Pel

Pel is a sentient treasure spirit born when a fragment of the dead dragon Pelvailin Ur Bahatna Gorgin's soul fused with the newborn spirit of a wooden ring. He inherits part of the Heavenly Immortal dragon's memories but develops as his own limited consciousness, advising Lex Williams while his vessel, intellect, and memory recover. He is distinct from Pel Jr., the separate soul born inside the dragon's body.

Biography

A new spirit in a failing vessel

Lex discovers Pel while examining a cracked wooden ring that is moving toward material it can absorb. The ring holds a severely wounded soul fragment fused with a newborn treasure spirit, and Pel himself is uncertain whether he is the dragon from his memories or something new. His immediate concern is survival: the spirit is too strong for the damaged vessel, so he asks for material that can reinforce the body sustaining him rather than demanding restoration to the dragon's corpse. (Chapters 783–785)

Pel agrees to a bond with Lex because the connection reduces the strain on his vessel and Lex promises suitable materials. Their relationship begins with mutual caution—Lex fears the return of a Heavenly Immortal personality, while Pel anxiously tries to prove useful—but repeated conversation turns Pel into a companion and adviser. His inability to form complex thoughts initially protects his new identity from being overwhelmed by inherited memories, even as those memories let him identify treasures, cultivation hazards, and fragments of the dragon's history. Damage, repair, and awakening

Pel warns Lex when divine energy begins altering his personality, but their next crisis nearly destroys him: exposure to the Void cracks the ring until Pel can no longer answer. He remains alive but dormant while automatically absorbing materials placed near the vessel. Lex later repairs the ring, and a special suspension hastens Pel's recovery; the restored vessel does not instantly restore consciousness or former power, making sleep and gradual healing necessary parts of his survival rather than a simple equipment repair. When Pel awakens, the stronger vessel gives him access to many additional memories that he must process. His excitement over Amber Chaos resin revives his role as a treasure expert, while the techniques and exercises he transmits help Lex refine Domination, form draconic Glyphs, and manufacture treasures. Recovery therefore changes Pel from a fragile source of scattered answers into an active teacher, although his knowledge remains limited to what the surviving fragment can retrieve. Moon's guardian and an incomplete past

Lex later has the ring upgraded so Pel can launch a powerful soul attack, after which Pel accompanies Moon as concealed protection. Moon's aura also nurtures souls, so the arrangement benefits both of them: he gains further memory recovery while providing a defensive capability Moon's enemies are unlikely to anticipate. By Chapter 1423 he remembers substantially more of Pelvailin's life, but still cannot recall what killed the original dragon. (Chapters 1255–1256 and 1423)

Pel remains available as an independent adviser after returning to Lex. When Ragnar seeks relief from a zombification curse, Pel is asked to analyze the condition through the ring and consult the inherited knowledge that Lex lacks. The scene also clarifies the essential identity boundary: Pel is the treasure spirit born from a portion of Pelvailin's soul, whereas Pel Jr. is the separate being inhabiting the dragon body. Neither Pel Jr.'s cultivation nor control of that body belongs to Pel. (Chapter 1545)

Appearance and personality

Pel has no demonstrated humanoid or draconic body of his own. His physical vessel is a smooth wooden band with fine workmanship and a fresh scent; it is badly cracked when discovered, later repaired, and can resize itself to fit another wearer. He communicates directly through spirit sense in a faint, squeaky voice that initially resembles a newborn learning to speak. (Chapters 783–785, 790, 898, and 1545)

He begins earnest, chipper, and mentally simple, with little of Pelvailin's former pride. Pel worries about failing to answer questions, delights in treasures, and mischievously enjoys the idea of disguising his leaking aura as an ordinary spirit treasure. Greater memory access makes him more knowledgeable without erasing that emotional continuity. Fear and pain still surround the missing memory of Pelvailin's death, and Pel's refusal or inability to force it remains a limit rather than evidence of deception. Abilities and cultivation

Treasure-spirit vessel and recovery

Pel is a fused soul-and-treasure spirit whose continued life depends on the wooden ring vessel. Early in his development, the spirit's strength exceeds what the cracked ring can carry, preventing the ring's original functions from operating. A bond supplies stability, while Pel can automatically absorb suitable materials to reinforce the vessel; wood-aligned or higher-quality materials work best. Until repaired, his aura leaks and an immortal-level impact can destabilize or break the ring. (Chapters 783–785, 788, and 790)

The Void demonstrates that danger by multiplying the cracks and forcing Pel dormant. Repair restores the vessel, not the intact Heavenly Immortal dragon, and Pel still needs a prolonged recovery before awakening. His current formal cultivation realm is never stated. The former Heavenly Immortal level belongs to the dragon life from which the soul fragment and memories derive and must not be treated as Pel freely possessing that power in his present state. Inherited memory and instruction

Pel can search inherited memories for information and transmit exercises, guides, and techniques directly through the bond. He identifies rare treasures, explains energy corruption, supplies young-dragon aura exercises and Glyphs, and offers treasure-manufacturing methods that Lex can adapt to a human body. These are instructional capabilities rather than Pel personally casting every technique; Lex must still understand, power, and perform what Pel shares. (Chapters 789–791, 879, 1008–1010, and 1035–1037)

Memory access grows as Pel and the ring heal, but it is selective and incomplete. Early vessel strain prevents complex thought and makes forced recall dangerous, while later recovery unlocks more of Pelvailin's knowledge without restoring the circumstances of his death. Pel can advise on subjects such as curses only to the extent those memories survive, and the narrative never establishes that he recovers the whole dragon's mind or identity. Soul attack

An upgrade to Pel's ring vessel gives him the ability to launch one powerful soul attack. Lex relies on that capability as hidden protection for Moon, making it Pel's clearest direct offensive function rather than another technique he merely teaches. No use of the attack is shown, and its target limit, range, and recovery time remain undefined, so its strength beyond being a single strong soul-focused defense is unconfirmed. Relationships

• Lex Williams: Lex stabilizes and repairs Pel's vessel, while Pel becomes his companion, teacher, and source of otherwise inaccessible knowledge. Their initial caution develops into cooperation without erasing Pel's independent sentience.
• Moon: Pel stays with Moon as a concealed soul defender, and her soul-nurturing aura helps his incomplete memories and consciousness recover further.
• Pel Jr.: Pel Jr. is a distinct sentient being born in Pelvailin's abandoned dragon body. Pel shares a source history with that body but neither inhabits nor controls Pel Jr.
• Ragnar: Ragnar recognizes Pelvailin's aura in the ring and becomes a subject for Pel's inherited knowledge when seeking a response to zombification.

Pel has no separate notable-item inventory. The wooden ring is his physical vessel and body, not property owned by the character, and it has no finalized item article.
