaches back more than two hundred billion years. He once wanted them to start a family, but their marriage collapsed into a cycle in which Eclipse destroyed or deleted him and erased memories after he shared embarrassing truths. He later asks Lex to persuade Eclipse to let the universe mature, arguing that an excessively long starting era contributes to Dao Lords losing stability. The plea is personal and strategic: Voidmaw fears what endless delay does to beings like him, while knowing direct pressure on Eclipse is ineffective. Appearance and personality

Voidmaw is an enormous bear whose rugged, untamed presence is tempered by a sophisticated manner and smooth voice. Several guests find him striking, while Eclipse's discomfort immediately hints at their history. He is socially relaxed around extreme violence, frank about emotional exhaustion, and unexpectedly vulnerable when discussing eternity.
